1 ASUS PC Diagnstics Guide Mtherbard self-diagnstics is a diagnstic tl designed t test the fllwing n yur cmputer: System Infrmatin. System Devices. System Stress. The System Infrmatin Cllectin detects the essential perating system and devices infrmatin. The System Devices Test detects and reprts any errrs n the physical devices such as the current system status and perfrmance. The System Stress Test checks the system's stability and reprts any errrs n the main cmpnents such as the CPU, memry, and display adapter. Installatin Instructin Right-click the dwnlad file and chse Extract n the shrtcut menu. Click Setup.exe t install ASUS PC Diagnstics Click "yes" fr windws 7 ntificatins. Fllw "ASUS PC diagnstic Setup Wizard" t finish the installatin.

5 ASUS PC Diagnstics tests and displays infrmatin n the physical devices and perating system n yur cmputer. These infrmatin include: Operating system infrmatin This infrmatin includes such as Name, Versin, and Installatin date. CPU infrmatin This infrmatin includes such as Manufacturer, Mdel, CPU Clck Speed, Cache, CPU functinal features, Driver versin, and Current CPU usage. Memry Infrmatin This infrmatin includes such as Manufacturer, Mdel, Memry Clck, Memry size, Memry Data Width, and Current memry usage. Nte: Sme memry infrmatin may nt display depending n the installed memry mdule. Netwrk Adapter infrmatin This infrmatin includes such as Manufacturer, Mdel, Max. Bandwidth, Netwrk resurces, Driver versin, TCP/IP settings, and Current netwrk status. Mtherbard infrmatin This infrmatin includes such as Manufacturer, Mdel, BIOS versin, BIOS release date, Onbard prts, and Onbard slts. Display Adapter infrmatin This infrmatin includes such as Manufacturer, Mdel, Vide memry size, VBIOS versin, Current display reslutin, Current Clr Depth, Current Refresh Rate, Desktp resurces, and Driver versin. Mnitr infrmatin This infrmatin includes such as Manufacturer, Mdel, Manufacture date, Max. visible display size, EDID versin, DPMS features, and Driver versin. Strage infrmatin

6 This infrmatin includes such as Name, Serial number, Capacity, Firmware versin, Interface type, Supprted features (DMA, LBA), and ATA/ATAPI versin. Audi Device infrmatin This infrmatin includes such as Manufacturer, Mdel, Audi resurces, and Driver versin Cntrller infrmatin This infrmatin includes such as Name, Resurces, and Driver versin. COM Prt infrmatin This infrmatin includes such as Prvider type, Max. Baud Rate, Resurces, and Driver versin. Parallel Prt infrmatin This infrmatin includes such as Name, Resurces, and Driver versin. Battery infrmatin This infrmatin includes such as Battery name, Type, Capacity, Current status, Resurces, and Driver versin. Nte: The actual infrmatin displayed varies with the system settings. 7 System Devices Test ASUS PC Diagnstics checks the physical devices installed n yur cmputer, which can be dne either thrugh Aut r Interactive test. Aut Test Aut Test autmatically checks and creates reprts n any errrs n the system cmpnents. Click an Aut Test belw t get mre details. CPU COM Prt Parallel Prt 1394 Cntrller PCI(E) RTC USB CMOS Interactive Test Interactive Test enables yu t run a diagnstic test n the system cmpnents using a user-friendly interface. Click an Interactive Test belw t get mre details. Memry

8 Netwrk Adapter Audi Device Keybard/Muse Hard Disk Drive Mnitr Display Adapter Camera System Devices Test Main Screen (Click the items t get mre infrmatin.) CPU Nte: This is an aut test. CPU Test items: CPU Speed Test Calculates the actual CPU speed/frequency. MMX Test

9 Detects if the current CPU supprts MMX technlgy and, when it des, starts testing the MMX instructins. SSE Test Detects if the current CPU supprts SSE technlgy and, when it des, starts testing the SSE instructins. SSE2 Test Detects if the current CPU supprts SSE2 technlgy and, when it des, starts testing the SSE2 instructins. Register Test Uses a set f parameters t test the stability f the CPU internal registers. FPU (Flating-Pint Unit) Test Tests the CPU FPU instructins. Integer Arithmetic Test Tests the CPU Integer Arithmetic instructins. Memry Nte: This is an interactive test. Memry Test items: Memry Read/Write Speed Test Tests the memry read/write speed under varius cnditins such as when CPU cache is enabled/disabled r single/multi-threading (tw r mre cncurrent running tasks). Nte: If the memry size that yu specicfied is abve the system's threshld level, the tester autmatically adjusts the memry values. 10 Memry Stability Test Uses a set f parameters t test the stability f the memry mdules. Address test, walking nes Address test, wn address Mving inversins, nes&zers Mving inversins, 8 bits pattern Mving inversins, randm pattern Blck mve, 64 bits mves Mving inversins, 32 bits pattern Randm number sequence Mdul 20, nes&zers When the memry stability test is cmpleted, the test reprt is autmatically created. Nte: If the memry size that yu specicfied is abve the system's threshld level, the tester autmatically adjusts the memry values. Memry Stability Test Submenu (Click the items t get mre infrmatin.)

11 Hard Disk Drive Nte: This is an interactive test. Hard Disk Drive Test items: SMART Status Test Tests and displays the hard disk drive's SMART (Self-Mnitring Analysis and Reprting Technlgy) status, which allws yu t check the health status f the hard disk drive. Nte: The test nly runs when the target hard disk drive supprts the SMART technlgy. Nte: If the hard disk drive is in RAID mde, it's SMART status can nt be gt. 13 Display Adapter Nte: This is an interactive test. Nte: Befre starting the vide test, ensure that the hardware acceleratin is set t a level that this vide test supprts. See the figure belw.

14 Vide Test items: Texture Mapping Test Tests if the display adapter supprts the texture mapping functin. Fixed Transfrmatin and Lighting Test Nte: This test nly runs when yu have installed DirectX 9.0 r later versin n yur cmputer. This test, putting a large number f calculatins n the GPU, is t test the strength f the GPU. This test determines the GPU's capacity t handle a heavy lad. AVI File Playback Test When yu run this test, a vide clip with backgrund music appears. If yu d nt see the vide r hear the music, the test failed. Nte: The Texture Mapping Test and the Fixed Transfrmatin and Lighting Test will be autmatically cmpleted. After the AVI File Playback Test, yu have t click Passed/Failed t send the results t the sub tester. AVI File Playback Test Screen (Click the items t get mre infrmatin.)

15 Netwrk Adapter Nte: This is an interactive test. Netwrk Adapter Test items: TCP/IP Test Tests if the TCP/IP prtcl is prperly cnfigured. Netwrk Cnnectin Status Test Nte: This test launches the ASUS website thrugh the PING cmmand. These three reasns may cause the test t fail: (1) The current netwrk cnnectin is abnrmal. (2) The ASUS fficial website is nt accessible. (3) The firewall blcked the PING cmmand. Nte: Yu can cnfigure the prxy settings during the netwrk test. If yu are asked t cnfigure the prxy settings t access the ASUS fficial website, cnfigure the settings in this area. If nt, ignre the prxy settings and start the test directly.

16 Netwrk Adapter Test Screen (Click the items t get mre infrmatin.) Mnitr Nte: This is an interactive test. Mnitr Test items: Slid Clr Test Sets the screen t slid red, green, blue, black, and white t test if there are dead pixels (bright r dark spts). Patterns Test, including: Cntrast Test Gray Scale Test Clr Test Gemetry Test Respiratry Effects Test

17 Nte: The Respiratry Effects Test checks the CRT mnitr's Respiratry Effects. Nte: During the abve tests, yu have t click Pass/Fail t send the result t the sub tester. Mnitr Test Screen (Click the items t get mre infrmatin.) Audi Device Nte: This is an interactive test. Audi Device Test items: Recrding Test After yu start the test, click Recrd t start recrding, and then click Play t play the recrding. Based n the recrding quality, click Pass/Fail t send the result t the sub tester.

18 Nte: Befre yu start recrding, ensure that yur cmputer's micrphne is turned n. Recrding Test Screen (Click the items t get mre infrmatin.) Multimedia Playback Test After yu start the test, click Open buttn t select a music file, and then click Play buttn t play the music. 19 Keybard/Muse Nte: This is an interactive test. Keybard/Muse Test items: Keybard Test After yu start the test, press a key n the keybard. Ensure that the key shwn n the test screen is the same as the ne yu pressed. Nte: This test nly starts when yu use a 105-key standard keybard. If sme f the keys n yur keybard cannt be fund n the test screen, d nt test the keys. Keybard Test Screen (Click the items t get mre infrmatin.)

20 Muse Test The Muse Test includes the clicking, scrlling and dragging tests. Muse Test Screen (Click the items t get mre infrmatin.)

21 COM Prt Nte: This is an aut test. Serial Prt Test items: Lpback Test After setting the Serial Prt t the Lpback mde, tests the stability f the Serial Prt with different baudrates including bps,57600 bps,38400 bps,19200 bps,9600 bps,4800 bps,2400 bps, and 1200 bps. Nte: The actual max. test baudrates vary with devices. Cntrl Pins Test Tests if the signal status f pins f the Serial Prt are crrect. Nte: If the current Serial Prt is in use, it can nt be tested. Please remve the device frm the Serial Prt befre testing.

22 Parallel Prt Nte: This is an aut test. Parallel Prt Test items: TFIFO Mde Test After setting the Parallel Prt t the TFIFO mde, tests the stability f its data transmissin. Nte: This test is nly fr a Parallel Prt supprting the ECP mde. If the current Parallel Prt des nt supprt the ECP mde, the result f this test shws Nt Tested. Nte: If the current Parallel Prt is in use, it can nt be tested. Please remve the device frm the Parallel Prt befre testing. CMOS Nte: This is an aut test. CMOS Test items: CMOS Mde Test Tests if the CMOS space is valid thrugh the read/write parameters 0x55/0xAA. RTC Nte: This is an aut test. RTC Test items: RTC Accuracy Test Tests whether the RTC is accurate. USB

23 USB Test items: Lists the USB Hst Cntrllers and the USB devices. PCI(E) Nte: This is an aut test. PCI(E) Test items: Detects the cnnectin status, the cnnectin bandwidth, and the manufacturer ID, device ID, device type and ther infrmatin f the PCI / PCIE slts. Camera Nte: This is an interactive test. Camera Test Items: Tests if the camera is wrking prperly. After yu start the test, camera test subrutine will attempt t initiate a cnnectin t the system's camera device, and capture an image which will be shwn in the test dialg bx. At this pint, cmpare and determine if the actual scene is cnsistent with the image. Click Passed/Failed t send the result t the sub tester. 24 System Stress Test The ASUS PC Diagnstics checks the system stability using specially designed stress testers t test the main cmpnents such as the CPU, memry, and display adapter. The System Stress Test includes: CPU Stress Test Memry Stress Test Display Adapter Stress Test System Stress Test Main Screen (Click the items t get mre infrmatin.) CPU Stress Test CPU Stress Test items: Pi Calculatin Test

25 Runs the high-precisin Pi calculatin n each lgical CPU t test the stability f the CPU under heavy lad. If the test runs nrmally in the specified perid r befre yu stp it, the test is successful. Memry Stress Test Memry Stress Test items: Tests the stability f the memry mdules. Uses a variety f parameters and appraches t test the stability f the memry mdules. T access mre memry fr assessing the current physical memry lad capacity, enable the Lck Pages in the memry settings, if the current accunt plicy allws it. Refer t the perating system's Help file fr mre details n enabling the Lck Pages. Display Adapter Stress Test Display Adapter Stress Test items: Texture Mapping Test 3D Rendering Test During the specified time, the abve tw tests run alternatively t assess the display adapter lad ability. Test Results Analysis Fr each devices test (such as the System Devices Test / System Stress Test), the ASUS PC Diagnstics shws the crrespnding test results as Passed, Failed, r Value. Passed Indicates that the test is successfully cmpleted with n errrs. Failed The test cannt be cmpleted because ne r mre errrs are detected during the test.

26 Value Fr such a test as the Memry Read/Write Speed Test with a value as the result, there will be a test result value which indicates a certain perfrmance characteristics f the device. Frce Quit This test is stpped by the user. Internal Errr One r mre nn-device-related errrs (such as insufficient system memry) are detected when testing. Nt Tested This item is nt tested. Incrrect cnnectin The device is nt prperly cnnected. Send t ASUS When ASUS PC Diagnstics detects prblems with yur system, yu can use this functin t send a reprt t ASUS.
