How You Can Help We re looking for someone to manage one of our Scout Active Support Units. Active Support is a way that adults can provide support to Scottish Scouting in a flexible way. It can assist in a whole range of ways that support Scouting at National Level. Scottish Headquarters has four Units based at Scottish Headquarters and our three activity centres at Fordell Firs, Lochgoilhead and Meggernie. Up For The Challenge? 3 ROLE DESCRIPTION Scottish Headquarters Scout Active Support Manager Purpose of the role The Scottish Headquarters Scout Active Support Manager is a key role in ensuring that the Scout Active Support Unit fulfils its purpose and service agreement. The role also requires the right individual to: Assist the development of Scouting in Scotland Provide proactive leadership to the members of the Scout Active Support Unit. Promote and maintain the policies of The Scout Association Positively manage and support adults, defining roles and responsibilities Actively promote the implementation of policies agreed by the Scottish Board and its Committees Attend conferences and events as appropriate Represent The Scout Association and the Chief Commissioner at Scout and Public events Responsible to Main Contacts Chief Commissioner, Depute Chief Commissioner (Region Support), Depute Chief Commissioner (Programme), Depute Chief Commissioner (Youth Involvement), Activity Centre Managers/Wardens, Other Scottish Headquarters Commissioners, Chief Executive, National Activity Centres Committee, Business Committee, Programme and Region Support Committee, Scottish Headquarters Programme and Development Executive, Scottish Headquarters Programme and Development Officers, relevant UK Headquarters senior volunteers and staff, other statutory and voluntary youth organisations. Appointment requirements Understand and accept The Scout Association s policies Satisfactory PVG clearance Completion of a Wood Badge for the role within 3-years of appointment, including modules detailed in the Adult Training Scheme, as agreed with a Training Adviser Scottish Headquarters Commissioner (Scout Active Support) Responsible for Scout Active Support Coordinators Scout Active Support Members Scouts Scotland is a Registered Scottish Charity No. SC017511

4 Main Responsibilities Promote Scout Active Support within area of responsibility. Create an annual service agreement in partnership with Scottish Headquarters. Ensure that the Scout Active Support Unit is meeting the needs of the area that it supports. Build relationships with appropriate external bodies Core Tasks Work in partnership with the Scottish Headquarters Commissioner (Scout Active Support) to: Review the service agreement annually against what has been achieved along with members of the Unit to ensure that it meets the needs of the body that it supports. Provide practical support and assistance to managers/wardens as required in managing the Scout Active Support provision as required. Maintain effective communication between the Scout Active Support Unit and those it supports. Appoint Scout Active Support Coordinators as required with the approval of the SHQ Commissioner (Scout Active Support) Agree responsibilities with the Scout Active Support Coordinators, with reference to the role description. Ensure that Coordinators effectively provide required support. Ensure that all Scout Active Support Members are vetted in accordance with POR and have validated Module 1 of the Adult Training Scheme. Ensure that the Scout Active Support operates in line with POR. Raise awareness and promote Scout Active Support as a membership option. Resolve disputes between members of the Scout Active Support Unit Approve activities of the Scout Active Support Unit in accordance with POR. Become the recognised point of contact for members of the Scottish Headquarters Team wishing to discuss or seeking guidance in area of responsibility. Be included in the planning stages of larger events to ensure that support can be provided as necessary. Carry out Self review and work with Training Adviser to complete Wood Badge. Promote the opportunities of Scout Active Support to external bodies outside Scouting. Work in partnership with the appropriate line managers to: Hold regular meetings to discuss current issues and share good practice Work closely with Scottish Headquarters Commissioner (Adult Training) in the provision of training initiatives and development of adults Work closely with Scottish Headquarters Communications Team to ensure appropriate contact with adults across Scotland Liaise with other Scottish Headquarters Commissioners and Advisers as appropriate Advise business committee in regard to financial requirements. Develop and maintain good working relationships and seek contacts both internal and external to Scouting within Scotland Show personal commitment to The Scout Association s aims and training

5 Person Specification Essential Knowledge and creativity in regard to ways to deliver a work plan Understanding of the purpose and method for the provision of Scout Active Support The ability to communicate (verbal and nonverbal) and relate to a range of people and be able to effectively chair meetings High level of interpersonal skills Ability to lead, motivate and enthuse others Ability to set measurable targets and deliver as promised Able to demonstrate initiative and independent working Approachable at all reasonable times Sufficient time for the role including weekend and mid-week commitments Desirable Experience as an adult member in Scouting Management and leadership experience in Scouting
