2 PROLOGUE The University of Calicut, established in 1968, the second University to be set up in Kerala was opened as a part of the affirmative policy of the government in response to the challenges offered by the geo-political nature of Malabar. It aimed to bring higher education within the purview of one and all. At present the University has 36 post graduate departments and 355 affiliated colleges and is the largest residential cum affiliating University in Kerala. It has slowly but steadily branched out and now has extension centres at Thrissur, Lakshadweep and Vatakara. SCHOOL OF DISTANCE EDUCATION (SDE) The School of Distance Education, one of the major departments of the University was established in Now it is a major education provider in Kerala as well as in other parts of India and also in gulf countries with an annual enrollment of more than 60,000 students. 4 SECTION 1 DETAILS OF FEE TO BE REMITTED BY PG STUDENTS ALONG WITH THE APPLICATION AT THE TIME OF ADMISSION TO FIRST YEAR OF THE COURSE 1. Application fee - 200/- 2. Admission fee - 250/- 3. Course fee for One year :- a) M.Com, MA (Arabic, Malayalam, History) b) MA (Eng., Hindi, Eco., Pol., Sociology, M.Sc (Maths) c) MA (Philosophy, Tamil, Sanskrit) ( 500 for II year) 4. Matriculation Fee - 100/- (for those who are enrolling in Calicut University for the 1 st time.) 5. Re-matriculation fee - 150/- (for those who have migrated from Calicut University to other Universities. 6. Recognition fee - 100/- (for those who have qualified from Boards/Universities of other states). 7. Fine - 100/- as Service charge from defaulting candidates except for name and date of birth correction. MODE OF REMITTANCE OF FEES (Fee should be remitted only through e-payment mode) 1. Jana Sevana Kendrams/Akshayas. 2. State Bank of Travancore (via e-chalan) and SBT Internet Banking. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OEC are eligible for concession from payment of tuition fees, only if they are not employed in Govt./Quasi Govt./Public Sector services. They should apply for fee concession with relevant document in the prescribed application which will be supplied to them later. No fee concession for OBC students. Blind candidates are also eligible for fee concession on production of Medical Certificate. MARK RELAXATION TO TEACHERS AND GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES (M.A/M.Com only) Teachers with not less than 3 years experience in aided school or college are eligible for exemption from the requirement of minimum marks, on production of an experience certificate countersigned by AEO/DEO along with the admission application. All Government/ University employees are also exempted from the requirement of minimum marks for admission, on production of sufficient proof (U. O. No. GAI/B2/7889/2000 dated , U.O. No. SDE/D3/7889/2001 dated ).

5 SECTION - 2 ADMISSION PROCEDURE FOR PG COURSES * Application is to be submitted online. Candidates are directed to Read carefully the Prospectus for details of Courses and Fee before filling the applications. a) Remit the required application fee/admission fee/course fees /Matriculation fee (if applicable)/ Recognition fee (if applicable) and Re -matriculation fee using (if applicable) one of the ways mentioned in MODE OF REMITTANCE OF FEES. b) Log on to with chalan receipt and a recent passport size photograph for uploading in JPEG format. c) Click the link SDE-Regular PG Admission 2015 to get the online application. d) Fill in all the columns and submit. e) Take the printout of the application. f) Attest the photo in the printout copy with a Gazetted Officer and forward to the Director, School of Distance Education, University of Calicut, Calicut University PO, Pin with following documents. i. Original chalan receipt for the required fee. ii. Original Transfer Certificate. iii. Original and self attested copies of qualifying certificates and Mark lists. iv. Community/Income/Nativity Certificate (whi chever is applicable) in the case of SC/ST/OBC/OEC candidates. BPL candidates to produce the necessary certificate from the concerned authority. v. Certificate from the authority for relaxation in minimum marks in case of teachers, Govt. employees, University employees etc. vi. Attested copy of the relevant page of SSLC or equivalent exam as proof of Date of Birth. vii. Self addressed stamped envelope ( 32/-) of size (30x25 cms.) to return the original certificates if not availing the facility of spot admission. viii. 6 SECTION 3 ACADEMIC INDUCTION AND CONTACT CLASSES. An identity card, with the enrolment number can be downloaded by the student who gets registered for the programme. This card should be kept till the completion of the course. The students should bring the identity card whenever they come to the S.D.E. or attend the contact class. The Study Materials will be made available to the students. The card should be surrendered to get Transfer Certificate on completion or discontinuance of the course. Contact Classes will be through various study centres given in Table 2. The time table of contact classes will be sent to the students well in advance. The classes will be taken by teachers of the colleges affiliated to the Universities in Kerala and by experts in the concerned field. A candidate can opt for any one of the centres given in the Table 2. But if sufficient number of candidates are not available for a course, the nearest contact class centre will be allotted.
