S320 Getting Started Guide 8

CALIENT recommends that two people install the CALIENT S320 Photonic Switch into a rack, one person to support the unit and a second person to secure the rack screws. CALIENT strongly recommends use of a shelf while mounting the CALIENT S320 in a rack. To install the CALIENT S320 Photonic Switch into a rack, first attach a shelf or support bracket set to the rack, one screw-hole below the desired location of the S320 Switch. This shelf will support the S320 while it is bolted to the rack. Lift the S320 onto the supporting device, and bolt it to the rack. Failure to follow safety rules and instructions in this manual may result in bodily injury. 3.2 Connecting communication interfaces Connecting the Craft Serial Cable Use a craft serial cable to connect to the craft interface on the CALIENT S320 Photonic Switch. The craft serial cable connection is used to retrieve (or set) the S320 IP address and perform TL1 operations. Connect one end of the serial cable to the serial connector on the front of the S320, as shown in Figure 2. Connect the other end of the cable to the serial connector on the host PC. The supplied USB to RS232 serial cable appears as a UT232R in the Windows Control Panel device manager. If a driver for this cable is not available, it can be downloaded online at To reset the IP address using the serial connection, refer to section S320 Getting Started Guide 9

Figure 2: The front panel of the S320 Switch shows the location of the Craft and LAN ports Connecting Ethernet The CALIENT S320 Photonic Switch has two Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) RJ-45 jacks labeled NMS LAN A and B on the front of the S320 as shown above. The Ethernet connection is used to control the CALIENT S320 using TL1 via a Telnet session, or using the browserbased graphical user interface (GUI). Use shielded Ethernet cables with the shields grounded at both ends. The S-series switch is approved for installation in a common bonded network (CBN). 3.3 Power connections The power module for the CALIENT S320 Photonic Switch is an -48 VDC terminal strip. Contact CALIENT for more information if required. S320 Getting Started Guide 10

3.5 Booting Up The next task in the installation procedure involves applying power to the CALIENT S320 Photonic Switch and booting the S320 Switch software Applying Electrical Power Apply electrical power to the CALIENT S320 Photonic Switch. The system will begin its boot process, which will take 3-4 minutes. The operational status LED indicators on the front panel provide status information as described in Table 2. Indicator Color Indicates A PWR, B PWR Green Power is applied MDB Green Operational CRIT, MAJ, MIN Red One or more alarms exists CP A, CP B Green System has passed startup diagnostics and is operating Table 1: The CALIENT S320 Photonic Switch FSU LED indicators If power is applied to the Power Source A input but not the Power Source B input (or vice versa), the CALIENT S320 Photonic Switch will boot up and function, but the B PWR LED will not be illuminated and a major alarm will be generated and communicated to the user via the S320 management interfaces. Please refer to the CALIENT S320 Alarm Reference Guide for a detailed description of S320 alarm behavior Resetting system network defaults It may be necessary to change some of the network default settings on the system before logging into the CALIENT S320 Photonic Switch for the first time. CALIENT provides a script to access and change these default settings as needed. The system settings that can be changed include the following: Host name, IP, Netmask, and Gateway addresses, DNS servers NTP server Time Zone There are two IP interfaces eth0, eth2 and each of them has its own identity. 14

3.5.3 Logging In The switch supports two configurable Ethernet ports (Eth0 and Eth2) and one port that is used for internal communication between two control processors (Eth1). The default IP addresses for these ports are: Eth0 : Eth2 : Unassigned CALIENT requires that the IP address of Eth1 must not be changed at any time. This interface is used for internal communication between two control processors. To access the CALIENT S320 Photonic Switch, please use the default username (there is no password): Username: root After the initial installation, the username and password can be changed at the user s discretion. If the default password is changed, please keep a record of the new password. If the user-changed password is lost or forgotten, it can only be reset by disrupting existing active connections and traffic. Please contact CALIENT Customer Service if you lose or forget your password. If the IP address has been changed from the default or is otherwise unknown, it can be retrieved using the serial interface. To retrieve the current IP address, connect a serial cable to the serial port on the CALIENT S320 Photonic Switch. Once connected and logged in, enter gxc-config-network --show to determine the IP address of the switch. Alternatively, use the TL1 Agent through the console or a PC, using a standard terminal emulation program such as Putty. Please use the terminal emulation settings listed in Connecting Using the Serial Port. The default TL1 username and password is: 15

Username: admin Password: pxc*** At the TL1 prompt, use the ACT-USER command to log in. The following example uses the default username and password: agent>actuser::admin:::pxc*** agent>rtrv-ip Once the IP address is known, the user must configure the client IP network interface to be on the same subnet as the CALIENT S320 Photonic Switch. Then, the user can log into the GUI or telnet to the TL1 agent using the S320 s management interface Mapping of the interfaces in the hardware is as explained below: eth0 interface B on front panel eth2 interface A on front panel Both interfaces are highlighted in the Figure 6 below. Figure 6 Part of the front panel of the S320 Switch highlighting the LAN ports. 16

Below is the complete block diagram explaining the mapping. Figure 7: Ethernet Interfaces Block diagram 17

3.5.4 Connecting Using the Serial Port Unlike the Telnet connection, the TL1 service over the serial port is always enabled. Connect a serial cable to the serial port on the front panel of the CALIENT S320 Photonic Switch. Once connected, interact with the TL1 Agent through the console or a PC, using a standard terminal emulation program. Table 2 lists the terminal emulation settings. The supplied USB to RS232 serial cable appears as a UT232R in the Windows Control Panel device manager. If a driver for this cable is not available, it can be downloaded online at Item Value Data rate baud Bits 8 Parity None Stop bit 1 Set local echo Off Flow control None Terminal setting VT100 or ASCII Echo Off Line wrap Auto Table 2: Terminal emulation settings for the S Network Configuration Scripts The network configuration scripts (bonding and non-bonding) are available to modify the system settings by connecting to the serial interface, logging in as root and entering: Target# gxc-config-network It is necessary to restart services after making any network configuration changes.
