ROME WELCOMES BIKERS Infos:

BIKERS LOVE AND RESPECT ROME Rome s history and culture as a city go back thousands of years. Legend has it that two brothers, Romulus and Remus, founded Rome in 753 BCE. The two brothers were suckled by the she-wolf that became, like the Colosseum, an iconic symbol of the capital. What made Rome great, however, was not the myths and legends, but its history. Rome first stood at the heart of the Roman Republic and then became the political and cultural fulcrum of an Empire. Rome s role as the capital of Christendom then began in the fourth century. In any case, alongside its ancient history, Rome s cultural history has stratified over the centuries. The most striking testimony to this stratification can be seen in Rome s stunning squares such as Campo de Fiori, with, in the middle, the statue of Giordano Bruno; piazza Navona, with the splendid Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (or four rivers fountain) by Bernini; piazza di Spagna, with its famous Spanish steps; piazza del Popolo, with its striking twin churches; piazza Venezia, overshadowed by the imposing Vittoriano monument, flanked by the Campidoglio hill; largo di Torre Argentina, hosting the remains of ancient Roman temples; and piazza Trilussa and piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere in the old historic district of Trastevere. Thanks to the presence of such extraordinarily beautiful locations, Rome s old city centre together with the extraterritorial properties of the Holy See in the old city itself, and the nearby Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls is one of the 47 Italian sites included in the Unesco World Heritage List. Rome s old city centre is also the largest to be declared part of the World Heritage. Rome, her history and civilization, and the city s unceasing ability to fascinate the visitors who have flocked here in various eras, deserve the love, care and respect of all newcomers and visitors now as throughout the centuries of the past.

BIKERS TEN COMMANDMENTS FOR A GREAT STAY IN ROME! 1 Harley Villages The 110th anniversary celebrations for Harley Davidson are to be organised in two dedicated, specially equipped areas: - one is located in the vicinity of the Porto turistico di Ostia (the marina in Ostia). Rome s current marine, or pleasure boating harbour, is located along the seafront street, lungomare Duca degli Abruzzi, in an area neighbouring the mouth of the Tiber. Ostia, a district of the city of Rome, with a seafront street featuring marvellous plaza areas, is a popular resort among Romans, who love to walk here on Sundays in the spring. Close by, we find Ostia Antica, a Renaissance period settlement neighbouring Roman ruins and the Tiber. Visits to the old township and to the fortification, Rocca di Giulio II and the Chiesa di Santa Aurea church are well worth the effort. An absolute must, of course, is the scavi di Ostia Antica an archaeological park. - the other area is in the vicinity of the Foro Italico. The Foro Italico was inaugurated in 1932 as the Foro Mussolini. The area is made up of a huge sporting facility at the foot of the hill, Monte Mario. The project was devised and created by Enrico Del Debbio between 1927 and It was completed after the war, between 1956 and The main entrance to the Foro, or forum, lies to the southeast, axially aligned with the Duca d'aosta bridge. The area includes a broad avenue, adorned entirely with black and white mosaic pieces, or tesserae. It also features an enormous Carrara marble obelisk, rising 17.5 metres above its base, known as the Stele Mussolini (an upright slab monument, or stele, erected in honour of Mussolini). The monumental complex includes statues donated by the various provinces of Italy (and hence, the work of various artists), representing a variety of sports. Close by, we find the Olympic stadium and Palazzo della Farnesina (Palazzo della Farnesina has been the seat of Italy s Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1959). 2 Historic city centre off limits Within the old city centre of Rome, you will find signposted limited traffic zones, or Zone a Traffico Limitato (ZTL). Where access is possible to these areas, notices signposted (also by means of backlit displays) indicate that restrictions apply to traffic entering these areas. To prevent traffic jams in the city centre, over the day 13, 14 and 15 of June, a Mayor s order prohibits access to ZTL areas on the part from 9 pm to 3 am with motorcycles of a displacement of more than 800 cc. The area subject to restrictions is controlled by TV cameras capable of recording the number plates of unauthorised vehicless. For further information see or

These are located in various parts of the city centre and at the Harley villages, at the marina in Ostia (Porto turistico di Ostia) and at the Foro Italico. You can purchase the ROMA PASS tourist card at the indicated information points. With the tourist card you can, for 3 days, use all means of public transport (busses, underground, etc.) and visit two of the city s museums free of charge (e.g. the Colosseum and the Capitoline Museums). For further information on events, shows etc., call Please also check out turismoroma.it 7 Public Transport In Rome, public transport is managed by Atac, which runs an extensive network of bus, trolleybus and tram routes as well as two underground railway lines. Major rail links (Roma-Lido, Roma-Giardinetti and Roma-Viterbo) are also available. Between Monday and Thursday, as well as on Sunday, the A and B/B1 underground lines run from 5:30 to 23:30 (these are the times of the first and last departures from the terminus stops, respectively). On Friday and Saturday, the underground lines run from 5:30 to 1:30 (these are the times of the first and last departures from the terminus stops, respectively). The Roma Termini-Giardinetti rail link runs from 05:33 to 21:30 (05:30 to 22:10 on holidays). The Roma-Viterbo rail link runs from to 22:40 (05:50 to 22:10 on holidays).

8 Advice for clients in bars and for dining out Restaurants, bars and catering establishments etc. must publicly display their prices. Counter service is cheaper than table service. There are no cover charges. You can, if you prefer, order just one course. You are not obliged to consume a full meal. If deep-frozen foods are served, this must be indicated on the menu (often with an asterisk). Some wines can be very expensive. To avoid unpleasant surprises, ask for the wine menu to check the prices. Always ask for a receipt or a receipt slip, and make sure the prices correspond to those listed. 9 Advice and suggestions for shoppers The prices of articles on offer in shop windows must always be displayed. The prices of articles must always be displayed on all goods, whether small souvenirs, clothing or other products. The price displayed is inclusive of taxes. Always ask for a receipt for all purchases, also because the receipt enables you to, in the event, return and exchange goods purchased. BIKERS TEN COMMANDMENTS FOR A GREAT STAY IN ROME! Please remember that it is strictly prohibited to purchase fake and/or counterfeited goods from street vendors; fines for offenders may be as high as 1, Other useful advice Unfortunately, in Rome, as in other large cities, we must watch out for pickpockets who may take advantage of crowded streets etc. Rome is made up of charming side streets and alleys which are as fascinating as they are busy and crowded. We recommend public transport for all who wish to visit the city centre. To fully experience Rome, you must respect the essence of this city. If you intend to visit churches or other locations of special religious significance, please remember to dress appropriately beforehand (access to the St. Peter s Basilica, for example, is limited only to people who are dressed appropriately. Visitors wearing flip-flops, or thong footwear, bermuda shorts and T-shirts, for example, will not be admitted). You must not consume packed lunches, sandwiches or drinks in the vicinity of monuments, fountains or on steps, or in other locations of particular artistic or symbolic interest. PLEASE COME BACK, IT S SO EASY TO FALL IN LOVE WITH ROME! Everyone wants to pay another visit. Climate-wise, the best times of the year are spring and autumn. However, Rome is well worth a visit during the winter months too. There are fewer queues and the general pace of life is less hectic. On booking accommodation in the centre of town or in the suburbs, you will also find you have more choice. Solutions are available which will suit all pockets. Find out more about what Rome can offer you! Check out events and price deals that will surely tempt you back again! Click
