3 DATA DIGEST Dear Colleagues, We are pleased to present the seventh edition of the Data Digest. The main purpose of the Purdue University Calumet Data Digest is to provide quick and easy access to a wide variety of quantitative information on the major dimensions of the university: students, faculty and staff, alumni, and finances. An additional purpose served by the Data Digest is to furnish official numbers. It is possible to measure many of the attributes of the University in a variety of ways, depending on definitions applied. Purdue Calumet's official numbers and definitions are often an important point of reference, which we hope you will consider when making comparisons or tabulations of your own. The compilation of the Digest has been useful in organizing data collection and management at the university level, and will help in guiding data collection efforts at the academic units level. Student enrollment, alumni, and workforce data is provided through Fall 2014, student degrees though the academic year, and financial data through the 2014 fiscal year (ending June 30, 2014). We hope this evolving publication is a valuable resource for official information about Purdue University Calumet. As always, we invite your comments and welcome suggestions on how future editions of the Data Digest can be improved. Acknowledgements: The preparation of this publication would not have been possible without the contributions of many individuals across the campus community. We give a special thanks to the Marketing and Communication staff for their help in the production of this document and website. Gillian Leonard Director of Institutional Research and Assessment

7 Chancellors at Purdue University Calumet Millard Gyte, Director Gyte, as the first director of Purdue University's "Calumet Extension", single-handedly took on the difficult task of providing the school with its foundation. Securing a home for Calumet, starting a university faculty, and initiating a campus newspaper are among his many notable accomplishments. "Mr. PUC" passed away in July Carl Elliott, Director and Dean; Chancellor Elliott served Calumet for fifteen years: first as director, later as a director and dean, and finally, as its first chancellor in 1974; the year Calumet was autonomized. He contributed greatly to Calumet's growth during the years that nationwide unrest was experienced throughout many universities Richard J. Combs, Chancellor Combs is credited with guiding Calumet from its adolescent stage well into maturity. Under his supervision, enrollment increased to over eight thousand students, the faculty nearly doubled, infrastructure was enhanced, and the activities offered to students were extended and diversified. It was he who persuaded the trustees to rename the campus Purdue University, Calumet. Combs stayed with Calumet until his retirement in James Yackel, Chancellor Yackel's leadership was said to have prepared Calumet in such a way that it would make an invaluable contribution to how Northwest Indiana encountered the challenges of the 21st century. During his 10 year presence as chancellor, enrollment witnessed a ten percent surge, student scholarship dollars were increased, and new partnerships with industry and businesses were formed; he retired in July, Howard S. Cohen, Chancellor Dr. Cohen became Calumet's fourth chancellor in 2001, and helped further its growth and recognition. He helped increase enrollments, raise admission requirements and increase the diversity on campus simultaneously through the school's strategic planning effort. Under Chancellor Cohen's leadership, experiential learning as an undergraduate degree requirement was introduced, as was student housing to attract more degree-persistent students. He also established research centers and institutes to help advance Northwest Indiana. Chancellor Cohen believed that by realizing the vision for Calumet, the region would be transformed and headed for a bright future present Thomas L. Keon, Chancellor Dr. Thomas L. Keon has served Purdue University Calumet as its sixth campus leader and fifth chancellor since July 1, As head of the 9,500-student, Hammond-based, Purdue regional campus, Dr. Keon is overseeing efforts to transition Purdue Calumet into a destination university that continues to graduate large numbers while appealing to persistent, high-performing students. His vision for enhancing regional economic development is taking shape with the ongoing creation of a privately-funded Commercialization and Manufacturing Excellence Center. With his counterpart at Purdue North Central, Dr. Keon is collaborating to further the unification of Calumet and North Central into the emerging Purdue University Northwest. 8 Board of Trustees Purdue University's Board of Trustees consists of ten members, appointed by the governor of Indiana. Three of these members - one of whom must be a graduate of the College of Agriculture - are nominated by the Purdue Alumni Association. The 1975 General Assembly provided for the tenth member, a student. The Board selects the president of the University, decides major policy lines, approves the financial program and budget, approves the president's nominations for major appointments, and approves all construction and major contracts.
