Forbes will contact the student after receiving the application packet to schedule a placement test. After completing the placement tests and reviewing the criminal history and child abuse clearances, Forbes will inform the student of his/her enrollment status. See Admission Policy and Adult Students Clearances in the application packet. Upon approval, the student will receive notification from the Adult Training Department regarding orientation. 5 5 PAYMENT OPTIONS FINANCIAL AID Financial aid is a grant, scholarship, loan or employment opportunity assisting students with educational expenses. Most financial aid is awarded on the basis of financial need, or the difference between the cost of education (tuition, fees, books, transportation, etc.) and the amount parents and/or students can contribute toward these expenses. Forbes applicants may qualify for a PELL grant or Federal Direct Student Loan, in addition to the PA-TIP grant if funding is available and the student is enrolled in an approved program. Eligibility Criteria: In order to be eligible for many forms of financial aid a student must: 1. Be a citizen or eligible non-citizen of the United States. 2. Be enrolled in a degree, diploma or certificate program. 3. Have a high school diploma or GED. 4. Be in good academic standing and maintain satisfactory progress according to college, state and federal regulations. How to apply for federal student aid: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at The financial aid consultant reviews the applicant FAFSA and reports eligibility information to the adult training/financial aid coordinator. Please contact the Adult Program Department at ext. 223 for assistance in obtaining institutional or financial aid information. Forbes FAFSA school code is Forbes students who qualify for a federal grant or loan may be eligible for the maximum amount of aid according to the program cost of attendance (COA) established for the academic year. Part-time students and those attending less than 900 will be awarded aid based on their projected of attendance. 300 hour evening classes, short-term programs and some training programs are not eligible for federal financial aid. PA CAREERLINK Students may qualify for financial assistance if he or she is unemployed, underemployed or a dislocated worker. Contact your local PA CareerLink for more information at , Forest Hills or , Pittsburgh. GI BILL If the student is a veteran, he or she may be eligible for GI Bill Education Benefits. Apply online at If you have already enrolled and received your most recent certificate of eligibility, please include this with your admission application. The veteran may also qualify for funding through the Veterans Leadership Program of Western PA VLPWPA. Call the Pittsburgh office at ext. 253 to schedule an appointment to enroll in the program. OFFICE OF VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION (OVR) Students may qualify for tuition assistance if he or she has a disability. 6 6 PAYMENT OPTIONS (continued) SELF PAY Students have the option of making monthly payments for tuition and supplies if the training program is at least three months in length. Payments are due by the fifth of each month. Interested candidates can request a monthly payment plan when submitting an admission application. Forms of payment include cash, check, money order, and credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover). EMPLOYER PAID Companies may send their employees to Forbes to upgrade their skills and prepare for advancement. Forbes can also provide specialized training focused on the needs of the employer. If the employer is funding the cost of the training, Forbes will make payment arrangements with the company or employer. PROGRAM SCHEDULES Daytime training programs are considered full-time for financial aid and funding purposes. These programs are also intergenerational where adult students will be enrolled with the high school students. Some training is also offered as a part-time evening adult only program. Start dates are provided in the application packet. Candidates can also call our office for more information. A minimum number of students must be enrolled in order to run a class. Program schedules and costs are subject to change. All of the programs and courses offered are subject to cancellation depending upon enrollment. ADMINISTRATIVE CAREERS CIP Code: Program Description: Administrative work is the engine behind the scenes of business success. This program prepares individuals for work in an office setting with training ranging from data entry to creating business documents. Microsoft and office productivity applications and clerical fundamentals such as filing, phone etiquette and scheduling are necessary skills in the field. Students will learn the importance of office personnel functions and how these roles contribute to a positive work flow and professional image of the company. Program completers can pursue high demand entry level administrative support positions in business, medical and educational departments. This program is not eligible for financial aid. 7 7 ADVANCED MANUFACTURING CIP Code: Program Description: Advanced Manufacturing is a high paying field that requires both technical knowledge and hands-on training. Students will learn to design and create metal objects that are useful in everyday life. Students will read blueprints, cut, shape and finish metal products on state-of -the-art manual and computer controlled machines. Students projects have included making: motorcycle parts, all terrain vehicle parts, race car parts, machinist tools, chess sets, ornaments, name tags, gears and 15 pound combat robots. This program is accredited by NIMS (National Institute for Metalworking Skills). Today s commercial artist must be familiar with many forms of production, illustrative techniques, computer graphics and photography. From simple line drawings to computer-generated imaging, the students create art that requires them to apply technical theory to an advertising agency workplace. Students will apply their designs on state-of-the-art equipment including digital printers, laser engravers, vinyl cutters, a sublimation system and the embroidery machine. Students study all the phases of child development: physical, social, emotional and intellectual. They learn about nutrition, guidance, and discipline. They study how to help the child develop daily living skills and about the value of play, literature, music, art, math, and science in child development. 14 14 LANDSCAPE DESIGN CIP Code: Program Description: Landscape Design is a profession that focuses on designing everything outdoors from gardens to residential landscapes to commercial properties. The Landscape Design program immerses students in the theory of landscape and floral design, broadens their horticultural knowledge and plant vocabulary, and nurtures their creativity while grounding them technically. This program is a specialized curriculum designed to prepare students to be desirable employees of nurseries, greenhouses, florists or landscape businesses. Both maintenance and establishment of lawns, as well as, landscaping homes and businesses are included in the curriculum. The principles of design are also included along with plant identification, budgeting, and cultivation procedures. This program is not eligible for financial aid.
