2 Supports and /STS-1 (EC-1) Interfaces NEBS-Level 3 Compliant Remote ing from a Centralized Location The Access System () family of test and monitoring products enables network service providers to efficiently isolate and correct network problems without dispatching personnel to remote locations. For wireless and wireline service providers operating in the access network, the NEBS-Level 3 compliant platform offers a true carrier-class solution. In today s network environment where equipment is often located in leased, colocation facilities or carrier neutral locations, costly demands are placed on service providers to hire qualified technicians for turning-up new circuits and for troubleshooting. Both of these impact revenue streams and service commitments particularly when service quality is being measured in minutes, if not seconds. M13 IP Access Channel Bank ATM Voice Internet ATM Backbone PSTN COLOCATION or POP OSS RTM Circuit Database KEY Facility Facing Interfaces Equipment Facing Interfaces NOC By providing non-intrusive monitoring, drop and insert testing, termination testing and monitored loopback functionality, products enable service providers to perform circuit isolation and testing from a centralized location the moment that a problem is detected. Circuits can be redirected to diagnostic equipment connected to the, and the network operations center can perform any test instantly without having to dispatch a technician. This avoids a costly truck roll, accelerates service restoration and ensures service commitments are maintained. ing and Management The provides all the test access functionality of a Digital Cross-connect System (DCS) at a fraction of the cost and space, and is optimized for applications where grooming is not required. The Access System integrates with virtually all existing central office test heads and their operational support systems by emulating common network elements that have been widely deployed. Each system is capable of providing control through a VT-100 craftsperson interface, or by accepting industry standard TL-1 commands from a user or a testing system. Combining the functionality with Remote Manager (RTM) software can further enhance the solution. RTM is an open test solution that utilizes a Java based, graphical user interface to control the products. It also provides interfaces to leading test heads and other network elements that have test access facilities, including most DCS platforms. 3 As networks grow and become more distributed, the difficulty of wide area circuit testing increases significantly. Maintaining expanding networks with traditional mobile field service technicians is both time consuming and expensive. The Remote Manager (RTM) distributed testing solution allows centrally located technicians to perform comprehensive transmission and service analysis at unmanned remote locations. One or more NOC workstations can control remote test equipment dispersed throughout the network. Communication between the NOC and remote sites is achieved over a choice of wide-area connections: dial-up, dedicated, X.25, or TCP/IP. The RTM server simplifies the use for the technician by handling all of these connections. The RTM server provides multi-user access to remote test equipment from any UNIX or PC workstation. Circuit test or monitor access is automated using Eastern s Systems. Multiple test set front panels can be displayed at a single workstation to perform end-to-end testing. Additionally, the RTMs Virtual Distributed Display (VDD) feature enables a single test set to be managed concurrently from multiple workstations, improving test coordination. RTM can also be hosted with other network management tools to consolidate network control activities. Centralized ing Expertise The RTM centralizes network expertise to optimize resources and reduce circuit downtime. It provides set-up, control activities and direct access to test results for analysis and report generation. Macros improve the consistency of test procedures and techniques throughout the entire network for speedy isolation and solution of problems. Technicians can access multiple test sets simultaneously at their workstations for complete control of an end-to-end test. Mobile technicians can use a single dial-in connection to the RTM server to gain access to any test resource on the network. True Client/Server Management Solution RTM is a client/server test management solution available with all products. It provides powerful, centralized and distributed test capabilities which optimize existing test resources to reduce travel time and expenses for network technicians. The RTM client is supported on Sun Solaris, OS/2, and Windows platforms. It provides a Java-based Graphical User Interface, which is integrated as desktop icons on Operation Centers (NOC) management consoles. The server requires a Unix or Windows NT/2000 Pro platform. The client/server architecture provides shared access to RTM applications and resources, including all switches, test sets, and the circuit/connection databases from one or more client workstations.

4 System Description The product line consists of five equipment chassis and a complement of hot swappable modules. Interchangeable throughout the product line, these modules supply the carrier with protocol agnostic test solutions for and /STS-1 (EC-1) making the interoperable with TDM, ATM, and IP networks. The products not only provide network trouble isolation but also optimize network reliability. In the unlikely event of a fault condition within the, there is no interruption in service. functions as a passive device, enabling services to continue through the platform, insuring that no service outage would be caused by a component failure. The system provides BNC connectors and tie-down bars for all /STS-1 (EC-1) connections. The system utilizes wire wrap for connections. These connections are protected by a plexi-glass cover. Expansion Switch The Expansion Switch allows three T3 systems to share common test equipment, further reducing cost and expanding the system capacity to 72 /STS-1 (EC-1) interfaces. 5 Central Office and in Conjunction with Service Delivery Platforms Service delivery and creation platforms such as ATM and Frame Relay switches, routers and Class 5 switches continually evolve in an effort to increase subscriber density and extend the platform life cycle. This is typically accomplished through the design of high-density interfaces for both channelized and unchannelized services. These gains often come at the expense of diagnostic functionality. IP ATM Voice NB140 DACS STS-1 Access Deploying the in conjunction with these platforms not only enhances the testing functionality, but delivers the capability to test from a centralized remote location. Additionally, test equipment is reduced or eliminated and enables new service turn-up without a truck roll. POP Application Service Providers and the Enterprise Enterprise applications benefit from deploying where services Partners are provided internally or through third party service providers. Typical enterprise configurations can be complex when connections are required to satellite offices, customers and partners. Also, with offsite data storage, centralized control facilities and a multitude of carriers, management can become a huge challenge. Using the as the convergence point for all enterprise communication facilities, enables NOC personnel to quickly diagnose any service outage and initiate the steps required for service restoration without dispatching personnel or relying upon unqualified or local support.
