3 Introduction The UN Cabo Verde logo is one of the agency s most precious assets. UNCV continues its work to ensure that it remains relevant in changing markets. The new corporate signature is an important component that helps to energize and invigorate the brand. When used properly, the UNCV logo elementes support a carefully designed corporate identity guideline: they allow us to speak with one voice in and out of the agency. These standards provide the building blocks for supporting UNCV s corporate identity. They are designed to help you apply the UNCV Corporate Signature correctly and consistently across all media. 3. 4 Vertical Horizontal The UN Cabo Verde Logo: Corporate Identity definition e UN Cabo Vede logo is based upon the general United Nations picture logo, with globe and laurel wreath. is classical visual is widely recognized, emblematic and trusted. It stresses reliability, tradition and of course the link with the world community. e UN Cabo Vede logo acquires personality and identity by 3 means: the font TFforever: this sans serif-type font is modern and institutional, yet at the same time contemporary, fresh and very well readable. note that the dominating text element in the logo is Cabo Vede rather than United Nations. the use of the colours from the Capeverdean ag: these 3 colours are used alongside the typical UN blue and stress the vital relationship between One UN, the country and its people. the tagline Juntos na Acção which over the past period has become a key element in UN Cabo Vede communication materials. 4.

In o ine communication (mostly o set printing) the logo must be at least: 18x26 mm for the use of the tagline version to be permitted. Please note: These signature elements and their relationship to each other have been carefully designed and should not be altered in any way. Always use approved artwork. 6.

Avoid crowding the signature with other graphic elements such as typography and imagery. As illustrated above, the height of CABO VERDE together with the tagline Juntos na acção (X) has been chosen as the standard unit of measurement for calculating the signature clear area. 8.

9 The UN Cabo Verde logo: incorrect usage The only correct uses of the UNCV logo are as shown on the previous pages, as horizontal Identity and vertical Identity. Any other color combination or arrangement is not allowed. The UNCV logo may never be broken apart when used on the same page of any printed or on-screen communication. All o ce corporate identity tools such as stationery, business cards, envelopes, etc. entirely rely on these colours. Layout of more complex communication tools, such as brochures, websites and powerpoint-presentations, is equally based on the same colours. They should be used in all cases where it is available. 18.

19 Images Images can play an important role in strengthening a visual identity. erefore, quality control in the selection of those images is very important. A. Technical quality Images need to have a minimum resolution in order to be of use. Resolution is de ned as the number of pixels per square inch and is a universal standard to measure the technical quality of a visual. To this standard is referred to with dpi or dots per inch. for display on screen you need at least 72 dpi for print in o set you need at least 300 dpi B. Esthetical quality is is no exact science of course. A couple of general recommendations: prefer bright colours instead of dull and washed out colours. avoid images that have no clear focus in subject. when picturing people, prefer close-ups and portraits rather than large groups C. Conversion of images to One UN visual identity Images may be of people, of situations, of objects, of animals, depending on the subject that needs to be visualized. Generally speaking, it is recommended to use a maximum of pictures of people alone or in group who are engaged in activities or who look straight into the lens. 25 Welcome Welcome to the second edition of Morabeza, we would like to share with you the news on prog - ress of the UN reform in Cape Verde: - In December, with special thanks to the UNDG, an Interagency mission (UNDP, UNESCO, UNICEF) came to Praia to assist the UNCT with the working draft of the One Programme. - There was a very historic event on the first of January, as Cape Verde graduated from the LDC group. Following its Graduation, the Government arranged a two day Ambassadors meeting on January to discuss its strategy for the transition, and to listen to its main development partners. The UN, represented by various resident and non resident agencies, spoke with one voice on the UN s commitment to support the country, mainly through the One Programme being developed. - The second meeting of the Steering Committee for Delivering as One UN was held on the 28th January 2008, again co-chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and by the UN RC, with wide UN participation including all resident and several non resident agencies, the Director General of International Cooperation(DGCI) and Director General Planning (DGP) as well as a representative from the civil society (Plataforma ONG). Agreement was reached on the TOR for the Steering Committee, and the final version is also in line with the recommendations made by the RDT in October, which has been sent by the Government to the UNCT for implementation. This edition of the Morabeza newsletter features two articles, one on the Paris Declaration and a special piece on UNIDO and the UN Reform. Cape Verde and the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness The Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness was born in the High-Level Forum meeting in Paris on March the 2nd, 2005, in order to increase the impact that development aid has in reducing poverty and inequality, increasing growth, building capacity and accelerating achievement of the MDGs. A large group of donors endorsed the Memorandum of Understanding in order to apply the budget support ODA modality in December 2006, estimated at 22% of actual ODA, and expected to increase in coming years. Members of the group are: Africa Development Bank, Austria, European Commission, Netherlands, Spain and the World Bank. Edition nº 2 - Feb, 2008 Key Events -ONUDI Mission, from 20 to 22 February 2008, for the launch of the Quality Program of UNIDO --quality infrastructures to support Cape Verdian businesses in delivering products and services in compliance with international standards. Expected to be one of the pillars of the One UN programme under finalization. -28 February - 1 March visit of UN Ambassadors of Ireland and Tanzania, co-chairs of the UN System Wide Coherence(SWC) group -March, UNEG mission to conduct evaluation study Results already show an encouraging situation and prove that Cape Verde is well on its way to achieving the targets of the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness by In 2008 Cape Verde is again one of the countries confirmed to participate in the Survey on Monitoring the Paris Declaration and attended in January a regional meeting in Dakar for the 2008 Survey process. Cape Verde reiterated its interest in participating in the High Level Forum this upcoming September in Accra (Ghana) to review progress in implementing this Declara - tion. Marco Antonio Ortega, Specialist in Official Development Aid Management and Coordination The Role of the UN and the Paris Declaration The UN in Cape Verde is an important and trusted partner in development. Government and donors in Cape Verde agree on the major technical and coordination role of the UN. Donors meetings, coordinated by the UN RC are considered an important input in the harmonization process of the implementation of the Paris Declaration. In Cape Verde, where several donors are located abroad, UN can also play a role in monitoring donor alignment and cooperation. At the same time, the UN is facilitating national counterpart access to aid among donors, facilitating channels of communications and coordinating support. The UN is thus also playing a significant role as advocate of the country to mobilize interna - tional funds to achieve national priorities. Newsletters The UN Cabo Verde newsletter is based on Morabeza Newsletter layout, which makes full use of UN Cabo Verde logo s visual features in terms of typography and color scheme. 25.
