Valpo High School has support groups for kids in recovery kids can be ordered or self-referred. Use categories for drugs, rather than list the individual drugs.

Include HORT, breaking down factionalism, and DDTF awards and public awareness and Safe Schools and SROs 2. Community becoming more connected, increase in membership, membership committee is conducting outreach. (Notes: #2 connection is key, retention goal add to membership committee, possibly a grievance committee). Goals Change to Porter County Substance Abuse Council will partner with all relevant parties including our members, families, media, government, agencies, business, fraternal organization, and others with a community-focused goal of a significant decrease in substance abuse. Objectives 1. Ok 2. Ok 3. Change, Create a community-wide response to address the legalization/decriminalization of marijuana. In updates include that we support the efforts of positive youth development. Next Meeting: Monday, April 27 8 a.m.

Revised problem statement, In Porter County we have a high rate of substance use and youth are starting at a younger age. Supporting data to use in support of this change 1. Numbers from Priority score 3. Heroin overdoses and age of people that overdose Goals 1. Decrease the use of tobacco, drugs, alcohol and other mood-altering substances in Porter County. 2. Increase and/or maintain substance use preventative initiatives in our schools and community. 3. Educate parents on substances, use, signs of use, intervention techniques, consequences, and resources in the community. Objectives 1. Support preventative substance abuse measures, focusing on the year old age group. 2. Okay 3. Okay 4. Okay 5. The criminal justice system and the local schools will collaborate to assist in decreasing substance use by our youth. 6. Provide information for parents about community resources which focus on programs for children. 7. Support preventative substance abuse measures to reduce opiate use/abuse. 8. Encourage the formation of support groups for minor children of substance abusers and youth in recovery.

Goal 1 change to read, Support a variety of treatment programs with a basis for effectiveness and have these programs available to Porter County residents. Family & Youth Services Bureau Fresh Start Frontline Foundations Hope Counseling New Beginnings Porter-Starke Are we missing any? Noted that it takes 8-10 weeks for an adult to see a psychiatrist in the county. Assignments for data collection were given to members at the meeting. Next Meeting: Monday, February 23 9 a.m.

Review of purpose and goals. Are the problem statements, goals and objectives this still relevant and pertinent? We need data to support the goals and objectives. Problem Statement 1 Is there any data to support theft/robbery/burglary arrests are related to substance abuse? Tim says data is captured but not reported. If we provided resource we could get the data. Are all children drug tested at arrest? Are all adults drug tested at arrest? No, too cost prohibitive. HIDTA gave presentation to PCSAC Drunk Driving Task Force. Staff to make report available to committee members. Include HIDTA data in the supporting area of CCP, number 4 under B. Supportive Data. Goals changes suggested 1. Increase awareness of substance abuse and crimes associated with substance use/abuse. 2. Reduce transportation, availability and accessibility of illegal substances, controlled substances and mind-altering substances % compliance of businesses selling mind-altering substances to minors, by 10/2016. Objectives changes suggested 3. Continue to support the Porter County Drug Unit, HIDTA, and other law enforcement organizations and task forces. 4. Support the use of equipment and methods that will enhance the arrest of a drug or alcohol offender. 13. Encourage prosecutors and judges to seek and impose maximum sentences on drug and alcohol-related offenses. Data review and collection has begun. Next Meeting: Monday, February 9 9 a.m.
