4 Faculty Appointment, Reappointment, Tenure and Promotion Tenure-track (probationary) faculty Hired as Assistant Professor with expectation of achieving tenure (Can be hired as Assoc Prof w/ or w/o tenure) First term of employment: 4 years Reviewed for second 3-year term in 3 rd year (to allow a year s notice before termination) Reviewed for tenure and promotion to Associate Professor in 6 th year (7 th year is terminal year) For promotion to Professor, no mandatory schedule but typical period at NC State is 7 years
