4 WORD FROM THE DEAN AND PROGRAM DIRECTOR Dear international partners and students, We are proud to be able to invite you to visit our institution and the capital of Croatia. FEB Zagreb is located in Croatia s pleasant, diverse and comfortable capital which is only 90 minutes away from the unique Adriatic coast. As a public faculty in a young transitional country, we have gone through many reforms with many yet to come. We want to grow as an internationally recognized institution of top quality teaching and research in the field of economics and business. It is our ambition to be recognized as the best of its kind in this part of Europe. As one of the largest faculties in Croatia in terms of the number of teachers and students and thereby its impact on Croatian economy and society as a whole, FEB Zagreb is an institution that operates in a competitive and challenging environment. In order to be able to shape Croatia s economic future, we strive to act with a clear focus on achieving excellence and further strengthening of our international dimension. Our study programs have been designed in accordance with learning outcomes and international standards, which is confirmed by necessary accreditation. It is interesting to say that the Faculty of Economics & Business of the University of Zagreb has an impressive portfolio of study programs, which reflects the broadness of knowledge and depth of expertise of our faculty and their active involvement in international trends. This, of course, is primarily a result of analyzing the needs of the economy and the public sector. An important step in realizing our vision is establishing partnerships with other institutions of this kind in Europe and around the world. 5 Official EPAS accreditation award ceremony held at the EFMD annual general meeting in Brussels, June, 2011 in mind, we are expanding and strengthening our capacity for exchange of people, ideas and experiences. As an initial step towards widening our international network, we introduced the Bachelor Degree in Business program, a 4-year English-taught program for both Croatian and international applicants, which is open to both students and teachers from all around the world. In 2011 the Faculty of Economics & Business was awarded the prestigious EPAS accreditation for the EBIP/BDiB program by the European Federation for Management Development (EFMD). In order to obtain the award, EBIP/BDiB program was evaluated according to the rigorous criteria of academic excellence, corporate links and international orientation. The EPAS accreditation signifies a confirmation of the FEB s academic excellence, enhancement of its international cooperation and reward to entire staff for their efforts. A significant advantage of the EPAS accreditation regards our BDiB students, who will benefit from the EPAS accreditation by gaining additional recognition at the labor market. The EPAS accreditation clearly demonstrates that the Faculty of Economics & Business continues to fulfill its role as the leading educational institution in the region. 6 ABOUT THE FACULTY University of Zagreb was founded in the late 19, among the first of universities in Europe. The Faculty of Economics & Business Zagreb was founded in 1920; hence, it represents the oldest institution of higher education in this part of Europe as a part of the University of Zagreb. Today, the Faculty of Economics & Business Zagreb is the leading and the biggest institution of higher education for entrepreneurial education in the Region. More than 200 researchers of the Faculty of Economics & Business Zagreb are employed on various economic and entrepreneurial research projects. Mission Faculty of Economics & Business Zagreb (FEB) is committed to research and education of highly qualified experts, who will successfully respond to contemporary global business challenges, hence raising the quality of higher and scientific education in international environment. 7 FEB Zagreb main building The Faculty consists of and performs undergraduate and graduate degree programs, as well as the postgraduate doctoral and specialist studies in the field of economics and business. We have harmonized new undergraduate and graduate teaching programs of economics and business to the principles of Bologna declaration. Currently, the Faculty of Economics & Business Zagreb has over students. Each year between and students graduate from the Faculty of Economics & Business. 8 BACHELOR DEGREE IN BUSINESS (BDiB) Bachelor Degree in Business is a 4-year undergraduate university study program (240 ECTS) which was introduced in the academic year 2008/2009. It is still the only degree university business study program fully taught in English in the Republic of Croatia. The vision of the program for is to act as a model for change of the whole institution in terms of quality of education, research and excellence. Hence the new BDiB motto: the forerunner of changes. Therefore, the main objectives of BDiB can be summarized as the following: 1. Provide students with knowledge and deep understanding of modern international business environment 2. By offering educational programs for the business community, the Faculty of Economics & Business of the University of Zagreb has additionally enhanced its role as a public educational and scientific institution and strengthened its relations with the business environment. The creation of the professional degree study program also represents a significant insight into cooperation with the businesses as it enables Croatian firms, as well as public enterprises, to apply the most recent international achievements from the fields of economics and business through cooperation with the Faculty professors. The Faculty organizes numerous lectures by renowned experts to enable the students to acquire practical knowledge demonstrated by Croatia s top businessmen. Additionally, FEB Zagreb has signed contracts with renowned Croatian and multinational companies such as Microsoft, Pliva, IBM and others in order to connect the students with their future employees through internships and project work. Cooperation with the business community is also demonstrated by the involvement of FEBUZ s professors in Supervisory Boards and governing bodies of various businesses and state agencies. Its innovative software enables dermatologists to gather information about their patients and monitor their therapy in a unique and highly personalized way. Additionally, the students developed an innovative Teddy the Guardian a teddy bear that helps determine the child s heart rate, blood pressure, oxygenation, and body temperature in a fun and painless way. They were so impressed with our export plan that we received a special award. Applicants who obtained their high school education abroad must have their high school diploma recognized in Croatia. 17 BDiB - the forerunner of changes How to apply? - applicants that have completed or will complete secondary education in the Republic of Croatia must apply to the National Information and Application System for Higher Education (NISpVU) through the web site For further assistance please contact the coordinator of state graduation exam in your school. - applicants that have completed secondary education abroad should contact the Central Application Office (Središnji prijavni ured), Donje Svetice 38, Zagreb ( azvo.hr/cao), by phone , , or by spu@azvo.hr. All information about the application and enrollment procedure for students who are applying for enrollment into the first year of studies in the academic year 2012/2013 which includes the application procedure, choice of the study program, candidate rankings and announcements of rankings are available on the official website of the National Centre for External Evaluation of Education and other official bodies that implement the procedure. The amount of the tuition fee can be paid in four installments. 20 BACHELOR DEGREE IN BUSINESS USEFUL INFORMATION VISAS AND RESIDENT PERMITS Passport or some other internationally recognized identification document which proves your identity and citizenship, issued by governmental authorities of your home or resident country is required to entry in the Republic of Croatia. Tourists may remain in Croatia for up to three months. Visa is required for the foreign students coming from the countries whose citizens require a visa for entering Croatia. Visa is a permission to enter, stay or travel through the territory of the Republic of Croatia. A foreign citizen is required to get a visa before entering the Republic of Croatia, in accordance with the visa system prescribed by the Croatian government. Visas are normally issued by the diplomatic mission or the consular office of the Republic of Croatia. Visa cannot be used as a work permit. The rooms in the residences are double or triple (there are no single rooms) and sometimes have their own bathrooms. In other cases bathrooms will be shared by the residents of the same floor. Private Housing For those who are not assigned university accommodation it is necessary to look for alternatives such as private rental accommodation. Payment is usually expected at the beginning of the month, while some landlords request payment for several months in advance. The best option is to enrol in an insurance plan from your home country that covers your stay in Croatia. Foreign students who decide to take out a Croatian health insurance policy can do so at the Croatian Health Insurance Institute (Hrvatski zavod za zdravstveno osiguranje-hzzo).
