20 Rural Innovation Camps Innovation camps Summary Innovation Camps are a tool to encourage the development of new ideas, products and services and also different ways of working in rural areas. Finnish NSU has arranged both national and regional camps. They have brought together specialists and entrepreneurs to develop innovative solutions to the threats and opportunities apparent in Finnish rural areas. Over three days and two nights the ideas are developed in to new products, services and methods. Main Activities Key Success Finnish NSU organized with its partners a national Innovation Camp in An open call for rural innovation ideas was launched. 47 different ideas were identified and 8 of these were developed further in the Camp. In 2013 the Innovation Cams were taken to regional level. Through open call 5 areas were selected where regional camps are organized. A new model for developing innovation was launched and it has been disseminated at a regional level. New actors took part in the process - even urban actors were interested in participating. We have built new innovations and ways of doing things and promoted the potential of rural areas for new growth.
21 Innovation camps Conclusion Innovation Camps are an excellent tool to develop the rural innovation environment in order to increase and improve co-operation between experts and develop and share a new method of working. It works both on national and regional level. Innovation Camps showcase the strengths of the countryside, develop new rural innovations in product development and service provision and raise awareness of the opportunities provided by the RDP's. Innovation Camps can also be used as tool to build and develop EIPs, European Innovation Parnerships.
