2 Otay Water District Residential Water Survey Hold Harmless Agreement The customer at the below address is interested in reducing water use on his/her property and requests assistance from the Otay Water District in doing so. It is the customer s option to implement part or all of the recommendations. Any activities beyond the residential water survey conducted by the District s staff, such as the customer installation of showerheads, aerators, and toilet displacement devices will be at the sole discretion, risk, and cost of the customer. This agreement gives the Otay Water District s Water Surveyors permission to enter and to be on the customer s property for the purpose of conducting a residential water survey. Customer agrees to defend, indemnify, protect and hold the Otay Water District, their agents, officers, and employees harmless from and against any and all claims or liability for injuries or damages to any person or property which arise from or are connected with or are caused or claimed to be caused by the acts or omissions of the customer or from conditions on the customer s property; provided, however, that the customer s duty to indemnify and hold harmless shall not include any claims or liability arising from the established sole negligence or willful misconduct of the Otay Water District, their agents, officers, or employees in performing the work or services or supplying materials or equipment to the customer. 3 WATER CONSUMPTION PROJECTION Account Number Customer Name Service Address One unit equals 100 cubic feet (HCF) or gallons TODAY S DATE: TODAY S METER READING: HCF LAST METER READING: - HCF YOUR TOTAL WATER USAGE: HCF DATE OF LAST READING: TOTAL DAYS SINCE LAST READING CONVERSION TO GALLONS (748.5 gallons = 1HCF X = GALLONS TOTAL GALLONS TOTAL DAYS = GALLONS PER DAY GALLONS PER DAY X 30 X 30 = GALLONS in 30 DAYS NEXT BILL PROJECTION (if current usage continues) Total gallons used in 30 days gallons = Total HCF = HCF Otay Water District Water Conservation

4 WATER USE AND TOTAL WATER USAGE PROJECTIONS The Otay Water District bills customers approximately every 30 days; a billing cycle may vary between 29 to 31 days depending on the actual day the meter is read. Customers are billed for the exact number of days between billing periods. Water consumption is measured and billed in units of 100 cubic feet or HCF; one HCF is gallons of water. YOUR TOTAL WATER USAGE is the difference between the current meter reading (TODAY S METER READING) and the previous meter reading (LAST METER READING). To figure out your average daily usage, YOUR TOTAL WATER USAGE is divided by the number of days between the meter readings. It is easier to understand this number when calculated in gallons per day. The NEXT BILL PROJECTION is the average daily usage in GALLON PER DAY multiplied by 30 DAYS. The Otay Water District will display total water usage in HCF on your water bill. If a bill projection indicates a significant increase in water usage, this may be due to various factors: seasonal changes with resultant increase in exterior water usage; planting a new lawn or plants with additional water usage; or, a property-side leak which may need immediate attention. The most common property-side leak is a toilet leak which may vary from between 20 gallons per day to more than 4,000 gallons per day. Make Every Drop Count!

Replace shower heads/faucet aerators with those provided by the Surveyor. EXTERIOR Repair all exterior leaks that have been found during the Survey. Leaks are located: Visit to develop a customized watering schedule. Remember: Cutback watering time in the fall and winter months. Adjust the irrigation schedule according to seasonal changes. Turn off the irrigation system during rainy periods. Run the irrigation system before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m. Install separate irrigation valves for watering grass independently from trees, shrubs, and other plant materials. Reduce water to grass, trees, shrubs, and other plant materials located in shady areas. Consider installing a drip irrigation system. Install a weather smart irrigation controller and reduce your landscape water usage by 10%. Use 2 to 4 inches of mulch around all plants but keep away from trunks. Consider applying for our dollar-for-foot Cash for Plants Program that can significantly reduce your landscape water usage. Review sprinkler heads monthly and adjust or fix as necessary.
