1 Contents Introduction to FTA Data Uploader Downloading the FTA Data Uploader First Login Configuring the archive location Additional Information Disabling Smartcard Plug and Play on Windows 7 FTA Data Uploader While we have moved as much functionality as possible to the web (to gain all the advantages of what the IT industry calls Software-as-a-Service ) there are some elements that are not yet possible to do through a web browser. One of those is reading a drivers card via the Omnikey card reader, the other is scanning analogue charts for analysis. Note: If you intend to change your Gateway passwords please do so before you begin this installation. The Username and Password for the FTA Gateway and FTA Data Uploader should be exactly the same. To enable these features in CDU Online you will need to download and install the FTA Data Uploader, the following guide takes you through that process. Note: If you are using a scanner, do not connect it to your computer until directed to in during the installation. Windows 7 Smartcard Reader Windows 7 will have the Windows 7 smartcard reader drivers pre installed, this will need to be disabled to allow the Omnikey Card reader to work. 2 Downloading the FTA Data Uploader 1. Go to the FTA Gateway ( login and open CDU Online. 2. Open the Upload Tab, to the right hand side there is a link to download the FTA Data Uploader: 3. Click the link and your browser will ask you to down load the file. If you re using Internet Explorer, you should see this: 4. Click Run (or save it somewhere first if you prefer). 3 5. The installation will start and the following screen will be displayed, click next: 6. Keep clicking next until you come to the Enable Scanning? screen: If you use a scanner to send the FTA your analogue charts you will need to select Yes. Selecting Yes configures the software to make regular checks over the internet with CDU Online for scanning requests. Page 3 of 12 GRD 11

4 Selecting No configures the software not to check CDU Online for scanning requests Note: This feature can be turned on or off at a later date in the software options. 7. The FTA Uploader will now ask if you intend to use the software on a virtual Citrix environment, click next. 8. After making your choices you will be presented with the Installation Folder screen (below). If multiple people are going to be using the software then select Everyone and click next. 5 The installer will then begin to install the required software, including the scanner drivers. When installing the scanner drivers a new installation window will open: Simply follow the onscreen instructions for the scanner Twain and High Speed Scanner drivers. 9. You will be asked to install the Set Up User Utility Page 5 of 12 GRD 11

6 Accept the Terms and run through the steps to install the User Utility, you will be asked to choose a location path and folder. Leave these as the package recommends. 10. Eventually the following message will be displayed: DO NOT click OK, instead follow the instructions below; Connect your scanner to your computer and switch it on, the scanner should start to install itself. Occasionally windows may ask you to walk through the install new hardware wizard Select No, not this time and click Next. Page 6 of 12 GRD 11

7 Select Install the software automatically (Recommended) and click next. Windows will then attempt to install the scanner and the following dialogue box will appear: Click continue anyway, and eventually the install should be complete: Page 7 of 12 GRD 11

8 Click Finish to complete the scanner installation. Now the installation is completed click OK on the Installation of Scanner Software pop up. Another pop up will show to install the FTA Scanning Utility click OK You will be presented with this pop up, the mode is automatically set to ON, click on SET and then click on CLOSE the mode is now set. 9 11. When the FTA Data Uploader has finished installing click Close : The FTA Uploader and Scanner software installation packages are now complete. The Omnikey card reader will now start to install, this should happen automatically. 12. When the Omnikey driver starts to install, accept the terms and install as instructed. Once the install has finished you will be asked to plug in the card reader and click OK. Page 9 of 12 GRD 11

10 If the installation detects that you do not have Tacho File Viewer you will now have the opportunity to install the software. 12. Click Ok and follow the steps to install. Once installed you will be asked to finish the session, before you do so un-tick Launch Tacho File Viewer The full installation is now complete. Page 10 of 12 GRD 11

11 First Login After completing the installation of the FTA Data Uploader, the software should start automatically and should pop-up with: Enter your FTA Gateway username (usually your address) and password and click Login, if you re successful you ll see the following message: Configuring the Archive location After logging in for the first time, the user will be presented with the following dialogue box: Page 11 of 12 GRD 11

12 The archive is where the FTA Data Uploader will store a copy of the data that you upload to the FTA. While the data uploaded by the FTA Data Uploader will also appear in the Archive tab on CDU Online, the archive you are configuring here is different and is local to your PC or network. The default location for the archive is: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\FTA\Archive\ You can use this window to set the archive location to a different location i.e. My Documents although advised that you map the archive to a network location if available. Usually network drivers are regularly backed up meaning you have extra data security should something go wrong. Additional functions Once installed and logged in, a new FTA logo icon should appear in your system stray: The FTA Data Uploader is design to operate in the background, only becoming active when either a card is inserted into the card reader or a scan chart request is made. However, right clicking the FTA logo opens the following menu: Go to FTA Gateway: Clicking this menu option will open internet explorer and direct you the FTA Gateway website. Connection Settings: Your connection settings should automatically be detected by the FTA Data Uploader when you install the software, but should they change in the future you can click this link to edit the settings (it s advisable to have a member of your IT team with you when changing these settings) Enable Scanning: This turns the scanning functionality on or off (a tick means the functionality is currently active). View Archive: This opens a standard Windows Explorer window to the folder previously designated as your archive. Close: Clicking this menu option will shut down the FTA Data Uploader. To disable smart card Plug and Play in local Group Policy for Windows 7 1. On a client computer, click Start, type gpedit.msc in the Search programs and files box, and then press ENTER. 2. In the console tree under Computer Configuration, click Administrative Templates. 3. In the details pane, double-click Windows Components, and then double-click Smart Card. 4. Right-click Turn on Smart Card Plug and Play service, and then click Edit. 5. Click Disabled, and then click OK. Page 12 of 12 GRD 11
