John Jennings July 30th Age 29. Interviewed by J Crok, elder. This Friend is deaf and dumb and has a great desire to leave his present employ to study the word that he might preach it to others like himself. His replies were very incorrect placing great stress upon being baptised as he considers he should then be better. I gave him a book to read and told to come back in a month.

One month later, interview by Geo Moore, elder: This young man is quite deaf & dumb & preaches to the Deaf & dumb for some time past. 4 years since he heard Mr Reipp who preaches to the D & D in the Borough Road & became impressed & very unhappy He read the word very much, sat up all night sometimes to read in prayer much & wept sorely. Was very unhappy for 2 or 3 years but believes the Spirit brought deliverance to his soul thro reading the Word. He now felt much for the souls of others afflicted like himself. Believes salvation to be by Grace alone & mans entire helplessness by nature. Believes in final perseverance. Rest alone on the Blood & Righteousness of Christ for salvation. Believes the ordinance of Baptism is set forth plainly in the Word of God & desires to be Baptised & obey his Lords command in the Supper. This is his principle object in wishing to be united to our Church. I find much trouble in understanding him but believe it is a good case & gave him a card.

John Jennings believed 1 Saved by Grace alone Because by grace you have salvation through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is given by God. Ephesians chapter 2 verse 8

John Jennings believed 2 We can do nothing to save ourselves Not by works, so that no man may take glory to himself. Ephesians chapter 2 verse 9

John Jennings believed 3 True Christians are saved forever Jesus said: I give my sheep eternal life. They will never die, and no one can take them out of my hand. John chapter 10 verse 28

John Jennings believed 4 Jesus Blood and Righteousness only can save you We have salvation through his blood, the forgiveness of our sins, through the wealth of his grace. Ephesians chapter 1 verse 7

A man knows he is saved by believing in Christ. He does not say baptism saved him. He knows that is a mistake. He has no right to be baptised until he is saved. Pastor Spurgeon
