1 PRESS RELEASE NO Prizewinners of the 2013 Iconic Awards have been determined Frankfurt am Main, July 15, 2013 A highly esteemed jury of experts selected the prizewinners of the 2013 Iconic Awards on June 27, With a multitude of high-quality submissions, the cross-disciplinary architectural competition of the German Design Council has already set high standards in its first round. Following comprehensive assessment of the submissions and in-depth professional discussions, the jury agreed upon the first Iconic Awards. They awarded the highest award Best of Best a total of 28 times in the five competition categories. In addition, further outstanding projects in the individual categories were honored with the award Winner. The special awards Architects of the Year and Project of the Year include prize money and were awarded to the Spanish architects Selgas Cano and the project Louvre Lens (Museum Architecture: Sanaa, presentation of the exhibits: Adrien Gardère). The honorary prize Architects Client of the Year went to Max Hollein as principal of the Städel Museum extension in Frankfurt. Andrej Kupetz, General Manager of German Design Council is pleased with the competition s premiere: The wide range of international participants as well as the great number of outstanding submissions, especially in the Architecture category, impressed us and made the first Iconic Awards a complete success. Our approach of considering the interaction of the disciplines and therefore honoring architecture under one entire aspect, has been very well received throughout the sector. This positive feedback is a strong motivation for us to further expand the competition and usher in the second round next year. The award ceremony for the 2013 Iconic Awards will take place during the Expo Real trade fair in October. The Best of Best awards for individual competition categories, as well as special prizes and the honorary prize, will be presented within the framework of the award ceremony. Iconic Awards With the Iconic Awards the German Design Council focuses on outstanding, holistic architecture and interior design. As an international competition, which considers the interaction of various disciplines, the Iconic Awards provide the entire world of architecture with a forum. Participants compete in the categories Architecture, Interior,, Communication and Concept, as well as in the special categories Architects of the Year, Interior Designers of the Year and Project of the Year. In addition, the honorary prize Architects Client of the Year is awarded.

2 German Design Council The German Design Council is an independent and internationally operating institution, which supports firms in efficiently communicating design expertise and simultaneously aims at enhancing the understanding of design amongst the wider public. Established 1953 on the initiative of the German Bundestag (the lower house of German parliament) as a foundation, the German Design Council is committed with its competitions, exhibitions, conferences, seminars and publications to furthering excellent design.
