A vcatinal qualificatin ffers a practical learning prgramme, challenges the learner and prvides them with the skills and cnfidence needed t cntribute t a specific rle in the wrkplace. This qualificatin will prvide the learner with the knwledge, skills and techniques f teaching and enable the learner t effectively plan, prepare, deliver, mnitr and evaluate thery and practical aquatic sessins. Achievement f this qualificatin will prvide the learner with a qualificatin which is recgnised as the minimum standard, enabling the learner t teach aquatic sessins independently. 16 Assessment requirements: T cmplete this unit learners are required t evidence: The prductin f a minimum f six teaching sessin plans fr aquatics, fur f which must be linked and prgressive. The planned sessins must be f a minimum f 30 minutes in duratin. All sessins must be drawn frm the level 2 technical syllabus develped fr aquatics. Guidance: Appendix A is an example f a sessin plan template that may be used twards achievement f assessment criteria within this unit. 17 Unit 206TA Unit title: Prepare the aquatic teaching envirnment Reference Number: T/503/1832 Credit Value: 2 GLH: 20 Unit aim: Learning utcmes The learner will: The purpse f this unit is t enable the learner t demnstrate hw t prepare the envirnment fr a series f aquatic activities, identifying and minimising any risks. This unit will als fcus n establishing and maintaining wrking relatinships, as well as safeguarding prcedures. Assessment criteria The learner can: 1.1 Ensure that the identified resurces meet the requirements f the sprt r activity 1. Be able t prepare resurces fr the caching sessin 1.2 Handle equipment safely 1.3 Set up equipment accrding t the sessin plan 1.4 Ensure the caching envirnment is safe, apprpriate and cnducive t learning fr all participant(s) 1.5 Ensure everyne invlved in the sessin has the infrmatin they need t participate 2.1 Identify existing risk assessments fr: the activities the resurces the participant(s) 2. All sessins must be drawn frm the level 2 technical syllabus develped fr aquatics. Other assessment methds, fr example questining r prfessinal discussin, may be used t assess the learner s ability where evidence has nt been bserved. There must be valid, authentic and sufficient evidence fr all the assessment criteria. These may include: bservatin and evaluatin f ther staff within the delivery team, supervisin, prfessinal discussin, standardisatin events, case reviews, research, reflective practice, mentring and attendance at cnferences. 29 Resurces Centres are respnsible fr ensuring the learning envirnments selected are apprpriate fr use in the delivery and assessment f this qualificatin. Training rm Apprpriate rms are required fr the delivery f theretical aspects f this qualificatin and shuld be large enugh t accmmdate the number f learners expected. The rm shuld have gd use f natural light, have minimal ambient nise and apprpriate temperature cntrl t prvide a cmfrtable learning envirnment. There shuld be adequate tables and chairs fr learners t be able t sit cmfrtably and undertake written wrk. Learners shuld be able t access refreshments. If it is nt pssible t prvide these facilities n site it must be clearly stated in the infrmatin prvided t the learner by the centre. The equipment needed, as a minimum, shuld be inclusive f: Flip charts (minimum f tw) with paper and pens (nt yellw) OHP/ data prjectr and prjectin screen Access t internet cnnectin Participants needed fr practical aspects f delivery shuld als be cnsidered. Centres shuld be aware f the time cnstraints regarding registratin and certificatin perids fr ASA qualificatins, as specified n the ASA website. Centres shuld fllw all administrative guidance carefully, particularly nting that fees, registratin and certificate end dates fr the qualificatin are subject t change. Registratin Learners must be registered prir t the start date f their learning prgramme. Centres shuld submit registratins using the Learner Registratin Frm t the relevant Qualificatin and Accreditatin Administratr within the ASA Awarding Bdy. Fllwing registratin, an will be issued by the ASA Awarding Bdy t the centre. This will cnfirm the Learner Registratin Frm has been received and prcessed. If there are any prblems in the registratin prcess, these will be identified and cmmunicated t the centre and will be required t be acted upn immediately. Certificatin When all assessments fr the qualificatin have been passed by the Tutr / Assessr and internally verified (externally verified prir t first certificatin claim, selected fr sampling r fllwing sanctins), learner results shuld be submitted t the ASA Awarding Bdy via cmpletin f the Learner Achievement Summary Frm. Learners successfully achieving all assessments fr this qualificatin will be issued with the ASA Level 2 Certificate in Teaching Aquatics (QCF). The qualificatin title, alng with the QCF qualificatin accreditatin number and unit titles will appear n the certificates. 32 Sectin 3: Delivering the qualificatin Initial assessment and inductin Initial assessment An initial assessment f each learner wishing t register nt this qualificatin shuld be made prir t the start f their learning prgramme. The purpse f cnducting an initial assessment fr every learner is t: Recgnise any prir learning relevant t the qualificatin Identify any supprt needs including literacy, language, numeracy and ICT skills Understand the aspiratins f the learner and their lng-term plan. The frmat and cntent f this assessment is the decisin and respnsibility f the centre. Frm this assessment the results shuld identify what supprt the centre needs t prvide r what training is required further by the learner t enable them t pursue the qualificatin. Any supprt r guidance prvided shuld be recrded within the learners individual learning prgramme. Inductin All learners shuld receive an apprpriate inductin t the prgramme t ensure they understand the requirements f the qualificatin, their respnsibilities as learners and what they shuld expect frm the Tutr and centre. Infrmatin abut the requirements f the qualificatin and the respnsibilities f the learner and centre are utlined in the supprting resurces fr this qualificatin. Learners shuld be signpsted t this infrmatin and the inductin shuld utilise this resurce. It is the centres respnsibility t ensure learners have access t adequate learning resurces (e.g. publicatins, ICT, learning technlgy) t supprt them whilst wrking twards achievement f this qualificatin. Registratin perid The perid f registratin fr this qualificatin is 18 mnths and will start frm the first day (start date) f the scheduled learning prgramme. It is expected that within these 18 mnths, learners will cmplete all aspects f the qualificatin and an applicatin fr certificatin will be made by the centre. If an extensin t registratin is required the centre shuld cntact the ASA Awarding Bdy t request this. Each applicatin will be reviewed n a case by case basis and the learners registratin, if apprved, culd be extended fr up t six mnths. 33 Access arrangements and special cnsideratins The ASA Awarding Bdy s plicy n access arrangements and special cnsideratins fr ASA qualificatins aims t enhance access t the qualificatins fr learners with disabilities and ther difficulties (as defined by the 1995 Disability Discriminatin Act and the amendments t the Act) withut cmprmising the assessment f skills, knwledge, understanding r cmpetence. Further details are prvided in the Reasnable Adjustments and Special Cnsideratins Plicy fr ASA qualificatins, which can be fund n the ASA website. Learning prgrammes The ASA Awarding Bdy will nt direct centres n hw they shuld deliver this qualificatin. It is at the centres discretin as t hw delivery f this qualificatin is managed. As lng as the requirements f the qualificatin can be met, centres have the flexibility t deliver this qualificatin in whatever way, and in as many hurs, as they deem apprpriate. When planning the learning prgramme centres must ensure the learning prgramme meets the needs and capabilities f the learner and als the learning utcmes and assessment criteria f the qualificatin. There is n requirement t deliver the units f this qualificatin in the rder they appear within the structure r within this specificatin; the qualificatin can be delivered hlistically. Therefre, as lng as centres plan an apprpriate learning prgramme that meets the qualificatin requirements as identified in the specificatin, the rder in which the units are delivered des nt matter. It is recmmended that all learners receive an inductin t the qualificatin as utlined previusly and receive sme face-t-face teaching. Ideally, learners fr this prgramme shuld als have the pprtunity t practice their delivery skills and apply the learning frm the prgramme int practice. Where accessible, centres shuld cnsider prviding infrmatin thrugh a blended learning apprach; cmbining face-t-face teaching, e-learning, self-study and/r distance learning resurces with the applied practice in the wrk envirnment. Learning envirnment It is recmmended that all centres cnsider the mst apprpriate learning envirnment fr their learners. Learners may be managed in small r large grups r as individuals; therefre it is at the discretin f the centres t determine the mst apprpriate learning envirnment. There is n set guidance abut what Tutr: Learner ratis shuld be as this can ften be determined by the space available in the learning envirnment. Centres are respnsible fr ensuring the learning envirnments selected are apprpriate fr use in the delivery and assessment f this qualificatin and shuld make an apprpriate judgement t ensure that the learning envirnment is apprpriate t the learners and is als in accrdance with apprpriate health and safety requirements.
