4 Projects Completed by JENSEN HUGHES: Fire Alarm Program Evaluation & Upgrade for Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) Fire Safety Consulting for South Terminal Complex Fire Code Consulting and Design for Airside 1 and 3

5 Challenge: The (GOAA) required an evaluation and upgrade of fire alarm systems in buildings owned on the Orlando Airport campus. Solution: JENSEN HUGHES served as the Owner s Representative, managing the survey, evaluation, recommendations, code analysis, engineering design, system specification, and cost estimating services. The project included two phases: The Fire Alarm Program Evaluation The Fire Alarm Upgrade

6 Fire Alarm Program Evaluation included the following buildings: Main Terminal Building Main Parking Garage Terminal Buildings 1, 3, & 4 This phase of the project benchmarked the existing fire alarm system protection against adopted codes and standards, with specific recommendations to allow the Airport Authority to make appropriate short and long range implementation plans.

7 Fire Alarm Upgrades included the following buildings: Main Terminal Building Airside 4 North Terminal Complex This phase of the project included the removal and replacement of existing conventional fire alarm system components with point-addressable devices and ADA-compliant appliances, and other related system alterations and additions.

8 The upgraded Fire Alarm System: Interfaces with the smoke control and HVAC control systems Provides immediate notification to a manned onsite security post Expands the public address system to become the primary means for Emergency Voice/Alarm Communications needed for evacuation

9 Challenge: To accommodate future passenger growth, the GOAA is planning a 2.2 million square foot South Terminal Complex (STC) addition. Airport fire safety consultation was needed for Phase I. Solution: JENSEN HUGHES performed fire safety consulting services for the 30% of the STC Phase I design, identifying code requirements and performing a Fire Safety Analysis.

11 The Phase I STC Addition: Will accommodate 10 million domestic and international passengers a year Estimated construction cost $385 M Designed, but not built The Fire Safety Analysis addressed: Occupancy type, building construction, fire resistance ratings, building separations, elevator and conveyance systems criteria, egress provisions, interior finish, fire department access, and identification of areas with fire suppression and fire alarm systems.

12 Challenge: In 2009, Airside 1 and Airside 3 were part of a $187 million dollar rehabilitation/hurricane restoration project at Orlando Airport. Fire engineering was needed to complete the project. Solution: JENSEN HUGHES provided fire protection system design, building and fire code consulting, and the preparation of life safety drawings for various projects.

14 The rehabilitation effort included: Modifications to the central energy plant Mechanical and electrical infrastructure upgrades Expansion of hubs New shell space for retail areas A roof skylight The airport maintained its 24 hour airline and passenger service operations during the effort. Work was scheduled so that there was no interference with airport operations.
