1 POSITION: HR Manager DATE: March 1, 2014 DEPARTMENT: HR REPORTS TO: Regional Director Human Resources ROLE: Join the HR team supporting Broadcast Media at Tribune Company. This position will serve as the HR Business Partner for 2-4 remote locations with oversight of HR-related matters for assigned stations. The HRM will be critical in establishing the company values, strategies, processes and policies related to recruitment, employee / labor relations, performance management, training and development, etc. Plays a key role in the development of functional strategy, representing the company in this knowledge area, and coordinating the needs of the employee population. Accountable for the alignment of the Human Resources strategy with the overall business strategy ensuring overall organizational and station success. Participate in key HR initiatives including staffing, performance management, compensation, development and engagement Work with centralized talent acquisition team to set and maintain standards around recruitment process. Identify recruiting needs, develop sources for qualified candidates; facilitate screening, and selection of applicants working with management Work with leaders and employees to establish and maintain a positive work environment, which encourages the full use of diverse talents and abilities; act as an employee advocate; help drive various corporate and division business initiatives Responsible for investigations, conflict resolution, employee communications and management coaching Counsel employee and management regarding employee relations issues to bring about positive resolution. Ensure management practices are consistent with all federal, state and local legislation and regulations. Provide advice and counsel to management and employees to ensure consistent application and integration of policies, procedures, and practices Provide compensation and benefit information including answering questions, directing employees to the Tribune Benefits Service Center and coordinate compensation analyses with corporate resources. Recommends, develops, implements and communicates HR policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with FCC & EEOC employment practices and applicable employment laws and regulations Provide interpretation and compliance with collective bargaining agreements and provide counsel / advice regarding concerns about contractual issues (when applicable) Creates standard and ad hoc management reports. Engage and support the leaders of multiple site populations in all employee relations, staff development and management support Bachelor s degree in human resources, industrial relations, business administration or related equivalent experience. Graduate degree in human resources management or business administration preferred with minimum 5-8 years of HR generalist experience. Experience in establishing and maintaining relationships with management and employees. The ability to communicate and champion HR & company processes is strongly desired.
2 Must have experience in a union environment and understanding the complexities of workforce within a client group which may be geographically dispersed. Ability to research, summarize, form conclusions and articulate recommendations to resolve various HR-related issues. Excellent communication, organization, facilitation and creative problem solving skills are also required. Excellent leadership, critical thinking, problem solving, project management and organizational skills. Ability to act as a change agent and lead change management initiatives and training. Innovative and creative in thinking and solutions driven. Demonstrated knowledge of applicable State and Federal employment laws and general business practices Solid business acumen. Experienced on HRIS, applicant tracking systems, and proficient in Microsoft applications. Must be flexible to work at remote location while reporting to HR leadership at a Regional office. Must be available to work evenings and weekends as necessary. Previous experience in television or entertainment industry and Union experience a plus
3 POSITION: Web Producer DATE: March 1, 2014 DEPARTMENT: News REPORTS TO: Digital Platform Manager ROLE: Web producer will oversee the creation and social distribution of unique web content for foxct.com. The producer will also work with newspaper partner, other local news sites and TV stations in Tribune Broadcasting network to promote FOX CT videos and stories. Will spot trending stories and produce and package relevant and compelling content, with emphasis on original digital video content. Web producer is well versed in social media, SEO and other tools to grow FOXCT s digital audience while increasing engagement with viewers across all platforms. Cover breaking news and ensure site has latest updates on key stories Promote FOX CT content to other news sites and aggregators to help grow our audience Identify opportunities to match FOX CT videos with content on other news sites Distribute FOX CT content through use of social media using latest and emerging tools and techniques. Spot viral, trending stories and create content stories, videos to respond in an intelligent and timely fashion Find raw video and other visual content that has the potential to go viral Create unique web content videos, Google Hangouts, Vines, etc. Be a champion for best web journalism practices and a coach to staff on producing better web content Produce periodic special enterprise projects with a focus on local news Use web metric tools such as Google Analytics to spot trends and identify opportunities for foxct.com. Bachelor's Degree in journalism Minimum of 2-3 years of web news production experience Comfortable with working on a range of content management systems. Expert in use of social media to promote and distribute news content Passion for the news and digital presentation. Curiosity about latest digital tools and a willingness to experiment with new ways to tell stories. Must be highly organized and cool under pressure. Sharp news judgment and the ability to write clearly and accurately under deadline pressure
4 POSITION: Director DATE: March 1, 2014 DEPARTMENT: Production REPORTS TO: Production Manager ROLE: Direct newscasts and other live and taped programs. RESPONSIBILITIES Serve as television director for locally produced programs including, but not limited to: Newscasts; Public Affairs programs; Lottery Drawings; and live events, such as The MDA Telethon, etc Manage and supervise technical crew during pre-production sessions. Code the daily newscast for Ross OverDrive. Prepare show rundowns with camera blocking for floor crew. Direct and switch shows as assigned, using Ross OverDrive. Coordinate with show producers during development and scriptwriting. Provide creative and technical feedback to production manager and art department to facilitate show graphic and animation creation. Complete technical reports after each newscast. May be asked to perform other production responsibilities such as Robotics, Audio, Jib, etc Other duties as assigned. Minimum two years of directing live and taped long format programs, with at least one year directing live newscasts. Ability to switch your own shows a plus. Experience with: Ross Vision Switcher and OverDrive, Grass Valley switchers/ignite, Sony Digital switcher and DVE s a must; Digital video servers or equivalent, Vinten Robotic Cameras, and VIZ RT or equivalent. Familiarity with ENPS newsroom computer system desirable. Demonstrated ability to supervise technical crews. Experience with Live Remote Broadcasts a plus. Flexible working weekends and holidays required
5 WTIC/WCCT - TV POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION: Production Technician DATE: March 1, 2014 DEPARTMENT: News Production REPORTS TO: News Production Supervisor ROLE: Serve in a variety of production crew positions during live and taped, studio and remote productions Operate robotic, studio, and remote cameras Perform floor manager duties during live and taped productions Operate teleprompter Operate tape machines for both playback and record Operate Jib camera and Steadi cam Assist in set and light of both studio and remote projects Regular maintenance of studio facilities and remote equipment Other duties as assigned by the Production Manager Minimum 1 year studio and/or remote production experience with a broadcast or production facility Demonstrated ability to perform all responsibilities for both live and taped productions Knowledge of studio lighting techniques desirable EOE
6 TRIBUNE BROADCASTING POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION: Captioning Assistant DATE: March 1, 2014 DEPARTMENT: Closed Captioning Center REPORTS TO: Closed Captioning Supervisor ROLE: Operate a real-time voice captioning system and associated technical equipment to perform real-time English caption of live programs. Full-time and part-time positions are non-exempt. Tribune Broadcasting s Closed Captioning Center will be located in Hartford at CT1-Media home of FOX CT (WTIC TV), The CT (WCCT TV), The Hartford Courant, The Hartford Advocate, The New Haven Advocate, Fairfield County Weekly s and Valumail. RESPONSIBILITIES Multi-task (hear audio, voice what was heard, proof-read developing captions - all simultaneously). Utilize a keyboard by typing proper corrections and other words as necessary. Maintain Closed Captioning Center quality standards for accuracy and speed. Work specified on-call schedule, in addition to regular schedule. Ability to sit, hear, talk, use hands and fingers. Specific vision abilities include close vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Must be punctual, dependable, flexible and possess a team attitude and willingness to adapt to last-minute changes to programming and industry that runs 24/7/365. Other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor s degree preferred) Broadcast captioning experience desirable but not required Must be at least 18 years of age Knowledge of Caption Mic or Eclipse Captioning Software highly desirable Excellent reading and grammar skills Strong voicing skills/voice quality ability to speak quickly with clear enunciation Excellent spelling/vocabulary Strong memory-recall ability Ability to handle multiple tasks while focusing on a high amount of attention to detail Calm/relaxed demeanor Comfortable and familiar with computers and new technology Ability to perform under pressure with changing priorities Ability to work flexible shifts (AM, PM, Weekends) STATEMENT ABOUT OTHER DUTIES: This is not necessarily an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, duties, requirements, efforts or working conditions associated with the job. 7 POSITION: Producer/ News Writer DATE: March 1, 2014 DEPARTMENT: News REPORTS TO: Assistant News Director ROLE: Produce a creative, non-stop newscast using all the resources that the FOX CT s full HD studios have to offer. Produce creative newscast determining story selection and stacking Write copy for one hour newscasts and assign copy to associate producers and anchors Be well informed about current events; read newspapers, follow Twitter, Facebook and social media daily Accurately time the newscast Coordinate editing of stories and special projects Print scripts Select sound bites and video for use in news stories and on-line Suggest and produce franchise reports and sweeps stories Read newspapers, competitive websites and follow social media daily Work with Anchors, Weather, and Sports teams Other duties as assigned Ability to write clear, compelling broadcast copy Previous experience as a broadcast news producer Ability to remain calm under deadline pressure Bachelor s Degree in Journalism required Good attitude and team player
8 POSITION: Multimedia Journalist DATE: March 1, 2014 DEPARTMENT: News REPORTS TO: Assistant New Director ROLE: Responsible for reporting, shooting and editing video news stories and producing still content from video for use in print and on-line. Regularly conducts interviews both live and pre-taped, appears on camera and on-line via streaming video when applicable, writes own material, takes ownership of story from start to finish. Shoot, edit, write and produce news stories including vo s vo/sot s and packages Capture and edit stills from video for newspaper and on-line use Report news stories on camera; conduct interviews both live and pre-taped Establish and maintain news contacts in the community Must be able to carry 50 lbs. of equipment (camera, tripod, lighting and audio equipment) Must be able to perform live shots on very short notice Must be able to work under pressure Drive and maintain company vehicles Care and maintenance of company equipment Suggest story ideas Read newspapers, competitive websites and follow social media daily Produce content for CT1 Media platforms Attend community events Position requires performance of other job-related duties as assigned Bachelors Degree preferred Two years news experience in broadcast or print Must have valid driver s license and good driving record Experience in shooting and editing stories on a daily deadline basis Familiarity with Final Cut Pro a plus Must be able to produce compelling video and still products that tell a story Effective writer in Broadcast, Print and On-line mediums Able to appear live in a broadcast or on-line to deliver reports in a professional and effective manner Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, have a good attitude and be a team player, all under deadline pressure Must be flexible and willing to change and learn new skills Must be able to work alone or as part of a team Varied Schedule: Usually 8-hour workday, 5 days a week; may be required to work additional hours or days including nights, weekends and holidays
9 POSITION: Photographer/Truck Operator Date: March 1, 2014 DEPARTMENT: News REPORTS TO: Director of Integrated Photography ROLE: Gather news stories on video. Shoot and edit video for award winning newscasts including packages, Vo s/vosots and natural sound packages. Additional focus on still frames and caption information for our websites and our media partner, The Hartford Courant. Set up for live shots on very short notice. Run an ENG live truck. Helpful if you can run SNG truck. Drive and maintain news vehicles. Suggest story ideas. Read newspapers, competitive websites and follow social media daily. Other duties as assigned.
