21 Physical planning!! Proximity so that people can walk and bike! The optimal city thus has a radius of 5 km. This means proximity a city built for people (children, elderly people,...) Let the city grow inwards by compacting it

23 Encourage more people to cycle to work In Umeå, approximately 2/3 of all cycle trips under 5 km are journeys to school, work or recreation. In Denmark 60% of journeys to work are made by bicycle. 42 Underground heating The main reason for underground heating is traffic safety. Surfaces that are difficult to maintain (risk of major damage to sensitive surfaces) There are approximately 33,000 sqm of undergroundheated surfaces in Umeå. The cost per sqm is approximately SEK 300.

43 Injury figures from the traffic data report A traffic data report is drawn up every two years. Winter cycling congress The report shows where in the municipality most injuries occur divided into motor vehicle accidents, bicycle accidents and pedestrian accidents. The report forms the basis for where extra monitoring is necessary. One major accident risk is the gritting sand that is still lying on asphalted surfaces in the spring. Many accidents are caused by skidding on this loose grit. To reduce the accident risk the gritting sand is swept up as soon as possible.
