Prior to that, he practiced medicine for 5 years in South Africa and the United Kingdom. He holds degrees in medicine and science from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa and an MBA from the University of Southampton, UK. Gary L. Filerman, Professor, Health Systems Administration, Georgetown University Gary L. Filerman, Ph.D., is Professor of Health Systems Administration at Georgetown University, where he led the formation of the departments of international health and health systems administration. His teaching and research interests are private sector development, quality of care, global health standards and managerial competency development. For 28 years Dr. Filerman led global efforts to develop health care administration as a profession. He has served as a consultant in thirty-five countries in collaboration with IFC, the World Bank, PAHO, USAID and several foundations. He is currently an adviser to Joint Commission International. The Filerman Prize is the highest recognition for scholarship and leadership in health administration education. His Ph.D. and Master's degrees in Health Services Administration and Latin American Government are from the University of Minnesota.

Chris McCahan, Principal Investment Officer, Health and Education Department, IFC Chris McCahan is a Principal Investment Officer with the Health and Education Department of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group. For the last 10 years with IFC Chris has appraised, structured and led negotiations for complex and innovative transactions in many parts of the world, including within the Asian healthcare sector. Prior to his investment work in private health care, Chris led investments in other real sectors, primarily within the Latin America region.
