2 124. ENROLLMENT AND PARTICIPATION IN ISD CYBER SUPPORT PROGRAM - Pg. 2 Enrollment Process SC 1327 Students interested in participating in the Cyber Support Program must complete the following enrollment procedure in its entirety prior to beginning cyber course work: 1. The student and parent(s)/guardian(s) meet with the school guidance counselor to initiate enrollment. At this meeting, the guidance counselor will review prior attendance and academic progress of the student. Special education students cannot be enrolled in the cyber support program without an IEP team recommendation. 2. Complete and submit the online application available on the district s web site. 3. The student and parent(s)/guardian(s) meet with the administration and guidance counselor to review the enrollment application and the online application. The appropriateness of the program will be determined at this meeting. 4. Once the administration grants approval of the application, the student must meet with the school guidance counselor to prepare an Individually Designed Cyber Program (IDCP) that defines the courses to be taken, the credits to be attempted, the deadlines for completion, the description of adequate weekly progress for each course and the schedule to maintain contact with the cyber liaison for the district. 5. The parent(s)/guardian(s), student, and administration agree to and sign the IDCP. 6. The student meets with cyber liaison to establish cyber services with IU 5 and to enroll in courses as noted in the IDCP. 7. The student begins full participation in the cyber support program in accordance with the IDCP. Student Responsibility The IDCP for each student will describe the percentage of assignments to be completed weekly and/or applicable deadlines. 3 124. ENROLLMENT AND PARTICIPATION IN ISD CYBER SUPPORT PROGRAM - Pg. 3 If there is a technology issue with a computer leased from the IU, the student needs to immediately contact the IU to resolve the issue. A technology issue is not an excuse to stop work. Students must work with the guidance counselor and cyber liaison to find an alternative until the problem is resolved. Attendance Requirements SC 1327 To be successful in any educational program, the student MUST, on a daily basis, work to accomplish the requirements of each course in order to receive credit for the course. Students are required to demonstrate adequate weekly progress as outlined in their Individually Designed Cyber Program (IDCP). Failure to do so may result in a re-evaluation of placement, truancy proceedings, and removal from the cyber support program at the discretion of administration. Failure to make adequate weekly progress is equivalent to five (5) days of absence. If a student is unable to maintain adequate weekly progress as outlined in the IDCP the parent(s)/guardian(s) must submit a written excuse to the cyber liaison within three (3) days of the occurrence. Failure to submit this excuse will result in the absence being considered unexcused and/or unlawful. After the first occurrence of failure to make adequate weekly progress, a written notice will be sent to the parent(s)/guardian(s). This notice shall notify the parent(s)/guardian(s) that the student has accumulated the equivalent five (5) days of absences. Following the accumulation of two (2) occurrences of failure to achieve adequate weekly progress (equivalent to ten (10) days of absence), a written notice will be sent to the parent(s)/guardian(s) stating that the district will require a written physician s excuse for each subsequent occurrence. Failure to submit written excuses as required will cause the student s absence to be declared unexcused or unlawful/illegal: 1. After the first unlawful/unexcused absence, the parent(s)/guardian(s) will receive a notice of unlawful/unexcused absence from the district. 2. After the second unlawful/unexcused absence, the parent(s)/guardian(s) will receive a notice of unlawful/unexcused absence from the district. The parent(s)/guardian(s) are required to contact the guidance counselor to schedule an appointment to prepare a truancy elimination plan for the student which may include revision of the student s IDCP. 4 124. ENROLLMENT AND PARTICIPATION IN ISD CYBER SUPPORT PROGRAM - Pg Any further occurrences of failure to maintain adequate weekly progress will result in a truancy citation filed with the Magisterial District Judge for students under the age of seventeen (17). 4. Students seventeen (17) and over who accumulate two (2) occurrences of failure to meet adequate weekly progress, are required to meet with the administration. The appropriateness of the cyber support program will be reviewed. The student may be required to return to the traditional school setting. Students who accumulate two (2) consecutive occurrences may be withdrawn from the district. Cyber Support Required Meetings All students enrolled in the Cyber Support Program are required to schedule monthly meetings that include the cyber liaison and guidance counselor to discuss and track progress as well as to note concerns. Failure to schedule and participate in these monthly meetings indicates that the student is not meeting the requirement of the program and could face removal from the program. A student that requires help in a particular course should contact their online instructor, district faculty or guidance counselor. Computer problems should be directed to the Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit. All other questions should be directed to the school guidance counselor. PSSA Participation Sec Students in specific grades are required to participate in the PSSA testing each school year. Any Student in the program who is in a grade level required to participate in PSSA testing is required to complete the test at the school according to a schedule devised and communicated by the guidance counselor. Academic Dishonesty If a student is caught cheating, the student will be removed from the course and receive a failing grade.
