1 NEWCASTLE-UNDER-LYME COLLEGE JOB DESCRIPTION MARKETING & PR MANAGER SALARY: 35,000-40,000 Responsible to: Responsible for: Director of Human Resources & Communications developing a creative marketing & PR strategy which is delivered with flair and which establishes NULC as the College of first choice within North Staffordshire. Duties: 1. To oversee the development and delivery of a cycle of offline and online marketing and communications activities to attract, convert and retain target numbers of learners in line with the College s strategic plan. 2. To lead the promotion and further development of the NuLC brand and the communication of the College s strategic aims to key stakeholders in Newcastle and across North Staffordshire. 3. To ensure that all recruitment and marketing activities are informed by market research and data analysis relating to key target groups and to lead the development of all resultant student recruitment communications, publications and marketing activity to support the achievement of recruitment and income targets. 4. To critically evaluate the design, content and functionality of the College website and social media sites and to ensure that the College derives maximum benefit from these communication sources. 5. To put in place appropriate contingency plans to anticipate and respond to negative or crisis publicity regarding the College; to lead the communication of news in the event of a critical incident on college premises and to act as a designated college spokesperson as required. 6. To contribute to the planning and execution of all major College events and to ensure that all College events are planned and delivered in a manner consistent with our aims and ambitions. 7. To establish productive relationships with Heads of Faculty and other managers from across the College to ensure that they have the Marketing & PR support necessary to achieve their targets and that there is a steady supply of case studies, news stories and alumni information to better promote the College as a whole.

2 8. To act as a quality control point for all external and internal communications. 9. To ensure that all marketing and publicity material reflects the diversity of the College and fulfils its obligations and commitments to promote equality and diversity as set out within the Single Equality Scheme. 10. To act as line manager to the staff within the Marketing & PR function and to provide strategic leadership and direction to both areas. 11. To encourage and promote the professional development of staff in the department. 12. To manage the College marketing budget in accordance with the Financial Regulations. 11. To oversee the procurement of all advertising and promotional collateral on behalf of the College. 12. To manage relationships with external marketing and advertising agencies to secure effective return on investment. 15. To develop a rigorous approach to the measurement of all activity to inform decisions and future plans and report on key measures of success. 16. To serve as a member of the Core Planning Team and to take on cross- College responsibilities as required by the Senior Management Team. 17. To be aware of, and ensure compliance with, the College policies and procedures relating to Safeguarding, Equality & Diversity and Health & Safety. Salary and Conditions All staff are employees of the College Corporation who determine conditions of service in negotiation with recognised trade unions. The salary will be in the range 35,000-40,000. The salary is payable on 27 th of each calendar month or the working day before if it falls on a nonworking day by direct credit transfer into a bank/building society of your choice. The post is pensionable and a deduction of 6.8% is made from salary. Appointments are provisional until medical clearance is obtained, and this may require the person appointed to pass a medical examination.

3 It is the policy of the College to approach referees candidates short-listed for interview if consent has been given on the application form. It is also College policy to approach a candidate s current or most recent employer for a reference. Where the candidate is working in the education sector a reference will be sought from the appropriate Principal, Headteacher or Vice Chancellor. The appointment is subject to satisfactory references and appropriate checks with the Criminal Records Bureau together with a probationary period of six months. The hours of duty are 37 hours per five-day week. A system of flexi time is in operation. Annual holiday entitlement will be 35 days per year, plus bank holidays and other statutory holidays. Holidays are normally taken out of term time. Applicants are required to disclose in writing if they are related to any senior member of the corporation. A degree or equivalent in a marketingrelated discipline. Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Is an experienced marketing and PR professional. At least 3 years recent relevant experience in an educational setting. Successful track record for planning and implementing PR campaigns in local/regional print and broadcast media. Experience of using a variety of digital marketing /communications tools. Well-established relationships with local journalists in the North Staffs area, Has interpersonal, motivational and communication skills of the highest order. Exceptional writing and proof-reading skills demonstrating good grammatical style. Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships at all levels and across the College. Experience of leading and line managing a team of staff. Ability to influence and persuade others. July 2013
