The proceedings of the meetings may not be published, nor communicated to any person except by direct negotiation with, and agreement of, the Nutrition Society. Original Communications: Abstract submission deadline: 3 April Abstracts of Original Communications must be submitted on-line using the electronic submission form available in the Irish Section Meetings page at Completion of this form includes electronic submission of copyright and (for student members) confirmation of supervisor s support. Original Communications should comply with current guidelines and must be attached to the submission form, during the submission process. The programme of Original Communications and the unedited abstracts of Communications accepted for this meeting will be available on the Society s website: The printed Original Communications programme and abstract booklet will be distributed at registration. 2
3 GENERAL INFORMATION Venue: Queen s University Belfast, University Road, Belfast BT7 1NN. Symposium, Oral and Poster Communications will be held in the Peter Froggatt Centre (main site, University Road, Belfast) in lecture theatre G07 and rooms 209 and 210 ( Meeting Registration: The Registration desk will be situated in the foyer of the Peter Froggatt Centre. The desk will be open from 9.00 am on Wednesday 17 until Friday 19 June. Admission: Entry to scientific sessions is limited to badge wearers. Tickets will be issued for meals and functions and must be presented for admission. Presentation Format: Facilities will be available for PowerPoint presentations. Any other presentation needs can only be catered for if speakers request in advance. Facilities will be available to preview presentations in G07 prior to the sessions. Speakers are requested to present their saved presentations (saved as PowerPoint presentation format ) to the projection staff at least 20 minutes in advance of the session in which they are speaking and to collect them immediately after the session. Editorial Desk: The Editorial Desk will be situated in the foyer of the Peter Froggatt Centre throughout the meeting. It is imperative that the presenting authors of each and every communication meets with one of the Editors after their presentation to discuss any technical changes required to make their Original Communication acceptable for publication in the Proceedings of the Nutrition Society; failure to do so will result in the Original Communication not being published. In addition, members attending the presentation may request during the discussion, with the approval of the meeting, alteration or addition to the scientific content. Student Bursaries: Student members of the Nutrition Society presenting Original Communications who are attending for the full duration of the meeting will be eligible for a bursary of 40 (max). Those eligible should deduct the appropriate sum from their total cost when returning the booking form. Student Competition: A prize of 100 will be awarded to the best presenter in each of the oral and poster categories. Business Meetings: The AGM of the Irish Section of the Nutrition Society will be held at hrs on Thursday 18 June 2009 in lecture theatre G07, Peter Froggatt Centre, Queen s University Belfast. 3
4 Travel By plane: There are two airports serving Belfast: George Best Belfast City Airport is two miles from the city centre. A taxi from the airport to Queen s will cost approximately 8. There is also a frequent Airport Express 600 bus service to the city centre and its main bus and rail stations ( Belfast International Airport is 19 miles north of Belfast. The Airport Express 300 bus service, operating at ten-minute frequency during peak hours, connects with the city centre, and is operated by Ulsterbus. The journey time is approximately 30 minutes and a single fare is 6. The route terminates at the Europa Bus Centre on Great Victoria Street. A taxi from the Bus Centre to the residence halls at Stranmillis University College costs approx 5-6. A taxi directly from Belfast International Airport to the University will cost approximately 25 ( By ferry: A number of ferry operators offer services across the Irish Sea to and from the Belfast Port in the centre of the city (Stena Line, Norse Merchant Ferries) or Larne Harbour (P&O European Ferries), which is 20 miles north of Belfast. Belfast Port can be reached by bus or taxi. There are bus and rail connections to Belfast from Larne. By rail: Those arriving by train to Belfast Central Station should take a taxi to their accommodation or the University, costing approx 4 (5-10 minutes) ( By road: The University is located in South Belfast on University Road. Car parking is restricted to on-street parking around the main campus and is very limited unless arriving early (8am). Car parking is available at the accommodation listed below (Stranmillis University College and the Malone Lodge Hotel), which are both within walking distance of the Peter Froggatt Centre. Taxis: For those wishing to book taxis some local taxi firms are: Fon-a-Cab + 44 (0) and Value cabs +44 (0) Accommodation: Halls of residence at Stranmillis University College - The College lies a short distance (10 minute walk) from the main campus at Queen s; taxis can also be easily ordered (phone numbers given above). The rooms at Stranmillis are grouped together in self-contained flats, which are separated into female-only and male-only provision. Towels are provided. Kitchen facilities are available on each floor, and a full cooked breakfast is served in the restaurant. Cost per person per night for an ensuite room (rate includes breakfast). Reservation requests are subject to availability. Keys are available from the Halls Office between 9am and 5pm. Anyone arriving later than 5pm may collect their room keys from the security staff at the front gate. If arriving by taxi at the college, do not alight at the front gate; request that the taxi driver take you to the halls of residence, which are further onto the campus. The Malone Lodge Hotel (4 star) is located on Eglantine Avenue, Belfast and is a 5 minute walk from the main Queen s campus ( Reservation requests are subject to availability. Room Prices: 85 standard double room, 110 executive room. 4
5 Please note that whilst the organisers will arrange accommodation at the above locations for the duration of the conference, delegates wishing to arrive early and/or stay after the conference should make their own arrangements for additional accommodation. The Northern Ireland Tourist Board can provide advice regarding accommodation in Belfast ( or Meals: Tea/coffee and lunch on Wednesday 17 June through Friday 19 June will be served in the foyer of the Peter Froggatt Centre, University Road, Belfast. The céilí on Wednesday 17 June will be held in The Great Hall at Queen s University Belfast and will be preceded by a drinks reception in the Naughton Gallery. The conference banquet on Thursday 18 June will be held in Deanes at Queens (just a few minutes walk from the conference venue), 1 College Gardens, Belfast, BT9 6BQ ( Travel Maps, Tourist Information: Travel information and maps of Belfast and the University campus will be sent with the acknowledgement of booking.
