2 2 IRELAND WJJF/WJJKO +44 (0) Foreword Visit Belfast is delighted to present Belfast as a destination for World Jujitsu Last year, we welcomed almost 8 million visitors to our city and we d love to welcome you in WJJF Ireland were competent hosts of a spectacular event in 2003 when they hosted the Titanic Congress, with over 200 International guests, in the region of 1000 students catered for at an exceptional Training course and an amazing World Record Break by Master Jean-Yves Mulot. Read on for some background on our beautiful city of Belfast, in which we propse to host the event. The Financial Times recently listed Belfast as one of the Top 10 places in the world to host a conference and TripAdvisor users have just voted the city as one of the Top 10 destinations on the rise across Europe. But in many ways, Belfast is still the UK s best kept secret so we are pleased to have the opportunity to present our city as a potential destination for the World Jujitsu Congress. Enclosed in this proposal are details of potential event venues, information on access and costs as well as ideas for unique and interesting social programmes. Access We have direct access to 22 cities across the UK and a further 42 European and International destinations. In peak season, we have 35 flights a day between Belfast and London between our two airports. Most fares are generally less than rail travel when booked in advance. Compact and walkable Belfast is a capital city but feels like a small town. All main venues, hotels and attractions are all within a 10 minutes walk and there is no need for coaching and transfers. 4 4 IRELAND WJJF/WJJKO +44 (0) Belfast City Hall Belfast City Hall Donegall Square BT1 5GS Built in 1906 the interior of this opulent Victorian building is breathtaking and a splendid setting for welcoming conference delegates to the city. Due to the central location of the City Hall, transport hire is not necessary. The majority of the city centre hotels are within 2-3 minute walking distance from Belfast City Hall. You can have a tour of the City Hall & you can also request the Lord Mayor who will officially welcome delegates to the city.

5 5 IRELAND WJJF/WJJKO +44 (0) Antrim Forum World-class training with top international coaches, in an excellent facility Antrim Forum Leisure Centre is a short 30mins coach ride from our accommodation & it is nestled in the quaint historic town of Antrim with various things of interest nearby. The centre boasts a large 36 x 36 m training hall along with a second training area. There is a well equipped Spa on site and a Soft play area for any mums/kids who aren t training. (Need to be booked via the Forum.) Our training package for international guests includes a two hour course on Saturday & the option to train/coach on Sunday in a specialist course at the Europa Hotel

7 7 IRELAND World Ju-Jitsu Federation +44 (0) Unusual Social Experiences There will be the unique opportunity to take a tour of Crumlin Gaol, which dates back to 1845 and has an astonishing history which makes it quite fascinating. A small number of prisoners made their escape from The Crum as it is known locally & one of the tours retraces this escape. Said to be one of the most haunted buildings in Belfast, it is also famed for its Paranormal investigations. [optional extra - booked on arrival] Crumlin Road Gaol

8 8 IRELAND WJJF/WJJKO +44 (0) Crumlin Road Gaol Crumlin Road Gaol Crumlin Road Belfast BT14 6ST The Crumlin Road Gaol dates back to 1845 and closed its doors as a working prison in After extensive renovations the gaol has re opened as a visitor attraction and conference centre. Today you can take a guided tour of the prison and hear about the history of the site from when women and children were held within its walls through to the political segregation of republican and loyalist prisoners and learn about why the decision was taken to close the prison. You will be taken by your tour guide to visit the underground tunnel that used to connect the gaol to the Crumlin Road Courthouse, you will get a chance to sit in the Governor's chair, view all the wings from the circle and of course pay a visit to the condemned man s cell before seeing the execution cell where the majority of the 17 men were hanged. Tours of the gaol can be tailored to suit your event, so that your guests can enjoy even a brief taste of the history and stories of the venue. which can accommodate up to 175 delegates, with a gallery that accommodates an additional 30 delegates. The Forbes boardroom, Governor's Corridor, Pierpoint Room, Circle and C Wing and the Tunnel are all available, along with the IT Suite, education room and several comfortable breakout rooms and reception areas. The exercise yards can also accommodate several hundred in marquees or open air. Full catering facilities are available onsite. We have two airports, one right in the heart of the city and another just 25 minutes away. It only takes an hour to fly here from the UK and we fly to 22 UK Airports including London which has over 179 flights a week. Rise Sculpture

15 15 IRELAND WJJF/WJJKO Access to Belfast - International George Best Belfast City Airport is located 3 miles from Belfast City Centre, taking 5 minutes by taxi. Belfast International Airport is 20 minutes away, with both airprorts having direct shuttle services into the city centre. Once you have arrived in Belfast, the city centre is easy to get to. George Best Belfast City Airport is only a 10 minute drive into the centre with a taxi costing approximately 8; whilst International Airport is a 25 minute drive costing around 20 by taxi. Both airports are serviced by excellent bus services directly into the city centre. *NB As a lot of the direct flights only operate seasonally - we find Skyscanner.net a useful tool to plan your route. 17 17 WJJF/WJJKO The dojo Martial Arts and Fitness Centre is a community interest company, where all the profits go back into the running of the centre for the good of the students and the community. This is also headquarters for World Ju-Jitsu Federation in Ireland, which is headed up by Shihan David Toney, 7 th Dan, National Coach for Ireland, assisted by his wife Anne Toney. The dojo is a Centre of Excellence for our Training Programme for Coaches and for Black Belt gradings in the country & we are recognised by the governing body for the Sport in N. Ireland: The Northern Ireland Ju-Jitsu Association. We are ably supported by an excellent team of volunteers and by a committee of Senior Coaches.
