With the establishment of the new Organization for Scientific Area Committees (OSAC) to develop standards and guidelines for the forensic science community to improve quality and consistency of work in the forensic science community, I feel that ASCLD/LAB s continued presence in each of the committees and subcommittees is key. In my experience, ASCLD/LAB and specifically Laurel Farrell for Forensic Toxicology, has been very useful and a key resource that we are utilizing. I hope that this is a similar experience for the other subcommittee, and if it is not I believe that it should be in the coming year. ASCLD/LAB is key player in the accrediting of forensic laboratories and has had decades of experience to draw from. This knowledge and experience can assist us through the OSAC initiate. Another area is continuity of standard interpretation between laboratories and assessors. I have spent my entire career assisting, developing and implementing quality systems via various accrediting bodies including ASCLD/LAB-International, ASCLD/LAB-Legacy, American Board of Forensic Toxicology, the College of American Pathologists, and the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation. Many similarities exist between these organizations, but one of the most difficult issue is the lack of consistency between laboratories interpretation of standards that are accredited by the same organization. From my interaction with ASCLD/LAB I believe that they acknowledge this issue and try for assessor consistency.

3 Resources, including training opportunities, for laboratories on standard interpretation and implementation would be useful. I have been impressed with the quality of training offered by ASCLD/LAB and I think this type of training would be well received. Additional Information: (Include any additional information that voters should consider when making their decision) Instilling the importance of quality assurance, quality control, quality management systems (QMS), and laboratory accreditation to young and future forensic scientists is extremely important. I believe it is key to ensure that the work that is being accomplished with the Organization of Scientific Area Committees (OSAC), Forensic Science Standards Board, National Commission on Forensic Sciences as well as all the accrediting bodies that service the forensic community not only continues, but thrives. As a forensic educator it is my duty to provide these young scientists a strong foundation that includes the importance of QMS and laboratory accreditation. As a public member of the ASCLD/LAB Board of Directors I feel that I can bring a diverse background including my quality management experience, practical experience in the laboratory, and as an educator, that will all benefit the board. Conversely, my experience as a public member will make me a more impactful educator and contributor to my work with the OSAC.

7 HIGHLIGHTED CAREER MOMENTS Bridge Program, Management Development Institute- Tarrant County s Management Development Institute (MDI) Bridge program, is an 18-month program which is designed to help employees develop the leadership competencies viewed as critical to the continued success of Tarrant County and learn the skills needed to better compete for the next level of leadership. The Bridge Program offers employees who have demonstrated exemplary performance and leadership qualities, an opportunity to work with their managers to identify their potential for growth and broaden their skills and experience. I am a goal oriented and results motivated individual who has strived for continual self-improvement. These qualities have been recognized by Tarrant County and seen as important qualities to have in leadership positions and was able to be one of a select group of individuals invited to join this program. Quality Control I have been able to apply my skills (Development of Quality Systems, Root Cause Analysis, Corrective and Preventive Actions, Internal Auditing, Management Reviews, Method Validation) as a Quality Manager at the Tarrant County Medical Examiner s Office and as a member of the QA/QC team at the FAA to help laboratories develop Quality Systems. Use of these skills has allowed me to smoothly transition the laboratories from ASCLD/LAB Legacy to ASCLD/LAB ISO 17025, obtain laboratory accreditation from the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA), and develop quality systems for other accrediting bodies.
