I received my masters and doctorate education from the Smith College School of Social Work, followed by years in community mental health crisis work and then as a family therapist at The Austen Riggs Center in Stockbridge Ma. I have always focused my education, training, and practice on relationship dynamics and social communication skill building in families and couples. Propelled by a personal parenting experience, I have recently developed an interest and skills in the treatment of social communication challenges that appear common in ASD diagnoses for children, teens, and young adults. Mount Tom Center for Mental Health and Recovery (Program of the Behavioral Health Network) is a community based licensed outpatient mental health and substance abuse program providing on-site and outreach services to the community. Master and Doctoral level staffs provide services in the following areas: child and adolescent, adult, developmentally delayed/mental health, substance abuse and dual diagnosis (SA/MI). The Clinic will serve toddlers,young children, and adolescents. Also offers an ongoing parent training series. The eight-session series is designed for parents of children newly diagnosed with an ASD. The goal of these sessions is to offer education and guidance to parents about diagnosis, treatment approaches, and community resources. When a child is diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), the entire family is affected. Our ASD Clinic offers counseling and support to families of children with autism. These services help families as they cope with issues such as stress, grief, depression, and anxiety, which are commonly experienced by families following a diagnosis. We also help families to develop essential skills, such as time management and positive coping, so that they can better manage complicated lives. The National Autism Center offers Pathways, an educational series designed for parents of children and adolescents diagnosed with an ASD. The series provides critical information about ASD diagnosis, treatment options, and services.
