THE NORWEGIAN SOLUTION Location - Lefdal Mine Conditions in Norway are conducive to Norway becoming a superpower for green datacenters. 100 % renewable energy at a leading price level in Europe and free cooling makes Lefdal Mine extremely cost effective. Add excellent infrastructure, stability, high competence and extrem space and you have - solution! Scalability and Flexibility Mine - Extreme space Leading ICT competence Flexible - Full range of technical solutions Cost Effective Leading energy prices in Europe Free cooling Cost leadership on space Low operational costs Leading Connectivity in Norway Large amount of fiber routes to Europe World leading IT infrastructure Multiple vendors and redundant fiber connections Stability Limited Risk Geological and political stability The Government supports the industry Safe framework for doing business Unique Cooling Technology Cold seawater - proximity to fjord 20-30% improvement over leading designs in Europe Certified by IBM Green Energy 100 % renewable energy Surplus production of 6,7 Twh Government The project has been funded by the Ministry of Governmental Administration and Reform and by Innovation Norway. Lefdal Mine is also supported by the Ministry of Trade and Industry. The Government together with the industry recognizes that Norway is about to become a leading global player within the area of data handling. Lefdal Mine - IBM has conducted an independent analysis and validation of concept for Lefdal Mine. It is their considered opinion that the Lefdal Mine represents a unique opportunity to provide a high security data centre facility with leading edge operational performance and running costs. IBM has signed a letter of intent with Lefdal Mine.

Lefdal Mine Ground breaking way of storing data! The Future Is Here m2 Cost Effective Unique Security The World s largest datacenter! The scalability is unique. Today the mine consists of 5 levels. solution will offer customers world leading efficiency with highly competitive prices on energy and space. The data centre is an underground facility with leading infrastructure with redundant fiber, power and communication networks m2 floor area - height of roof 19 meters Current structure m2 white space In the future one can expand to 14 levels Spaces can be tailor made to customers needs Quick adjustment of floor space Road systems allowing trucks all the way in Maximum flexibility - all technologies possible Leading Cooling solution Proximity to fjord meters deep Stable supply of seawater at 8 degrees Celcius Year round stable underground climate European leading price level for energy 6,7 TW local surplus production of renewable energy Customers requested tier level Very low construction and overhead costs Cost leadership on space High-level security and access control In house security personnel Biometrics, sensors and constant monitoring Seperate personal entrance with monorail Leading competence and infrastructure Resilience - IBM Tier 3+ Facility Management team - 24/7/365 Natural EMP protection Extreme low risk of natural disasters World leading disaster recovery

100 % renewable energy Our energy: Leading Green Conditions in Norway are conducive to Norway becoming a superpower for green datacenters! The IT industry today consumes more than 10% of all electricity in the world. The industry is responsible for 2 % of the carbon emissions. Lefdal Mine and the Norwegian has the ability to change this picture and make the IT industry an environmental leader in the future. Production method: Hydro and wind Free cooling - cold seawater Low energy consumption Short traveled energy CO2-neutral - 0 carbon emission Current site capacity wind: 22 MW Available area capacity: 6,7 TW surplus production

Leading Infrastructure Cooling Connectivity Power The unique cooling solution offers 20-30% improvement over current leading edge designs operational or under construction in Europe. It is based on seawater as cooling source through a heat exchanger for a closed fresh water circuit that cools computers via the integrated cold air radiators. The seawater is picked up at 200 meters below sea level with a constant temperature of 8 degrees Celsius. The effect is based on the seawater leaving the facility of 12 degrees Celsius. The respective freshwater effect is 18 degrees in and 30 degrees out. Network access is currently supplied by two providers with separate infrastructures. A third provider will soon be available. Both current suppliers can deliver multiple fiber runs of capacity from national commercial access points (NIX, BIX), and to the nearby UNINETT connection points. Both suppliers have redundant paths to the local distribution point. Several hydropower plants in the vicinity of Lefdal Mine provide a redundant power feed, and the possibility to provide the mine with sufficient power for any foreseeable future. The total power production in the area is presently 12,7 TWh (renewable) which of 6,7 TWh is surplus production being exported out of the area. The current power supply has a statistical reliability of 99.97%, which is consistent with Tier-3 requirements.

Flexibility - Tailormade for customer needs Products Customised solutions Dedicated concrete buildings Tier rating/security Containers Power density Dedicated Data Halls Ambient temperatures Shelters Humidity Dual site - single location Operational equipment

Dedicated Concrete building Data Center Structure The formation of the mine is laid out so that the spiral road provides direct access to each floor level. Each floor level consists of a central access road - Avenue. The Avenue provides direct access to the chambers where data will be stored - Streets. Each Street is physically separated for security and fire reasons. The operational benfits in Lefdal Mine are unique!
