Conducted teacher and student interviews, surveys and classroom observations/field notes. My project consisted of researching deficit thinking and analyzing its effect in urban schools. After understanding how it affects schools, I decided to try creating an Anti- Deficit Pedagogy that includes effective teaching strategies that can combat against deficit thinking. My research led me to develop a pedagogy that includes having a culturally-relevant curriculum that could help students relate to their classroom material, high teacher expectations and for educators to showcase love/cariño so students could feel important. Although all of these teaching strategies have been researched many times independently I combined all three to create single pedagogy because each of them compliments one another to help empower students.
