4 I chose Victoria University because it has a reputation for hands-on learning and lecturers who are industry leaders. Starting a degree after a seven-year break from study was quite nerve-wracking. However, it quickly became an experience that was really positive. I chose Victoria University because it has a reputation for hands-on learning and lecturers who are industry leaders. Their willingness to spend extra time working with me on topics I found difficult definitely enhanced my learning experience. During my final year of study I completed a 10-month internship at Coles, working with the Supply Chain team. In this position I found the skills taught to me at Victoria University vital in achieving success. Receiving a top 5 position in the Grad Connection Top 100 Awards, which recognises the most employable graduates across Australia, was, as they say, the icing on the cake. When I reflect on my time at Victoria University, I feel that I have gained skills and knowledge to lay the foundation for a fruitful and exciting career in business. 6 Through our network of business, industry and community partners, we equip our students with the skills and knowledge required in the real world. These connections help provide meaningful work placements for our students, as well as opportunities for our researchers to collaborate on solving real-world problems. Employers value our graduates because they learn from an industry-relevant curriculum, giving them real-life experience. GRADUATE JOB-READY Studying at Victoria University helps you become the kind of graduate employers want. That s because one of our greatest strengths is our links with industry. We are well known for engaging with business and community organisations, and have stronger connections with industry, the trades and professions than most universities. These partnerships help us shape courses and provide opportunities to access all-important workplace learning. This is why our graduates are valued by employers. INDUSTRY-RELEVANT CURRICULUM Our partnerships give us unique insights into current industry practices, allowing us to develop our courses to meet industry s current and future needs. This ensures we provide students with the most meaningful, relevant and up-to-date education. They then graduate with the knowledge and skills that employers need and are looking for. WORKPLACE LEARNING Our approach to learning combines theory with practice. We encourage workplace learning in all our courses to enhance your studies and make you highly sought after by employers. Because of our extensive network of industry partners, VU students have fantastic opportunities to undertake workplace learning with industry. Workplace learning is an invaluable means of allowing students to experience how their studies are applied in the real world. You will graduate job-ready, with the industry knowledge and experience that will make you stand out. It is little wonder that our graduates are renowned for the practical know-how that can only be gained outside the classroom. Many workplace learning students are subsequently hired by the company where they undertook their placement. VU s real industry learning helped me gain the confidence and networks to make it in the competitive job market. In my final year at VU, I was awarded a graduate position with the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA), which led to a permanent role as a senior analyst. I really enjoyed the close-knit culture and support from lecturers at VU, which helped me grow and succeed in my studies, and subsequently my career.
