5 What are people saying? Everyone seems to be very keen on moving to the cloud But is it the right move for everyone? Isn t there a risk that it won t perform well enough? What does fast enough actually look like? I m worried about security, control and compliance Does it have to feel like you re losing control? Doesn t transferring my data to the cloud lock me in? How to make sure you don t get vendor-locked?

The most common business case is avoiding capital expenditure on hardware or software. But there must be more to it than that? What can I do if I move to the cloud? With cloud computing speed is not just about technical performance it s about business agility. Choose services that let you work smarter, come to market quickly and respond to upturns and downturns. So how do I have a fast, agile cloud? Don t just think computers and don t just think tools for the job either Keep your resources elastic You don t need expensive tools or lots of people! Make sure you have mobility between providers

Most security problems inherent in cloud solutions exist in conventional systems too. Two additional factors that do come into play are inspection and unintended sharing. What are the factors to consider? Going to the cloud doesn t have to mean Internet Building a (virtual) perimeter is easier and cheaper! A cloud provider s main product is based on trust Always encrypt and consider DLP for sensitive data. How would you react to a security incident and what support could you expect from your cloud provider(s)?

Many people are worried that if they move to the cloud they will become locked in to their provider. Luckily there are lots of ways to make sure this doesn t happen and to ensure you get best value at the same time. What should I do? When buying software, understand the export options When buying infrastructure or platform, go generic If you go complex or large, go open Hybrid infrastructures have a built in escape hatch Large or small, pay as you go for mobility
