Presentation to the Lufkin Medical Center on Ethics and Safety September 10, Member of the Texas Nurse Executives Council President of the Faculty Senate CCNE accreditation achieved without any recommendations, did part of the writing of the standards. Six graduate courses developed, one each in Nursing Informatics (NURS529), Nursing Research (NURS 504) and Nursing Theory(NURS 501). The three courses developed in the Administrative Track for the Masters in Nursing Administration are; Administrative Theories NURS 520, Healthcare Economics and Financial Management (NURS 522) and Healthcare Law and Policy (NURS 524). All of these courses are web enhanced or web based. Wrote the CCNE accreditation for the Master s degree program which will offer a Master s in Education and a Masters in Nursing Administration, standards 3 and Since initial accreditation is only good for 5 years. Rewrote CCNE standards for RN to BSN program and resubmitted. The program was accredited for 10 years without any recommendations RN to BSN Program submitted to CCNE and awarded without deficits. Continuing to teach Research, Leadership, Professional Foundations. Committee work: Included faculty senate, Developing Nursing Club and Recruiting and advising students Associate Professor of Nursing ( Hired in January of 2001) Assisted in writing the standards for the initial CCNE accreditation of the undergraduate RN to BSN program at Texas A&M University-Texarkana. Consultant activities for URAC and JACHO in relationship to quality assurance, utilization review, and risk management. This included a review of JACHO quality assurance protocols for hospitals in the United States. 5
6 Director & Administrator of the Department of Continuing Education for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences University of Texas, El Paso, Texas Curriculum development and program development of continuing education for the College in all areas. These areas included: CME for Physicians; CHES credits for Health Educators; PACE credits for laboratory technicians, CE credits for Physical Therapists, and all areas of Nursing from Critical Care to Nurse Practitioner Programs. Duties included the formation of a Board of Directors that included lay public, the Medical Community, the University Professionals, and the Nursing leaders. This board helped to guide the curriculum and program development for the Department of Continuing Education, College of Nursing & Health Sciences The Department activities covered the city and county of El Paso. As the Director and collaboration with the Dean of the College, an interactive Television programs for the rural county of El Paso, Texas was developed. An RN, Ed.D. was hired to assist in the development of rural programs Grant Activity within the Department of Continuing Education for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences included two funded grants. The first grant was one with Providence Hospital, for public clinic and educational activities in conjunction with the hospital. The focus of this clinic was primarily on Women s health issues. The second funded grant was with a Pharmaceutical company for an Alzheimer s Conference. This grant was presented in both English and Spanish with the attendance of Governor Bush, now President George W. Bush 6
7 Director & Administrator of Home Health Agency for Catholic Community Services Director of Home Health Care Agency since a search was being done for a new Agency Director. As director of Home Health Care there were 40 employees with five outreach site for home health in the rural Cochise county. Developed a Board for the Home Health Division of the Agency composed of community, agency personnel, and physicians. Directed and participated in the accreditation process for the new CLIA guidelines mandated by the Federal government for laboratory standardization. This process was overseen by the State of Arizona Board of Health. Employed 100 individuals Director & Administrator of Surgical Corporation Position included setting up an out-patient operating suite and assisting with outpatient surgery. Practiced as a Clinical Nurse Specialist by assessing, educating, and managing patient s for the surgical practice of the surgeons. Managed a staff of 10 individuals, developed a computer billing program, managed insurance billing with ICD books and developed criteria for collections of overdue accounts, along with this a quality control criteria was developed Instructor Las Cruces New Mexico State University Teaching of Courses included: Medical-Surgical Nursing; Critical Care Nursing; Advanced ICU/CCU training in Cardiac Care from Ft. Bliss, Texas Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas Worked in ICU/CCU and Neuro-Intensive Care. Took a 3 month course in Advanced Neuro-Intensive care training and Neurosurgery, including advanced neuro-anatomy and neurophysiology. Worked on surgical floors, oncology, ENT, and plastic surgery. Worked labor and delivery at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Houston Memorial Hospital in Las Cruces, New Mexico Intensive Care and Cardiac Care Unit were the two areas worked. Again had advanced training at the Beaumont Army Hospital in Coronary Care. Advanced training in sound diagnosis of S1 through S4 heart sounds. Also had advanced training in Cardiac Care which included line insertion and emergency use of crash carts. 7
8 1974 (6 months) St. Josephs Hospital in Nogales, Arizona Worked all areas of the hospital as a staff nurse and supervisor. This included Medical/surgical; emergency department; nursing home unit; surgery; emergency department, labor and delivery.
