ACE is an after school program for high school students who are interested in a career in Architecture, Construction, management or Engineering. The mentors are professionals from leading design and construction firms, who volunteer their time and energy. The benefits include career guidance, skill enhancement, school to career assistance, and partial scholarships for selected students. f you are interested, please review the information below carefully and follow all instructions. To apply for the program you must visit the website at and complete an online application. No paper applications are being accepted. 2 ACE MENTOR PROGRAM ARCHTECTURE' CONSTRUCTON ENGNEERNG Become an ACE Student! What is ACE? ACE is a free after-school program for high school students who want to learn about careers in Architecture, Construction, and/or Engineering. Students are mentored by successful architects, construction managers and engineers who meet as a team at mentors' offices twice a month during the school year for two hours starting at 4 or 4:30PM. Teams are organized like a real life project design team and include a developer/owner, an architectural firm, a construction management company, and engineering firms. What will do in ACE? You will learn what it is like to work in the design and construction industry and develop a design project tailored to your interests. Sessions will include hands-on activities, use of design software, office tours and field trips to construction/project sites. You will also build a model and present the design project with your teammates at the end of the year. What are the benefits? Mentors from participating companies adopt your team for the school year, meeting with you about 15 times a year for two hours after school. They show you how designers and builders think and work. They take you on behind-thescenes office tours and field trips to construction sites. And then there's the design project. "... ' '. ' matches y'ou witli The design project: your ultimate challenge Under your mentors' guidance, your team develops an actual engineering or architectural design project. You learn and apply important skills such as problem solving and drawing to design a real-life school, bridge, parkwhatever your team agrees on. Then, in the final big event of the season, you and your team present your project to your teachers, parents and fellow students..... ' '

5 rag am at a glanc The benefits Career guidance: Your exposure to many disciplines and specialities associated with engineering, architecture and construction management helps you decide which one-if any-is right for you. Your mentors have already been there and done that, and they can help you. The cost There is no cost to students for participating in the program-it just requires some timetime learning how your mentors think and what they do, time working with your team on your project, time preparing for your future. Job opportunities: Meeting in actual companies opens up opportunities for summer jobs, internships...and beyond. Your mentors can help you apply for a position. Transition to the workplace: Becoming familiar with your mentors' working environment prepares you for working in an architecture, construction or engineering office. Scholarships: Participation in the program is a key component for you to be eligible for a partial college scholarship through the ACE Scholarship Program, if you pursue an ACE career. Better Skilfs: The program helps you develop a variety of skills, such as drawing, writing, presentation and problem solving.
