1 Campus Actions and Best Practices Panel CENTRAL PIEDMONT COMMUNITY COLLEGE

3 GREEN EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAMS The College prides itself on being a leader in workforce development. Through our unique local business community, CPCC primarily serves employers in the banking, architecture and engineering fields. CPCC s Sustainability training and career pathway programs include the following: Associate Degree; Sustainability Technologies with an emphasis on computer based technology Horticulture Technologies Construction Technologies Business Marketing Certificates with concentrations in sustainability Corporate and Continuing Education LEED Certifications in conjunction with USGBC Photovoltaic Certification in conjunction with NABCEP Green Systems Technology (one of four programs in the state) 3

4 ENGAGING LOWER-SKILLED ADULTS In the summer of 2010, CPCC joined the national effort to help more community college students succeed:achieving the Dream (ATD), a multi-year initiative focused on improving success, particularly among low-income, low skilled students. The five goals of ATD focus on student success: successful completion of developmental courses, successful completion of gateway courses, completion of all courses with a C or better, fall-to-spring retention rates, and increased graduation rates and/or earned certificates. CPCC Successes in engaging lower skilled adults include the following: Pathways to a Green South (Pathways out of Poverty) GST Green Systems Technology Green Builder Entry Level Carpentry with green emphasis Career Readiness Certifications SST Sustainability Technologies 4

5 EMPLOYER ENGAGEMENT CPCC s Sustainability program was developed through collaborative efforts with our external advisory committee, consisting of top regional partners from city and county governments, environmental non-profits, financial and engineering firms and other organizations. Success with Sustainability Technologies Degree students matched with regional employers for internships and permanent job placement.
