1 User Exercises In this document you will find Data Visualization exercises which will walk you through some common scenarios for using these products, and will also provide a hands-on method to accelerate your understanding as to how they work. All of the information below can also be found in our Online Documentation for each product. Note: Some of the exercises in this workbook are interdependent, so we recommend that you follow each section, in order, from beginning to end.

3 Common Tasks Throughout these exercises, we will be asking you to perform common SharePoint actions. See the instructions below for reference. Modify a Web Part When we ask you to modify a Web Part, we simply mean to click the Web Part actions arrow and select Modify Shared Web Part. 2

4 Bamboo Visual Indicator Exercise 1-1 Add a New Payment Type 1. On the Getting Started page, click the Sales link in the Quick Launch: 2. Select Settings > List Settings: 3. Select the Payment Type1 Column: 3

5 4. Add American Express as a type of payment in the choice selection field: 5. Click the OK button to save your changes. 6. Next, click on the Payment Type Column and you will see that American Express has been added. You can now choose a color to represent the Visual Indicator: 4

6 7. Select Sales from the breadcrumb trail to go back to the Sales list: 8. Click the New button and create a new item, making sure to select American Express for Payment Type1. Click the OK button to create the new list item: 5

7 9. You can now see the color coding and visual representation of purchases made via American Express: 10. Now we ll create a new view to filter our list to only show American Express purchases. Select the All Items drop-down and click Create View. 11. Beneath the Start from an existing view heading, select Visa Purchases. 12. Name our new view American Express Purchases, and scroll down to the Filter section. 13. Change filter to equal American Express, and click the OK button to create the view. 14. The Sales list should now be filtered and only show the single American Express purchase we created. 6

8 List Rotator Exercise 2-1 Change speed of rotation and number of items displayed 1. Navigate to the Photography Sales page and modify the Large Sales Items Bamboo List Rotator Web Part. 2. In the configuration tool pane, under List Rotator Configuration, change Default Speed to Fast and then change the number of items displayed to 3: 3. Click the OK button in the Web Part configuration tool pane. 4. You have just adjusted the speed and number of items to display in Bamboo List Rotator. 7

9 KPI Column Exercise 3-1 Create a New KPI for American Express Sales 1. On the Getting Started page, click the View All Site Content link in the Quick Launch. 2. Click the Sales Health link: 3. Select Settings > Create Column. 4. Input American Express KPI for the Column name, and select Bamboo KPI Column as the column type. 5. In the List drop-down, select Sales and select American Express Purchases for our view. 6. Select the radio button for The calculated value of this column for all list items in the selected View above. 7. Input 5000 for Goal and 2000 for Warning 8. Deselect Add to default view, and click the OK button to create our new KPI column. 8

11 Exercise 3-2 Display a New KPI 1. On the Photography Sales page, modify the Sales Health KPIs Bamboo KPI Column Web Part. 2. In the configuration tool pane, under Bamboo KPI Column Display Configuration, select American Express KPI in the Available KPI Column view, and click the right arrow button:. This will add the American Express KPI to our view. 3. Click the OK button in the Web Part configuration tool pane. 10

12 Chart Plus Exercise 4-1 Edit Chart to display Sales Total instead of Average 1. On the Photography Sales page, modify the Avg Purchase Amt Bamboo Chart Plus Web Part. 2. In the configuration tool pane, under the Chart Plus Configuration section, select Sum as the Operator for Purchase Amount. 3. You may also want to change the title of your Chart to Total Purchase Amt. 4. Click the OK button in the Web Part configuration tool pane. Exercise 4-2 Change Pie Chart Color Scheme 1. On the Photography Sales page, modify the Totals by Payment Bamboo Chart Plus Web Part. 2. In the configuration tool pane, under the Chart Plus Configuration section, click the Select Color button. 11

13 3. You can then choose new colors for each type of payment. 4. Click the OK button in the Web Part configuration tool pane. 12

14 Mini Calendar Exercise 5-1 Change the Mini Calendar to Display a Year View 1. On the Photography Sales page, modify the Sales Events Bamboo Mini Calendar Web Part. 2. In the configuration tool pane, under the Mini Calendar Configuration section, click the YearView radio button. 3. Click the OK button in the Web Part configuration tool pane. 13

15 Virtual Map View Web Part Exercise 6-1 Create a New Office Location 1. On the Getting Started page, click the Office Locations link in the Quick Launch. 2. Click the New button and create a new item similar to the screenshot below. Click the OK button to create the new list item. 3. Navigate to the Photography Sales page and you should automatically see the new office on the Office Locations Bamboo Virtual Map View. 14

16 Exercise 6-2 Modify Bamboo Virtual Map View 1. On the Photography Sales page, modify the Office Locations Bamboo Virtual Map View Web Part. 2. Under the Bamboo Virtual Map View Configuration, change Default Map View to Aerial View and change Marker Type to House. 3. Select the Display Columns by clicking the right double-arrow button. 15

17 4. Click the OK button in the Web Part configuration tool pane. 16

18 Poll Web Part Exercise 7-1 Configuring the Poll Voting Web Part 1. On the Getting Started page, click the View All Site Content link in the Quick Launch. 2. Click the Site Pages link and the bamboopolladmin link. 3. Highlight and copy the URL in your browser address bar: 4. Navigate to the Photography Sales page and modify the Favorite Data Visualization Tool Bamboo Poll Voting Web Part at the bottom right of the page. 5. Paste the URL you just copied into the URL field and click the Connect button. 6. Leave all defaults in place and click the OK button. 7. Refresh the screen if you don t immediately see the poll questions. 8. Go ahead and Vote for your favorite toolkit product(s). 17

19 Exercise 7-2 Manage Poll Answers and Create a New Poll 1. On the Getting Started page, click the View All Site Content link in the Quick Launch. 2. Click the Site Pages link and the bamboopolladmin link. 3. Click the Review Votes button: 4. Select and Delete the vote you made in Exercise 7-1. If you did not vote, this list will be empty. 5. Click the Add Poll button: 6. Create a new poll similar to the one shown below, and click the Save button when finished: 18

20 7. Click the Manage Answers button for the new poll you just created: 8. Click the Add Answer button and create a new answer similar to the one shown below, and then click the Save button. 9. Input an answer similar to the one shown below, and then click the Save button: 19

21 10. Follow the steps in Exercise 7-1 to configure the Poll Voting Web Part to display your newly created poll. 20
