7 MIKE SHAHAN, DIRECTOR NORTH TEXAS REGIONAL AIRPORT CONTACT: Mike Shahan, Airport Director or Bill Retz, Project Manager Mike Shahan began his career in aviation at Addison Airport, one of the busiest general aviation airports in the country located just outside Dallas. In 1995, he became the manager at the Gainesville Municipal Airport, which was recognized one year later as the Most Improved Airport in Texas by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Shahan is currently the director of the North Texas Regional Airport in Denison, Texas, overseeing operations and airport development. In 2002, TxDOT again honored Shahan by naming him General Aviation Airport Manger of the Year, and in 2006, the Grayson County Airport (now known as North Texas Regional Airport) was named the General Aviation Airport of the Year by the department. Shahan is an active member of the American Association of Airport Executives, has served as president of the South Central Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives and was a founding member of the Texas Airport Management Association serving as president the following year. He holds a commercial pilot s license with Single Engine Land/Multi Engine Land with Instrument Airplane ratings. Shahan earned his associate s degree in science and education from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma before receiving a bachelor s degree in aviation science and a master s degree in aviation and space science from Oklahoma State University.

He leads a committee of local community economic development professionals and key leaders focused on development of the airport. Rear Admiral Retz s background includes over 32 years as a highly decorated Surface Warfare Officer. Since leaving active duty, he has served as vice president of ARAMARK Corp; chief executive officer of NOFIRE Technologies Corp., a public company specializing in fire retardant coatings and engineered products; executive director of operations for the American Competitiveness Institute, a scientific research corporation for The Department of Defense and industry; and head of the Center for Rotorcraft Innovation. In addition to this primary business, Rear Admiral Retz is a senior executive consultant with Defense Solutions, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in defense and homeland security with offices in Washington, D.C., Tel Aviv and Budapest. He is also associated with Burdeshaw Associates, LLC, a Washington, D.C.-based consulting firm. An active member of the community, Rear Admiral Retz serves as Chairman of the Texoma Technical Enterprise Council, director of the National Defense Industrial Association (Dallas chapter), Chairman of the Denison Development Foundation, president of St. Luke s School Board and is a member of the Navy League, Surface Navy Association and other military related organizations. -end-
