4 the Virginia Community College System s Chancellor Dubois has announced his strategic plan entitled Quality Enhancement Complete 2021 Plan QEP it has a single goal: Triple the Number of Credentials for students attending our Virginia Community Colleges not just academic credentials but also industry credentials.

6 Industry-Education Partnerships: Include Industry as driver Include educators (Secondary and Postsecondary) that coordinate efforts Include Economic Development entity Act as a coordinating body across multiple education, workforce development and economic development programs Create highly customized responses to a target industry s needs, and therefore highly accurate responses Are not a short term project but a long term partnership

14 Concluding Thoughts Industry and Education must work together to address the workforce shortage Designing stackable pathways and starting the pathways earlier is key There are subbaccalaureate credentials of high value that lead to high skilled, high demand, good paying jobs Our world has changed, and in this new economy, the university degree is no longer the guaranteed path towards financial success as it was for previous generations New and emerging occupations in every industry now require a combination of academic knowledge and technical ability, we need to ensure that we re also guiding students towards careers and not just to the university
