2 A word to my sisters For the past several months, it seems as though everywhere I have gone, women have been asking me about Sister to Sister. I have responded politely by saying, We are not hosting the conference this year. We will be back in In response to my response, sisters pushed back! It became clear to me that putting the conference off until next year wasn t going over well with our loyal supporters. I discussed this with a member of our planning committee. I was trying to make the case as to why it just didn t make sense to do the conference this year: I hadn t done any work toward planning the conference. I hadn t been in touch with any of our sponsors. I had made no arrangement with Sinclair Community College (our conference home ) to secure space. At this late date, I was concerned that people might not be available to come because of prior commitments. Everything I said made sense to ME. But in response to all MY reasons as to why hosting the conference this year wasn t a good idea, my sisterfriend said to me, This is not about YOU. It is about all the sisters who are expressing the need to be served! With that..i surrendered. Some may view surrender as an act of weakness or an indication that one is accepting defeat. To me, surrender can be quite the contrary. Surrender can mean that I am making a conscious decision to no longer fight. Surrender can mean that I recognize that the path I am currently on will not lead me to my desired goal. For that reason, I will intentionally change my course. Surrender can mean that you are finally ready to release those thoughts, attitudes, actions (and maybe even PEOPLE!) that are inconsistent with who you are or who you want to become. This year, I invite you to join me and a room full of sisters on September 19, 2015 as we explore the theme I SURRENDER! Look for me. I ll be the one waving the white flag! Love to all my sisters! 4 About your presenter The Courage to Surrender Dr. Karen M.R. Townsend Sometimes the bravest thing that you can do, is to do nothing. While this may sound like giving in or giving up, in actuality, it is an act of great courage. 5 About your presenter The Power to Surrender Minister Brenda F. Troy Power is defined as the capacity or ability to influence a course of events or the behavior of others. When put in the context of the word surrender, the word power seems diametrically opposed. How can one surrender and yet still be powerful? And why would anyone who possessed power, ever want surrender? Minister Brenda F. Troy, founder of the Women of Power Retreat and Conference Series, will offer a dynamic presentation that will allow women to name their power, claim their power, embrace their power, and use that power to surrender so that they can live fully authentic lives. Brenda F. Troy is a minister, an entrepreneur, a mother, a wife and a servant who is committed to empowering women. Minister Troy has trained for than 10,000 people in the areas of business administration, organizational management, personal and professional development, and spiritual growth. In addition to leading ministries in her church, and being an active volunteer in her community, Minister Troy has been invited to speak around the world. During her travels, she works with local organizations to help free women and girls from the horrors of human trafficking and prostitution. These efforts have resulted in numerous honors and awards for her dedication to serving women, youth and children. Minister Troy is married to Dr. Keith A.
