1 Curriculum Map Changes to Baccalaureate Degree Panelists: Sheila Carlon, Ph.D., RHIA, FAHIMA, CHPS Mona Calhoun, MS, RHIA Rebecca Reynolds, Ed.D., RHIA
2 Historical Perspective February 2009, ESC began a thorough review of the 2005 Baccalaureate curriculum maps through a subcommittee of the larger group Updated descriptive language of the Domain and/ or Subdomain Updated descriptive language of the knowledge clusters (KCs) Evaluated the KCs for the best fit by domain and Subdomain Evaluated the rigor of the KCs by taxonomy level Changed the taxonomy levels to verbiage versus number of the level Compared associate and baccalaureate competencies and taxonomy level Compared baccalaureate and masters competencies and taxonomy level Compared baccalaureate competencies to CCHIIM exam competencies to standardize language
3 Historical Perspective Feedback was also solicited from educators through the AOE and Baccalaureate CoP communities and the 2010 Educator s Southeast Consortium group After extensive evaluation in February 2011, the revised curriculum maps were approved by ESC. Approved curriculum maps to CAHIIM for incorporation into the accreditation process (2 year window).

B. Subdomain: Healthcare Information Requirements and Standards New I.B.4 Design and implement clinical documentation initiatives C. Subdomain: Clinical Classification Systems Added I.C.3 Maintain processes, policies, and procedures to ensure the accuracy of coded data. D. Subdomain: Reimbursement Methodologies Revise V.D.4 and move to I.D.5 Participate in revenue cycle management.
