An overview of Parkeon over 40years EXPERIENCE Parkeon is a key global player in the urban mobility sector, offering a unique, comprehensive range of parking management solutions and ticketing solutions for public transport. These two complementary activities mean that Parkeon has the comprehensive expertise to offer all parties a series of thorough and customised solutions that meet the continually evolving challenges currently facing urban mobility. Besides its expertise and capacity to innovate, which are showcased on a daily basis, Parkeon's identity is characterised by an approach based on the careful consideration of all challenges and needs, from the client to the final user. Parkeon is a French company headquartered in Paris; it is currently active in 50 countries and is quickly branching out into emerging nations in Eastern Europe, Asia and Latin America. The systems and equipment of Parkeon already facilitate management and mobility processes in more than 3,000 cities. 1,100 Employees in Europe, Australia and the USA Offices in 8 Countries (the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Australia, Belgium, the USA and Germany), supported by an extensive network of partners worldwide 185 million turnover in 2013 of which 85% came from international operations p. 4
A fast-changing urban context The development of urban environments There are currently 400 cities with more than one million inhabitants. In 10 years time, a total of 23 cities will have populations over the 10-million mark and, by 2030, it is forecast that the global urbanisation rate will have surpassed 60%. These are all factors that contribute to an increasingly complex urban environment and growing city congestion. At the same time, suburban areas are rapidly expanding, meaning that the economic heartland is developing beyond urban boundaries; these factors directly impact on mobility-related challenges. Changing behaviours With cities becoming more densely populated, the challenge of individual mobility is becoming more intense. Living, working and leisure spaces are becoming detached from each other and journeys are changing, with an increasing number of journeys made either between or within urban areas. This factor results in the increased use of cars - indeed, studies show that, despite the desire shown by specific cities, the use of The environmental focus Cities account for 80% of CO2 emissions. The search for a parking space can alone cause up to 30% of city centre traffic jams and when the related environmental impact and public health issues are taken into account, the car is growing and will continue to grow over the next few decades. Another substantial change is the rapidly increasing dissemination of new technologies and the frenetic pace at which their scope is evolving; these factors bring about the need for a specific consideration of how these technologies can be used to meet the challenges linked to urban mobility. sustainable urban development becomes a matter of priority that requires an increased deployment of innovative technological solutions, which are simpler and more efficient. p. 5
The challenges facing the world of today and tomorrow In light of the changing face of cities, changing behaviours and growing environmental impacts, a number of requirements and expectations are emerging in terms of urban mobility-based challenges. These challenges centre around three key points: Quality of life Facilitating the movement of people in the city and re-humanising their everyday experiences is key for the future. The focus is on the decongestion of urban areas to reduce pollution, promoting economic vitality Investment decisions for policy-makers Investing in the long term and optimising the quality of service will drive increased revenue from services, by simplifying access to city centre services, and managing parking processes in order to benefit the urban environment and improve safety for residents. reduce operating costs and create new services based on the existing infrastructure. A responsible approach for all Developing solutions geared towards responsible and sustainable development, for example by opting for eco-design equipment, will encourage the use of green transport and make for a better lifestyle for all. By taking into all these issues into account and through its ability to offer an integrated approach to transport and parking policies Parkeon is helping cities rethink their approach to urban life. Parkeon is working in partnership to anticipate, optimise and support urban travel. Whether it s parking management solutions, ticketing solutions for public transport, or the integration of all these systems, Parkeon s effect on city and urban life can be seen around world on a daily basis. p. 6
Parkeon s expertise Two complementary activities for a comprehensive solution Parking management solutions Habits are changing; new technologies are being rolled-out at an increasing rate; new needs are emerging. Parkeon offers scalable solutions and innovative services based on an ecosystem consisting of terminals and back-office services. The pay and display terminal therefore becomes a smart piece of urban furniture, a multi-service kiosk available to all (both motorists and pedestrians), enabling genuine interaction between citizens and their environment. There is a wide variety of services on offer, from the payment for on and off-street parking and info-mobility to the provision of local, commercial, cultural or tourist information. These services address the multi-faceted concerns faced by cities today, and help to instil a renewed sense of vibrancy into city centres, facilitating access to urban services and promoting sustainable travel and mobility. accessible modes of transport near the kiosk, a "missing person notice", information about "project work + date", "promotions" information and the distribution of discount vouchers to use in the shops and businesses located near the kiosk, etc. And all this is being delivered on a global scale, thanks to Parkeon s experience and expertise in managing data and providing bespoke solutions that meet the needs of individual cities and their people. On account of the robustness and reliability of its "data centre" Parkeon is able to provide solutions on an international scale to the needs of all parties and especially in response to the growing demand for a completely secure payment service by credit and debit card. Parkeon is helping to facilitate an every-increasing range of technology-based services, such as the topping up transport tickets, a taxi-calling service, sending SMS, providing transport information on all 150 million banking transactions processed per year Parkeon parking terminals active worldwide 2,000/month parking terminal production capacity 60% (World) Market share of on-street parking Parkeon and parking management solutions, for example: NEW-YORK (USA) Installation of 12,000 Strada kiosks, accepting payment in cash and by credit and debit card. Powered by solar energy, the terminals have been customised to suit specific needs and demands (special graphic display, security features, audio messaging, etc.). For optimum management, all kiosks are centralised via the mobile phone network and connected to a centralised management system which is again adapted to the city (myparkfolio). PARIS (France) Installation of 8,000 solar-powered Strada kiosks. All the terminals offer payment by credit and debit card. All terminals have been upgraded for the purposes of remotely downloading and collecting data from a centralised platform. In Paris, new terminals helped promote the city s tourist heritage during the 2013 Heritage Days programme. Everybody visiting Paris was able to take part in the activity involving four multi-service kiosks equipped with a colour screen. MILAN (Italy) Installation of 1,500 solar-powered Strada kiosks, offering payments in cash, by credit and debit cards and also "contactless" payments. Terminals manage both parking fees and the activation or topping up of transport cards ("contactless" system). They also provide a service whereby the citizens of Milan can pay their road tax. More than 10,000 users access the system each day. CANNES, SAINT EMILION, AMIENS, SAUMUR... (France) There are many communities which are now equipped with the system developed by Parkeon known as Whoosh! This is a parking payment and management service delivered by phone or computer - it simplifies the process for users and optimises the management of public spaces. p. 7
Parkeon s expertise Two complementary activities for a comprehensive solution Ticketing solutions for public transport Urban transport is a political and economic challenge for city authorities and is one of the key issues facing urban areas. Parkeon provides integrated solutions that help manage the entire multimodal transport chain by systematically adapting architectures to meet the needs of communities, whether focused on bus, tramways, ferries, trains and metro..or all modes of transport. The technologies include POS terminals, on-board or ground-based ticket validation machines, driver consoles, cash machines and control terminals all configured to support and optimise the value to operators, scheme owners and citizens and to enhance the way that urban environments work. By working in this way, Parkeon takes account of the needs of every member of the community, while at the same time increasing accessibility - and therefore the autonomy - of all users to all forms of public transport. Parkeon works particularly closely with its partners to improve the quality of life for the most vulnerable users of transport services. Production capacity: 1,500/month Driver consoles and ticketing validators 1000/year Ticket vending machines Market share: 50% of the rail ticketing network / France 60% of the "bus" ticketing network / UK Parkeon and ticketing solutions for public transport, for example: RATP (France) Ticketing partner of the RATP (Autonomous Operator of Parisian Transports) for over 15 years: providing more than 80 % of RATP sales equipment. Responsible for the design, supply and implementation of ticketing systems (automatic sale) underpinned by an agreement to guarantee that the equipment meets operational service levels in excess of 98.5%. SNCF (France) Ticketing partner of the SNCF (French National Railways Company) for over 20 years. One of the largest installed networks of transport ticket vending machines in Europe: 2,750 machines installed for regional transport networks (TER and Transilien), 2,000 contactless ticketing kits built into the access gates to Transilien stations, 650 magnetic card printers for conventional ticketing at Ile de France stations, 600 ticket validation machines on platforms. Agreement to guarantee that the equipment meets operational service levels in excess of 98.5%. TRANSPORT FOR LONDON (UK) Provider of on-board ticketing solutions on London Buses for over 25 years. More than 6 million transactions per day processed on board 8,500 vehicles. Fully integrated using the Oyster card, available for all modes of public transport in the Greater London region. Comprehensive maintenance, central server and technical assistance 24/7 for 86 bus depots. PERTH (Australia) Deployment of "Tag On/Tag Off" multimodal technology for buses, ferries and trains. Centralised ticketing server that monitors equipment and data integrity and coordinates the top up of tickets purchased online. More than 4,500 pieces of equipment delivered and installed. Nearly 1.3 million contactless cards, with 600,000 transactions processed and analysed every day. p. 8
An acclaimed worldwide know-how The presence of Parkeon on an international scale is proof of its ability to provide effective and responsive solutions to the specific needs of all parties. Recent commercial successes abroad (New York, Las Vegas, The Hague, Mexico City, Helsinki, Warsaw, Jeddah, Yaoundé) and in France (Paris, Lyon, Bordeaux) are testament to the investment made by the teams and confirm Parkeon's potential. Significant commercial references Abaqulusi Abu Dhabi Belfast Birmingham Ampang Bordeaux Brussels Budapest Cancun Dubai Dublin Fribourg Geneva Jeddah Kuala Lumpur Las Vegas Lausanne Lisbon London Luxembourg Lyon Madrid Mexico Miami 85,000 Driver consoles and ticketing validators across the world 50% of European capitals covered Milan Munich Mostar New Plymouth New York Nantes Osasco Ottawa Paris Prague Pampelonne Reykjavik Rome Sydney Szczecin Tampereen Toronto Warsaw Winnipeg Zurich... Active partners: Swiftpass, the SNCF, the RATP, the Urban Community of Bordeaux, Veolia Transport... p. 9
Parkeon s commitment Parkeon has much more to offer than simply providing products. The company offers real support in helping cities face and meet the challenges of managing travel in urban areas. The make-up of cities and their infrastructure mean that people face a wide range of challenges - the flexibility of Parkeon's offer means that these can be addressed through customised solutions that promote smoother flows in urban transport while ensuring easier access to services for end users.
