HOME INSURANCE OUR MISSION IS YOU. HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE
Our Mission Like those who serve our nation, AFI is dedicated to delivering protection and peace of mind. Our unwavering commitment to personal service is your everyday assurance of competitive rates, easy access to critical information and rapid response to your individual needs. Our History Since 1887, Armed Forces Insurance (AFI) has existed with a single, unwavering purpose: To protect the people who protect our nation. AFI was created and continues to be led by former military leaders. We understand and reflect your commitment to duty, honor, and integrity and we recognize the special needs of Department of Defense employees both military and civilian. Armed Forces Insurance is a reciprocal exchange, a type of cooperative insurer in which the policyholders bear a relationship to each other. In other words, AFI is owned by the policyholders.
The AFI Homeowners Policy The AFI Homeowners policy provides broad coverage that insures your home and personal property for damage, destruction, and loss from natural causes, crime, etc. It also provides personal liability protection at or away from your home if you ever face a claim or charge for bodily injury or property damage. Coverages In The AFI Homeowners Policy: Dwelling Coverage The core of your AFI Homeowners policy is dwelling insurance for your home against all commonly covered occurrences. We have designed our coverage to be flexible so that it meets the special needs of people who are in America s military service. Your policy can be tailored to fit your individual circumstances with a variety of special endorsements for your home, its contents, and selected high-value items. Special Note: For full protection and peace of mind, you should insure your home for what it would cost to rebuild today if it were completely destroyed. Our Rebuilding Cost Analysis Program is a free service that will help you estimate the rebuilding cost for your home. Call to speak with an AFI service representative about this program.
Homeowners Insurance with AFI Coverage created with the unique needs of Military and DoD personnel in mind.
Personal Property Coverage The AFI Homeowners policy covers the theft, damage, or destruction of household goods, such as your furnishings, appliances, clothing, uniforms, and other personal property. This coverage is usually written for an amount equal to 50% of your dwelling insurance. Higher limits are available for an added premium charge. Personal Liability The liability portion of the policy pays for claims against you or family members residing in your home. We reimburse for bodily injury to others or damage to the property of others resulting from your negligence. The AFI Homeowners policy provides legal defense costs even if a suit brought against you is groundless, false, or fraudulent. You should determine the level of protection you think you need and purchase adequate coverage. At least $300,000 of liability insurance is recommended. Medical Coverage Pays for medical costs for accidental injuries (on or off your property) caused by you to people who are not members of your household. Payments may be authorized whether you are legally liable or not. Standard coverage is limited to $1,000 per person. An optional amount of $5,000 is recommended. Detached Structures AFI insurance automatically covers other structures on your land (not attached to your dwelling and not used for business or rental purposes) for 10% of your dwelling coverage at no extra charge. More coverage is available for an additional premium charge. Loss of Use Living Expense Reimburses you for necessary additional expenses you incur if your home is so severely damaged by a covered event that you must live elsewhere while it is being repaired. Standard coverage is up to 20% of your dwelling insurance at no extra charge.

Special Coverage For High-Value Items You might want more coverage than a standard policy provides if you own valuable jewelry, watches, furs, or coin, stamp, and other special collections. You can add coverage for additional perils for items such as china, crystal, silver, antiques, art, and other high-risk valuables. In these cases, we have supplemental coverage for high-value items. Call to talk to an AFI service representative about insurance for high-value items. Premium Discounts AFI offers these popular discounts to make our premiums more competitive and to encourage insureds to take measures to protect their homes against certain types of loss: New Home Discount - For homes less than 10 years old. Alarm Credits - the credit varies depending on where the alarm sounds in the event of a fire (smoke) or break-in. The largest discounts are for those systems that alert a central station. Storm Shutter Discounts - the credit varies depending on construction material for the shutters and the rating given to the shutters by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). All doors and windows must be protected, including skylights, doors with glass, and vents. Some coastal states are implementing loss mitigation credits for certain construction procedures that help reduce loss caused by wind, such as roof straps, roof covering, roof geometry and more - ask us about these credits if you live in a coastal state. Other credits and discounts are available by state. Be sure to ask your AFI service representative what discounts apply to you. Flood Insurance Standard homeowner policies do not cover flood damage to the buildings or personal property. However, AFI can issue flood coverage for you through a separate policy sponsored by the federal government s National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Call our Flood Department at to insure for the catastrophic losses that floods can cause.
Extend Coverage with Optional Endorsements Endorsements Offer You Expanded Coverage And Extra Financial Protection. Our most common endorsements: Replacement Cost Coverage for personal property only. Replacement Cost Enhancement for both the home and the personal property. 11 Important Information A Homeowners policy cannot cover everyone s complete needs. As is true of the industry, AFI policies have restrictions and exclusions. For example, standard policies do not cover losses caused by floods, earthquakes, settling, or sewer and sump backups. Personal property that is simply lost or misplaced is not covered. Physical damage to vehicles such as golf carts, ATVs, and four-wheelers is not covered. Coverage for some of these items can be added to your AFI Homeowners policy through the addition of special endorsements.
