6 QUALIFICATIONS College of Natural Beauty offers a variety of nationally accredited part -time and full-time courses in beauty. The Diploma and Certificate level courses are accredited through the Department of Education and Training (DET) as nationally recognised training programmes. They incorporate units of competency from the National Beauty Training Package, which may be used to gain credit towards additional qualifications both within and outside the College of Natural Beauty. The Diploma and Certificate programmes are delivered from the National Beauty Training Package (SIB10) and incorporate the required core and elective units of competency. Achievement of competency leads to a nationally recognised qualification within the Australian Qualifications Framework. Full details of the units of competency within these qualifications are available at International Qualification (ITEC) The College of Natural Beauty has accreditation to offer the International Therapy Examination Council (ITEC) qualification. ITEC is one of the world s leading specialist and most successful awarding bodies in the Beauty, Spa and Complimentary Therapy sectors. The Diploma of Beauty Specialist and Diploma of Spa and Salon Management ITEC qualifications offer graduate students an opportunity to gain theoretical and practical experience, thereby ensuring readiness for employment both nationally and internationally. Government Assistance Eligible College of Natural Beauty students can apply for government assistance through AUSTUDY, ABSTUDY or Youth Allowance. These schemes are administered by Centrelink. AUSTUDY/Youth Allowance is available to eligible Full-time students and is means tested. ABSTUDY is available to students of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. Clinic Experience The College operates a fully functioning student clinic servicing members of the public. Using organic product lines and sustainable approaches to beauty therapy, students will receive valuable clinic experience prior to graduating. All aspects of the day to day running of a Salon/Spa are incorporated. The beauty specialist and/or manager at this level would coordinate the working environment and provide treatments. The course focuses on building the business, creating a personal services culture, leading and developing a team, developing and implementing marketing activities, and ensuring all occupational health and safety requirements are maintained. 8 CERTIFICATE COURSE NATIONALLY ACCREDITED Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy SIB40110 Certificate IV Beauty Therapy has been designed to equip graduates with the knowledge and skills to become successful beauty therapists. This course is suited to those who are coordinating or managing the services within a small beauty salon, or a section of a department within a larger store. It incorporates self-directed application of knowledge and skills. The beauty specialist at this level would provide services, including lash and brow treatments, facials, make-up application and body treatments such as aesthetic aromatic massage and exfoliation. STUDY PATHWAY PRE-REQUISITE Full-time 36 weeks or Part-time 72 weeks N/A UNITS 25 CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Graduates have the skills to become qualified Beauty Therapists working on the face and body in a beauty salon or day spa. 9 SHORT COURSES NON ACCREDITED GENERAL INTEREST CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS EVERYDAY MAKE-UP This one-day workshop will give you the skills and confidence in applying makeup on yourself, family and friends. Learn simple and effective makeup techniques; the basics of foundation application, as well as lip and eye techniques. Cost: $150* Duration: 5 hours Pre-requisite: None SKIN CARE: THE BASICS This one day workshop will give participants a greater understanding of how to use skin care products and what their skin needs to be radiant. Participants will learn a basic home routine and receive advice for specific skin conditions. Cost: $150* Duration: 5 hours Pre-requisite: None DIY BROW SHAPING This one-day workshop will help explain the process to shape and groom eyebrows. Learn simple and effective techniques to form perfect eyebrows every time. Cost: $150* Duration: Pre-requisite: None 5 hours BRAZILIAN HAIR REMOVAL TECHNIQUES This course is accredited with APAA for 2 CPE points Brazilian Hair Removal Techniques course is requested frequently by an increasing number of clients. Ensure your training is up to date and at the forefront of customer demand by attending this 3 hour advanced short course. The course develops the techniques that need to be applied to safely and correctly perform this type of hair removal. Cost: $150* Duration: 3 hours Pre-requisite: SIBBHRS301A Perform waxing treatments or equivalent courses. COSMETIC TANNING This course is accredited with APAA for 2 CPE points College of Natural Beauty industry experts will teach techniques to deliver flawless, professional-standard spray tans, including how to manage typical problem areas such as elbows and feet. Participants will also learn tricks and tips to extend the life of a tan and the best way to match tan solutions with different skin tones. This course offers an excellent opportunity for existing therapists to add this skill to their services. Cost: $160* Duration: 4 hours Pre-requisite: None MICRODERMABRASION This course is accredited with APAA for 4 CPE points This advanced short course offers an ideal opportunity to develop theoretical and practical skills for this increasingly popular treatment. This course offers an excellent opportunity for existing therapists to add this skill to their services. Cost: $250* Duration: 6 hours Pre-requisite: SIBBFAS404A Provide facial treatments or equivalent courses. HOT STONE MASSAGE This course is accredited with APAA for 6 CPE points Hot Stone Massage is a wonderfully relaxing form of massage that involves the heating and placing of warm stones. This 2 day short course offers an excellent opportunity for existing therapists to add this skill to their services. Cost: $300* Duration: 2 days (6 hours per day) Pre-requisite: HLTREM406D Provide massage treatment & HLTREM407C Plan massage treatment or equivalent courses. REFRESHER COURSE This refresher course is designed for qualified beauty therapist to enhance and update their skills as a beauty therapist. EDUCATIONAL PATHWAYS The College encourages and recognises lifelong learning by offering educational pathways. Students regularly enquire with the College to seek an educational pathway for previously attained qualifications or in recognition of professional experience. Listed below are some common examples of education pathway enquiries: A student completes selected units of competencies and/ or subjects at another institution and wished to be granted credit for the completed units of competencies/subjects when enrolling. A student completes a VET qualification at another institution and is seeking credit for the qualification when enrolling into a qualification with the College. A prospective student has been working for many years in a particular industry or practice area and is seeking recognition for their experience when enrolling into a courses offered by the College. A prospective student completes a qualification at another institution many years ago and wishes to update their skills by enrolling in another qualification with the College.
