At age 27, I was worried about life what did I like, what could I become good at? It would be difficult to try something if I delayed any longer, so I decided to study in Japan. Even though I had been a working adult for five years, I returned to being a student and had to study language from the basics. The Intensive Japanese Program helped me by providing support to create an environment in which I could study hard, and even now I think the friendly instruction was very good. I believe that year of study allowed me to find work at a trading company that ties together Japan and Korea. I think everybody worries about results before they begin. I know I did. If you re thinking about studying in Japan right now, don t think too much about results. Try to think long-term and in more broad strokes, and set high aspirations for yourself. Do this and you will surely have an enjoyable time. LE Thi Thao Suong Home Country: Vietnam Graduated: 2014 Currently a first-year student in the Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Business Administration at Asia University I spoke some Japanese before I came to Japan. So I thought I understood Japan well. However, once I started learning Japanese intensively at Asia University, I realized there were many things I didn t know. I didn t just study to raise my language proficiency; I also deepened my knowledge of Japanese culture and people through the two study tours during the school year and study trips around Tokyo. My kind instructors also gave me various kinds of advice about my future study plans. I made a lot of friends from around the world, and learned a little bit about their cultures. It was a very enjoyable year, and I was able to move forward assuredly to the next step. ZHANG Aiping Home Country: China Graduated: 2000 Currently an employee of Sankei Co., Ltd. (Tokyo) I arrived in Japan in February After studying Japanese and English for a year in the Intensive Japanese Course, I went on to study at Asia University s Faculty of Economics. It was the first time I had left my country and lived alone, so I was very anxious at first. The staff of the International Exchange Section (now the International Student Services Division in the International Center) and the instructors were very helpful, so I settled into life in a foreign country quickly. That first year was a fulfilling and fun, a turning point in my life. It is something I could boast about. I joined a Japanese company upon graduation and got married, and I m happy I came to Japan. 12
