NORMALISERING : (100) International standards of business conduct : Framework and illustration / Svensson, Göran & Wood, Greg (European Business Review (EBR), 2008 vol 20 no 3, pp ) The purpose of this paper is to describe the insights and a proposal into structure of standards of business conduct and its intended applications. P GRBR 2008 vol 20 no 3 SALLE/ZAAL: 39 E II (46) ISO 9001 and residential homes for the elderly : A Delphi study / Heras, Iñaki & Cilleruelo, Ernesto & Iradi, Jon (Managing Service Quality, 2008 vol 18 no 3, pp ) The purpose of this study is to assess the appropriateness of applying the ISO 9001 quality standard to the residential aged-care sector. P GRBR 2008 vol 18 no 3 SALLE/ZAAL: 42 G III 008 CIVILISATION. CULTURE. PROGRES. BESCHAVING. KULTUUR. VOORUITGANG Investigating capitalism aversion / Landier, Augustin & Thesmar, David & Thoenig, Mathias (Economic Policy, 2008 no 55, pp ) Augustin Landier, David Thesmar and Mathias Thoenig investigate pro-capitalism attitudes using individual answers to question collected in the World Value Survey in various countries. It turns out that there is a lot of variation in pro-capitalism opinions between and withiin countries. A lot of the cross-country variation in opinions is determined by long-run cultural and historical differences in religion and legal institutions. However, there is also evidence that individuals learn about the virtues of market competition. P GRBR 2008 no 55 SALLE/ZAAL: 25 A III 01 (4-15) Managing by values / Dolan, Simon L. & Richley, Bonnie A. & Garcia, Salvador & Lingham, Tony (European Business Forum : Europe's perspective on global management issues, 2008 no 32, pp ) Many successful organisations are characterised by strong and widely held systems of values. How do managers embed these values and align them with an organisation's strategic goals. P GRBR 2008 no 32 SALLE/ZAAL: 40 I III 02 Information and the intermediary : Are market intermediaris informed traders in electronic markets? / Anand, Amber & Subrahmanyam, Avanidhar (Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis (JFQA), 2008 vol 43 no 1, pp. 1-28) A significant but unresolved question in the current debate about the role of intermediaries in financial markets is whether intermediaries behave as passive traders or whether they actively seek and trade on information. P EU 2008 vol 43 no 1 SALLE/ZAAL: 34 B II 033 OUVRAGES DE REFERENCE. P BG 2008 vol 25 no 1 SALLE/ZAAL: 40 L II 1 PHILOSOPHIE. PSYCHOLOGIE. ETHIQUE. WIJSBEGEERTE. PSYCHOLOGIE. (Journal of International Business Studies : The Journal of the Academy of International Business, 2008 vol 39 no 3, pp ) Multinationals. Regardless of the choise of greenfield investment vs acquisition, they can control full equity (i.e., wholly owned subsidiaries) or share ownership with local partners (i.e., joint ventures). Motives for acquisitions are specific to whether entries are made through full or partial ownership, in that full acquisitions are driven mostly by capability procurements. Japanese investments in the US. Also evidence that Japanese investors self-select the decision on full or partial ownership to justify the strategy. P GRBR 2008 vol 39 no 3 SALLE/ZAAL: 39 B III La neuroéconomie. / Changeux, Jean-Pierre & Schmidt, Christian & Bourgeois-Gironde, Sacha & Kelso, Scott J.A. & Kirman, Alan P. & Bault, Nadège & Coricelli, Giorgio &

P GX 2008 vol 118 no 1 SALLE/ZAAL: 25 H III Modern Eleusis : Religion and factory / Sandemose, Jorgen (Science and Society, 2008 vol 72 no 3, pp ) Norwegian political economist Jorgen Sandemose presents a powerful analysis. Developing Marx's insights into the connection between religion and capitalist society along the lines of three broad categories : citizenship, circulation, and production. P BG 2008 vol 34 no 3 SALLE/ZAAL: 23 K IV 2 RELIGION. THEOLOGIE. GODSDIENST. THEOLOGIE Segregation and the quality of government in a cross-section of countries. / Alesina, Alberto F. & Zhuravskaya, Ekaterina (CEPR Discussion Papers,no 6943, pp. 1-47) Our results suggest that more segregated countries in terms of ethnicity and language, i.e., those where groups live more spatially separately, have a substantially lower quality of government. In contrast, there is no relationship between religious segregation and the government quality. P GRBRno Modern Eleusis : Religion and factory / Sandemose, Jorgen (Science and Society, 2008 vol 72 no 3, pp ) Norwegian political economist Jorgen Sandemose presents a powerful analysis. Developing Marx's insights into the connection between religion and capitalist society along the lines of three broad categories : citizenship, circulation, and production. P EU 2008 vol 72 no 3 SALLE/ZAAL: 07 F III 3 SCIENCES SOCIALES. SOCIALE WETENSCHAPPEN. 3 (410) Is the tendency to engage in entrepreneurship genetic? / Spector, Tim D. & Nicolaou, Nicos & Shane, Scott & Cherkas, Lynn & Hunkin, Janice (Management Science : Journal of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, 2008 vol 54 no 1, pp ) We used quantitative genetics techniques to compare the entrepreneurial actitivy of 870 pairs of monozygotic (MZ) and 857 pairs of same-sex dizygotic (DZ) twins from the United Kingdom. We ran model-fitting analyses to estimate the genetic, shared environmental and nonshared environmental effects on the propensity of people to become entrepreneurs. 4 Accroissements Bibliothèque FONDS QUETELET: PAGE 4 Collective memory and collective identity / s.n. (Social Research : an international quarterly of the social sciences, 2008 vol 75 no 1, pp ) What does it mean for a community to have a memory? What are the means through which the community shapes its memory? How are collective memories formed? How does a collective memory bear on collective identity? P EU 2008 vol 75 no 1 SALLE/ZAAL: 07 F II Le dilemme du sport. P BG 2008 vol 74 no 1 SALLE/ZAAL: 19 C I Investigating capitalism aversion / Landier, Augustin & Thesmar, David & Thoenig, Mathias (Economic Policy, 2008 no 55, pp ) Augustin Landier, David Thesmar and Mathias Thoenig investigate pro-capitalism attitudes using individual answers to question collected in the World Value Survey in various countries. It turns out that there is a lot of variation in pro-capitalism opinions between and withiin countries. A lot of the cross-country variation in opinions is determined by long-run cultural and historical differences in religion and legal institutions. P ALL 2008 vol 60 no 1 SALLE/ZAAL: 39 G II Constructing transnational action research networks : Observations and reflections from the case of the citizenship DRG / Brown, David L. & Gaventa, John (IDS Working Paper,no 302, pp. 7-32) The paper examines the emergence (during the period ) of the Development Research Centre on Citizenship, Participation and Accountability, a network of seven partners - from the UK, India, Bangladesh, Nigeria, South Africa, Mexico and Brazil - concerned with research, capacity building and policy influence on these issues. P GRBRno (4-11) (4-15) Contemporary integration policies in Europe : Civic integration programmes and the legal, social and cultural position of non-citizens / Odé, Arend (European Journal of Social Security, 2008 vol 10 no 1, pp. 7-23) The cultural dimension is not left untouched either, since integration courses increasingly insist on social and cultural incorporation. As will be discussed in more detail for the Netherlands, the establishment of civic integration policies has abruptly ended the period of multiculturalism, and has had serious consequences for the position of immigrants in Dutch society. P GRBR 2008 vol 16 no 3 SALLE/ZAAL: 45 E II (100) Monitoring and evaluation of energy for development : The good, the bad and the questionable in M&E practice / Annecke, Wendy (Energy Policy, 2008 vol 36 no 8, pp ) This paper reflects on the debates and the practices involved in monitoring and evaluating energy for development projects which led to the formulation of " A guide to Monitoring and Evaluation for Energy Projects" by an international working group. Another purpose of the paper is to invite energy policy-makers, planners and implementers to engage with the meaning of good practice in monitoring and evaluation in the energy sector and the capacity building necessary to achieve this. P GRBR 2008 vol 36 no 8 SALLE/ZAAL: 44 B I (100) Towards a sustainably certifiable futures contract for biofuels / Mathews, John A. (Energy Policy, 2008 vol 36 no 5, pp ) How are biofuels to be certified as produced in a sustainable and responsible fashion? In the global debate over this issue, one party to the proceedings seems rarely to be mentioned - namely the commodities exchanges through which a global biofuels market is being created. In this contribution, I propose a solution to the problem of sustainability certification through a biofuels futures contract equipped with 'proof of origin' documentation. P GRBR 2008 vol 36 no 5 SALLE/ZAAL: 44 B I (100) (680) A complex systems approach to planning, optimization and decision making for energy networks / Beck, Jessica & Kempener, Ruud & Cohen, Brett & Petrie, Jim (Energy Policy, 2008 vol 36 no 8, pp ) This paper explores a new approach to planning and optimization of energy networks, using a mix of global optimization and agent-based modeling tools. The approach attempts to set targets for energy planning, by determining preferred network development pathways through multi-objective optimization. The viability of such plans is then explored through agent-based models. P GRBR 2008 vol 36 no 8 SALLE/ZAAL: 44 B I (6) Special issue on sustainable development in Africa / Unruh, Jon D. & Laye, Ousmane & Gaye, Isatou & Falkenmark, Malin & Rockström, Johan & Jindal, Rohit & Swallow, Brent & Kerr, John & Kabubo-Mariara, Jane & Allemano, Eric & Ejigu, Mersie & AbdulRahim, M.A. & Shehu, D.J. & Mensah Anokye, Sabina & Hartemink, Alfred E. & RUF, françois & UPRETY, KISHOR & van Koppen, Barbara & Bahri, Akiça & Tirado, Reyes & Johnston, Paul & Riley, James C. & Abalu, George I. & Hall-Matthews, David & Bissonnette, Jean-François (Natural Resources Forum, 2008 vol 32 no 2, pp ) Driving forward sustainable development agendas in Africa. Building resilience to drought in desertification-prone savannas in Sub-Saharan Africa : The water perpective. Toward sustainable livelihoods after war : Reconstituting rural land tenure systems. Forestry-base carbon sequestration projects in Africa. Climate change adaptation and livestock activity choices in Kenya. HIV and AIDS : Responding to a threat to education for sustainable development. Toward energy and livelihoods security in Africa : Smallholder production and processing of bioenergy as a strategy. P GX 2008 vol 32 no 2 SALLE/ZAAL: 44 F III (81) The sustainability of ethanol production from sugarcane / Goldenberg, José & Teixeira Coelho, Suani & Guardabassi, Patricia (Energy Policy, 2008 vol 36 no 6, pp ) The rapid expansion of ethanol production from sugarcane in Brazil has raised a number of questions regarding its negative consequences and sustainability. P GRBR 2008 vol 36 no 6 SALLE/ZAAL: 44 B I BIEN-ETRE ET MISERE.

P BG/A 2008 no 2420 SALLE/ZAAL: 36 H II Measuring sustainable development: theory and application / Dasgupta, Partha (Asian Development Review : Studies of Asian and Pacific Economic Issues, 2007 vol 24 no 1, pp. 1-10) The paper applies the notion of social well-being to show that 'sustainable development' should mean the maintenance of the productive base of an economy relative to its populuation. P GX 2007 vol 24 no 1 SALLE/ZAAL: 28 G I Measuring inclusive growth / Ali, Ifzal (Asian Development Review : Studies of Asian and Pacific Economic Issues, 2007 vol 24 no 1, pp ) This study proposes an approach to measuring inclusive growth. It draws from the idea of a social opportunity function akin to a social welfare function. P GX 2007 vol 24 no 1 SALLE/ZAAL: 28 G I Insurance and opportunities : A welfare analysis of labor market risk / Heathcote, Jonathan & Storesletten, Kjetil & Violante, Giovanni L. (Journal of Monetary Economics, 2008 vol 55 no 3, pp ) Using a model with constant relative risk-aversion preferences, endogenous labor supply and partial insurance against idiosyncratic wage risk, this paper provides an analytical characterization of three welfare effects: (a) the welfare effect of a rise in wage dispersion, (b) the welfare gain from completing markets, and (c) the welfare effect from eliminating risk. The analysis reveals an important trade-off for these welfare calculations. / Mongin, Philippe (Revue économique, 2008 vol 59 no 2, pp ) P FR 2008 vol 59 no 2 SALLE/ZAAL: 24 C I Interest rate rules and welfare in open economies / Senay, Ozge (Scottish Journal of Political Economy, 2008 vol 55 no 3, pp ) This paper analyzes the welfare performance of a set of five alternative interest rate rules in an open economy stochastic dynamic general equilibrium model with nominal rigidities. P GRBR 2008 vol 55 no 3 SALLE/ZAAL: 25 J I Globalization and specialization / Eckel, Carsten (Journal of International Economics, 2008 vol 75 no 1, pp ) The popular Dixit-Stiglitz-Ethier framework proposes that globalization increases the menu of intermediate goods available to downstream firms and that gains from specialization raise welfare unambiguously. This study shows that both results depend critically on the assumption that demand elasticities are invariable. The more general framework presented here provides two main insights: First, whether specialization rises or falls depends ultimately on the shape of the cost function, and second, globalization can actually reduce welfare in the case when specialization falls. P PB 2008 vol 75 no 1 SALLE/ZAAL: 27 B II Economic growth and subjective well-being : reassessing the easterlin paradox. / Stevenson, Betsey & Wolfers, Justin (CEPR Discussion Papers,no 6944, pp. 1-30) The "Easterlin paradox" suggests that there is no link between a society's economic development and its average level of happiness. We re-assess this paradox analyzing multiple rich datasets spanning many decades. P GRBRno Housing wealth isn't wealth. / Buiter, Willem H. (CEPR Discussion Papers,no 6920, pp. 1-21) In a representative agent model and in the Yaari-Balnchard OLG model used in the paper, there is no pure wealth effect on consumption from a change in house prices if this represents a change in fundamental value. P GRBRno Do we really know what makes us happy? A review of the economic literature on the factors associated with subjective well-being. / Dolan, Paul & Peasgood, Tessa & White, Mathew (Journal of Economic Psychology, 2008 vol 29 no 1, pp ) There is increasing interest in the "economics of happiness", reflected by the number of articles that are appearing in mainstream economics journals that consider subjective well-being (SWB) and its determinants. This paper provides a detailed review of this literature. It focuses on papers that have been published in economics journals since 1990, as well as some key reviews in psychology and important unpublished working papers. P PB 2008 vol 29 no 1 SALLE/ZAAL: 26 H I (100) (100-77) Global estimates of pro-poor growth / Son, Hyun H. & Kakwani, Nanak (World Development : the multi-disciplinary international journal devoted to the study and promotion of world development, 2008 vol 36 no 6, pp ) The main objective of the present paper is to present a cross-country analysis of propoor growth in 80 countries in 237 growth spells furing the period To achieve this objective the paper proposes a new measure of pro-poor growth that captures gains and losses of growth rates due to changes in the distribution of consumption. P GRBR 2008 vol 36 no 6 SALLE/ZAAL: 29 H III (100) (100-77) (85) Vulnerability to multidimensional poverty : Peru, / Calvo, Cesar (World Development : the multi-disciplinary international journal devoted to the study and promotion of world development, 2008 vol 36 no 6, pp ) We approach multidimensional poverty from the viewpoint of a forward-looking, risk-averse household.
