1 Housing Loans and Grants - A Summary
2 PRIVATE SECTOR HOUSING GRANTS AND LOANS The Council has adopted a new policy for helping people to improve, repair and adapt their properties. This leaflet summarises the grants and loans which make up this policy. Please te More detailed information is available in a series of separate leaflets on the individual grants and loans. There are conditions which apply to each of these grants and loans. Most grants and loans are subject to the Council having sufficient money to offer the grants or loan. 1 2 The current types of grants and loans are: Home Renovation Assistance Repayable, means tested loans of up to 25,000 to help bring homes up to the fitness and decent homes standards. Empty Property Grant Grants of up to 15,000 to help private landlords to bring empty properties back into use as affordable rented accommodation for tenants nominated by the Council. The grants are repayable in certain circumstances. 1
3 Houses in Multiple Occupation Fire Safety Grant Grants of up to 7,500 to help landlords of registerable houses in multiple occupation to improve fire safety in their properties. The grants are repayable in certain circumstances. Home Improvement Assistance Repayable, means tested loans of up to 25,000 to help people to extend their properties to make them more suitable for the number of residents living there. Mandatory Disabled Facilities Grant n-repayable, means tested grants of up to 25,000 to help meet the costs of adaptations to a home to meet the needs of a disabled person. n-mandatory Disabled Facilities Assistance Repayable, means tested loans of up to 25,000 to: 1) help meet the costs of adaptations to a home of a disabled person where the type of works cannot be covered by a Mandatory Disabled Facilities Grant, or 2) top up a Mandatory Disabled Facilities Grant where the cost of the works is greater than the maximum allowed under that grant, or 3) help meet the cost of moving to a more suitable home if adaptation of the existing property is not considered appropriate. 2
4 7 8 Safe and Secure n-repayable grants of up to 100 to help older and vulnerable people overcome the fear of crime by making their homes more secure. Help at Hand n-repayable grants of up to 500 to help older people, vulnerable households and disabled people to install a Care Line personal security system.
