4 M&A Awards Within Richard Tyler International, the culture is exactly the same as what the company tries to develop in its clients, says Tyler everyone is on the same page. It s a synergistic culture, he says. In the sales training and management consulting industry there has, over the past year, been a growing trend for compartmentalised online training, says Tyler. And it s a trend, with companies continuing to cut costs, which is set to continue, he says. It has a place, he says, but companies increasingly want to do everything online. They want to replace human interaction. It s a wider trend that he s noticed throughout society, particularly among the younger generation, who appear to prefer to do their socialising on a laptop or smartphone. In Tyler s opinion, leaving out the human element from sales training thus ignoring vital factors such as body language is resulting in billions of sales dollars being left on the table. This will continue, he says, because training is a place where companies will continue to cut expenses. But, he says, cutting costs in this area will always prove to be a false economy. If the salespeople can t sell professionally, then there will be no result for the company, he says. Richard Tyler International is a unique organisation in many ways. We re looking for an understanding of the sales process, says Tyler. That means on-the-street sales not just product knowledge. A lot of organisations can teach sales structure, says Tyler, citing the often-used customer relationship management (CRM) system for managing a company s interactions with current and future customers. Such systems, which have been covered in a vast number of books, ebooks, audiobooks and instructional videos available online, involve using technology to organize, automate and synchronize sales, marketing, customer service, and technical support. But despite this wealth of information, such systems are not the right way to go about learning how to sell, says Tyler. In reality it s a human relationship, he says. Asked what sets Richard Tyler International apart from its competitors, Tyler says that the most important thing to think about is how our client is going to generate profit. Everything starts with the mind-set of generating revenue for our clients. If a company is not profitable it cannot sustain servicing its clients needs, he says. Everything in a company, even down to the way people look to a client, should all be focused on, he says. It all comes from the sales philosophy. Every education programme we train and all our consulting is built on our sales and client satisfaction framework. Most firms have totally different philosophies for different areas of the business, he says, and sometimes a company will hire different training firms to train different parts of the organisation. This is an incorrect approach, says Tyler because often there are conflicting philosophies that confuse the employees. He adds, A confused employee takes no action. To help clients with this challenge Tyler developed his previously mentioned Primary Sourcing philosophy. One aspect of this philosophy has Richard Tyler International working with all the clients training providers to insure consistency of teaching.
