24 HSPA + 64QAM What is it? 64 QAM = modulation scheme = method to put more bits into a transmitted signal Speed : 21 Mbps. Application : Indoor microcells (e.g. Zaventem Airport) Benefit : With 64QAM, it is possible to deliver 6 bits in one transmitted burst. In 16QAM, we can transmit 4 bits. Prerequisites: Both Radio Access network and the user equipment need to be upgraded. Constraints The more bits in 1 signal burst, the more the signal must be undisturbed. Therefore 64 QAM will only be significant ifi in good conditions close to the site. Type here level of Sensitivity: Unrestricted 15/12/2010 Slide 24

25 HSPA + MIMO What is it? Multiple l Input, Multiple l output. t Multiple data-streams are transmitted in parallel over different transmit and receive antenna s. e.g. 2x2 MIMO (baseline for LTE) means that parallel data streams are sent over two transmit antenna s and received by two receive antenna s. Benefit : Cell capacity and average user throughput increase. Prerequisites: Both Radio Access network and the user equipment need to be upgraded. 26 HSPA + Dual Carrier What is it? Dual carrier is combing the signals of two different UMTS-carriers (or UMTS-frequencies). Speed: 28,8 88 Mbps Benefit : Average user throughput increases (only downlink!). Prerequisites: Both Radio Access network and the user equipment need to be upgraded. Belgacom has the licence for 3 UMTS-frequencies but is only using 2 until now. As from 2011, 3 frequencies will be used. Type here level of Sensitivity: Unrestricted 15/12/2010 Slide 26
