3 FACULTY CHAIR: LISH WITSON Lish Whitson PLLC 2121 Fifth Avenue Seattle, WA LISH WHITSON has represented individuals, businesses, plaintiffs and defendants in federal and state courts. His civil practice includes medical malpractice, health law, consumer class action, complex commercial litigation, personal injury, bad faith, wrongful death, and employment and construction law. Mr. Whitson also has an active practice as a neutral, serving as both an arbitrator and a mediator. He has been elected to membership in the American College of Trial Lawyers, the Litigation Counsel of America, Western Trial Lawyers Association and the American Board of Trial Advocates. He presently serves on the ABOTA National Board. He is a past trustee of the King County Bar Association, a past Governor of the Washington State Bar Association, a past member of the ABA House of Delegates and a past member of the American Judicature Society National Board. He is a recipient of the King County Bar's "Pro Bono Award" and the "Lawyer of the Year Award." Every year for the last decade he has been selected by his peers as a Washington State "Super Lawyers" in Law & Politics magazine. He is also an adjunct faculty member in trial advocacy at the University of Washington School of Law. His community service has included serving on the board of the Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center and on the board of the Downtown Emergency Service Center. Mr. Whitson is licensed in both Washington and Oregon.

4 Distinguished Faculty DOUG ENDE Washington State Bar Association 1325 Fourth Ave Suite 600 Seattle, WA DOUGLAS J. ENDE has been employed by the Washington State Bar Association For more than 15 years. He has served as a staff disciplinary counsel, assistant general counsel, professional responsibility counsel, and, for the last eight years, as Chief Disciplinary Counsel. He is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University and the University of Washington School of Law. Prior to joining the WSBA staff, Mr. Ende served as a law clerk at the Washington State Court of Appeals, as a litigation associate at a large Seattle law firm, as an appellate attorney at a public defense agency, as a partner in a small criminal defense firm, and as a member of the faculty of the University of Washington School of Law, where he was voted Professor of the Year in In 2010 he again taught at the U.W. School of Law as a part-time lecturer on Professional Responsibility. He has served as a member of the WSBA Board of Bar Examiners, the ABA Ethics 20/20 Commission Work Group on Uniformity, Choice of Law, and Conflicts of Interest, and the National Conference of Bar Examiners Multistate Essay Examination/Performance Test Committee. He is co-author of several volumes of West s Washington Practice: 15A Washington Handbook on Civil Procedure, and 13A & B Criminal Law. In 2009, he was a recipient of the ABA Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs Meritorious Service Award. In 2013, he was elected to a two-year term on the Board of Directors of the National Organization of Bar Counsel. He has never run a marathon.

5 HONORABLE JOHN P. ERLICK King County Superior Court 516 3rd Ave W-1060 Seattle, WA JUDGE ERLICK was elected to the King County Superior Court in September He most recently served as Chief Civil Judge for King County Superior Court and currently presides over civil and criminal trials. He serves on the State Commission on Judicial Conduct and chairs the Superior Court Judges Association (SCJA) Ethics Committee. He is on the Executive Committee and is President Emeritus of the William J. Dwyer Inn of Court ( ). He is the current assistant Dean of the Washington State Judicial College. Judge Erlick previously served as the SCJA appointee to the State s Ethics Advisory Committee. He has also served as the chair of the King County Superior Court Ex Parte and Probate Committee, and as a member of the Superior Court s Executive Committee, Jury Committee, Governance Committee, and Ad Hoc Duty Time Committee and the King County Bench/Bar Efficiencies Task Force. He was the 2004 judicial co-chair of the King County Bench-Bar Conference. Judge Erlick is an adjunct professor in professional responsibility and the judicial externship program at Seattle University, where he received the Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award in He has also been involved as a coach and instructor in countless mock trial and moot court competitions. Judge Erlick was elected to the King County Superior Court after concentrating in private practice on defense of professional liability cases. Judge Erlick graduated from Harvard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts with honors and from the Georgetown University Law Center with honors. He is a graduate of the National Judicial College.

6 COLIN J. FOLAWN Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt US Bank Centre 1420 Fifth Ave., Suite 3400 Seattle, WA COLIN FOLAWN helps clients resolve disputes. He understands the importance of listening to clients and providing them with practical legal advice. He limits his practice to matters involving complex contract disputes, privacy and data security law, admiralty, and legal malpractice/ethics. He assists clients with disputes at all stages, including pre-litigation negotiation, hearings, trials, and appeals. Colin has presented briefing and oral argument before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, as well as the Washington Court of Appeals. He has tried civil jury cases to verdict in Washington courts and written and argued several successful motions in state and federal courts. Colin also serves as Assistant General Counsel to the firm. Colin has been recognized for inclusion in the list of Washington Rising Stars published by Thomson Reuters. Before becoming a shareholder at Schwabe, he received the 2009 Defense Associate of the Year Award from Washington Defense Trial Lawyers. While studying at the Seattle University School of Law, Colin won the Fredric C. Tausend appellate moot court competition. He served as a judicial extern for Justice Tom Chambers of the Washington Supreme Court. In addition, Colin was editor in chief for the Seattle University Law Review. At his year of graduation, he was one of two law students to receive the Faculty Scholar Award.

7 CHRISTOPHER H. HOWARD Schwabe Williamson & Wyatt PC th Ave Ste 3400 Seattle, WA CHRISTOPHER HOWARD focuses his practice on commercial litigation and the defense of professionals in the medical, legal, financial, hospitality and real estate industries. His work includes defense of attorneys in legal malpractice claims and in disciplinary matters. Mr. Howard handles insurance coverage matters in the life, disability and long term care coverage areas, and advises on risk management for self-insured companies. He is Schwabe Williamson & Wyatt's general litigation practice group leader and has extensive trial and appellate experience in state, federal and administrative law courts. A frequent speaker to professionals and employers on liability, ethics, and risk management issues, Mr. Howard has been recognized as a Washington Super Lawyer ( , 2001) ; and, he was named to the Top 100 Washington Super Lawyers list in both 2010 and He carries an "AV" rating with Martindale Hubbell. He earned his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University and his law degree from Stanford Law. SUSAN K. MCINTOSH Forsberg & Umlauf, P.S th Ave, Suite 1400 Seattle, WA smcintosh@forsberg-umlauf.com SUSAN K. MCINTOSH focuses her practice on representing lawyers and accountants in professional liability matters. Her experience includes business and commercial litigation, personal injury and professional negligence, health care litigation and regulatory matters, housing discrimination, and director s and officer s claims. Ms. McIntosh has served on the boards of the King County Bar Association and Family Law CASA of King County, among other organizations. She presently serves on the leadership panel for the ABA Section of Litigation Professional Liability Litigation Committee and the Advisory Board for the Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine. Ms. McIntosh graduated from the University of Washington with Distinction in Philosophy and from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where she was Editorin-Chief of Health Matrix: Journal of Law-Medicine. She has an abiding interest in medical ethics from her graduate school days. She enjoys running and traveling, often combining the two.

8 RUSSELL B. MEAD Allen & Mead PLLC 4509 Interlake Ave N. Ste 205 Seattle, WA RUSS MEAD practices non-profit law in Seattle in the law firm of Allen & Mead PLLC. He is a frequent lecturer on the topic of professional responsibility for lawyers who volunteer. He teaches Nonprofit Animal Law, and Animals in Agriculture Law and Policy at Lewis & Clark Law school as a visiting professor. He has been a guest lecturer and CLE presenter at Cornell Law School, University of Washington Law School, Vanderbilt Law School, Vermont Law School, Stanford Law School, Seattle University Law School, King County Bar Association, New York City Bar Association, and the Minnesota State Bar Association. He has been general counsel for two of the Nation s most notable animal nonprofits. Russ holds a BS in Accounting from Arizona State University, an MBA from Lindenwood College, a JD from St. Louis University School of Law, and earned a CPA. Russ authored the textbook Non-profit Animal Law.

9 JUSTICE CHARLES K. WIGGINS Washington State Supreme Court PO Box Temple of Justice Building Olympia, WA JUSTICE WIGGINS was elected to the Supreme Court in He was admitted to the Bar in 1976 and focused primarily on representing hundreds of clients in appeals, both civil and criminal, in the State Supreme Court, the State Court of Appeals, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and once as co-counsel in the United States Supreme Court, in addition to trying cases in several different counties throughout Washington. He practiced with a small Seattle law firm at the time known as Edwards, Sieh, Wiggins & Hathaway. He served as a judge on Division Two of the Washington Court of Appeals, following which he established a small firm on Bainbridge Island handling exclusively appellate cases. He has also served as a pro tem superior court judge in a number of cases in King and Jefferson Counties and as a pro tem district court judge in Kitsap County. The son of a career warrant officer, Justice Wiggins grew up in the Army and earned the Boy Scout Eagle Scout award. With the help of an ROTC scholarship, he attended Princeton University, where he graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He spent the next four years in the Army Military Intelligence Corps, leaving as a Captain. While in the Army, Justice Wiggins was able to attend night school, earning a Masters Degree in Business Administration. The G.I. Bill helped him to attend Duke Law School, where he graduated in Justice Wiggins is a member of the Supreme Court Rules Committee, the Administrative Committee, the Personnel Committee, the Temple of Justice Centennial Committee, the Appellate Education Committee, the Disciplinary Advisory Round Table, the Capitol Furnishings Preservation Committee and the Board for Court Education. While in private practice, Justice Wiggins was active on the Washington State Bar Rules Committee, the Disciplinary Board, and other committees and task forces. He served as president-elect, president, and past president of the Washington Chapter of the American Judicature Society. He worked with a coalition of lawyers, bar associations and government groups to establish the nonpartisan award-winning website votingforjudges.org. The Young Lawyers Section of the Washington State Bar Association gave Justice Wiggins their Professionalism Award in In 2012, he was awarded the Herbert Harley Award by the American Judicature Society for promoting the effective administration of justice. Justice Wiggins has served as an elder of Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church on Bainbridge Island, on the Civil Service Commission of Bainbridge Island, on the Editorial Board of the Kitsap Sun,

10 and on the Board of the Central Puget Sound Campfire Boys and Girls. He has traveled to Tijuana, Mexico, with his church's high school youth group five times to build houses for families and twice to post-katrina New Orleans to work with Habitat for Humanity. In 2001, he partnered with Habitat for Humanity to organize and lead the lawyers of Kitsap County in building a home for a single mother and her children, and again in 2009 to build a home for a second single mother and her children, earning him the 2010 Humanitarian Award from the Kitsap Bar Association. In the early nineties Justice Wiggins traveled to Albania three times to participate in judicial conferences, assisting with that country's transition from communism to democracy. In 2004 he was named Volunteer of the Year by the legal clinic of the Union Gospel Mission in Seattle, where he counseled and represented many residents. Justice Wiggins and his wife, Nancy, live on Bainbridge Island; their daughter Amy and son Sam are both now in their twenties. In their spare time, they enjoy boating in the San Juans, hiking in the Olympics, and in 2008 rode in the Seattle to Portland classic bike ride on their tandem bike. Justice Wiggins also enjoys snowboarding and scuba diving.
