1 ROADMAP to a Bachelor s Degree in Nursing in Partnership with Associate Degree Nursing Program A collaborative pathway exists between Associate Degree Nursing Program and San Diego State University (SDSU) that provide students interested in earning a bachelor s of science degree. The program is designed to provide the education necessary for licensure eligibility and practice as a Registered Nurse (RN). In addition, the program provides opportunities for continuing education beyond licensure to cover concepts in professionalism, advanced assessment, evidence based practice and nursing research, leadership, community health, and the ability to expand their nursing practice. Interested students must first meet all requirements for and complete the Associate Degree RN (ADRN) Program. Upon licensure, students can then progress into the SDSU- Bachelor of Science Degree (BS) Program. Early advising is important to meeting all admission requirements and progressing through both programs in a timely manner. The following ROADMAP outlines what courses are needed for both programs and it is subject to change. Please continue to visit the websites for updated information. 2 Prerequisites 1. Must be completed prior to applying for the nursing program. 2. Must have: A grade of C or better on all required prerequisites. A minimum 2. combined GPA for the science prerequisites. Additional Admission Requirements TEAS Exam: Must pass exam at the predetermined minimum cut score (or higher). The composite score from the first TEAS exam is used in the multiscreening criteria process for selection. Background: Must pass a criminal background check as a requirement of the clinical agencies. Drug Screen: Must pass a drug screen as defined by the Nursing Program as a requirement of the clinical agencies. American Heart BLS/CPR Certification: Must be current. Page 2

3 Registered Nursing Program Specific Courses: 1. All nursing courses must be taken in sequence and must be completed with a C or better with skills and clinical experience courses receiving the equivalent of C or Satisfactory or better to progress to the next level. 2. How do I apply? SDSU-RN-BS Program Admission 1. Must have RN license or will be taking NCLEX and will have license prior to starting clinical courses. Step 1: University Application- Step 2: Nursing Application- Step : Submit official copies of transcripts & supplemental applications to both the University & School of Nursing as outlined on the website & application. General Education: Explorations 9 units of credit (, -unit courses) prior to graduation. RN-BS in Nursing Coursework 27 units of credit. If a student has earned over 70 units in their Associate Degree program they may receive up to1 units of upper division credit based on passing NCLEX. International Student Experience A 2-week minimum passport experience required by of Health & Human Services. See website & general catalog for details.
